I actually looked up the 2015 deal that bought in a huge amount of GWS players.

Carlton traded Lauchie Henderson for Geelong's future first then added 28, 77, 95
Traded all that for pick 8, Lamb, Phillips, Plowman, Sumner.
Traded Tom Bell to Brisbane for 21.
Traded pick 21 and 22 to the Dogs for 11.
Ended up with Harry McKay and Curnow, Cunningham and Silvagni.

At the time it got plenty of laughs but right now that looks like an elite year.

Basically it was:

GAVE: R2, R3, R4, R4 (Brisbane), Bell, Henderson, Menzel, Yarran, Carrazzo, Ellard, Judd, Giles, Holman, Warnock, Watson, Fields, Johnson, Russell, Walsh

GOT: Weitering, McKay, Curnow, Cuningham, Silvagni, Gorringe, Wright, Kerridge, Lamb, Phillips, Plowman, Sumner, Glass-McCasker, Gallucci, Korcheck

Bringing in 15 players is pretty good list rejuvenation, even if most of them didn't make it. Games after they picked them up:

133: Weitering (AA40 x3)
124: Plowman
99: Silvagni
86: McKay (AA, Coleman)
84: Curnow (AA, Coleman)
65: Wright
44: Lamb
42: Kerridge
41: Cuningham
27: Phillips
20: Sumner
4: Gorringe
0: Glass-McCasker, Gallucci, Korcheck

Weitering, McKay, Curnow all top quality, Plowman and Silvagni handy enough, Wright useful for a few years. If you're rebuilding then that's not a terrible outcome.

Goddard - meh. Dunno what he brings TBH.
Banger- Fantastic, feel good story. All reports suggests he's an excellent assistant.
Mission- Would be an amazing get. Has few peers in the S&C field.
Goddard was just telling the world he was an Essendon man more than a Saints man nowdays just two weeks ago. Suddenly it is the return of the prodical son. Must see a quid in it for himself.

Feel a bit uneasy having all this people back at the club TBH. Would be different if they were premiership players from 09 or 10, but they are just runners up. 13 years later I don't know if they can get that lightning in a bottle again. Feels like a bit of a takeover.

Not disputing his authority, questioning his judgement if he turfs out competent people for no good reason to bring in mates.
Especially if he hasn't even met the existing footy department.

IMO it only makes sense if the club review identified them as weak points.
I can't imagine that a review would identify a rookie coach acting as an assistant to the development team as being a weak point.
I can't imagine that an "operations assistant" could be a weak point.

If this is all about Ross thinking he can turn the clock back to 2009, him and us will all be in for a rude awakening.
I think you are jumping at shadows a little.

I doubt everyone gets sacked so he can bring in a heap of mates.

Most likely he has a couple of quality people he wants to bring in with him that may cost someone their job.

We've been crying out for quality experienced assistants for years.

He was saying and has been consistent on this that he feels more of an Essendon person because he knows everyone at the club and didn't know anyone at the Saints anymore. This will obviously change now. He has a lot of bitterness towards the coach and administration at the time of his departure from the Saints (rightfully IMO) but I think still has a lot of love for the club itself.

I wish we were that thick.

I'm just worried our heart is clouding judgement. I can see how Harves gets a gig but Silvagni and Goddard I don't understand at all. In any event the one thing they've all got in common is that they're all ex-Saints.

How many of these potential new additions will be able to actually question Ross. Feels a bit too many yes men?
Walsh can't be the only one if that makes sense.

Depends on Ross' ability to accept new ideas, which is another worry of mine that we won't know about until we play. I think he's definitely eased up a bit in the 11 years between drinks but who knows.

I would expect the assistants to challenge him and have strong input in the gameplan.

This is sensationalist bs. that plays into a narrative the media and others are playing.

Yep we need to improve no doubt.

We need as a club to be confident to improve the right way with strong transperent accountable systems not jumping all over the place. ie keep people like Enright.

Yeah, most pro coaches want their people in. I'd rather bring in the people he rates and not have excuses. The time to experiment has passed. Just get the cheque book out and let him get who he wants in. Lenny gives a bit of an unknown to have a bit gamble on but he gets in the people he rates and trusts to do the rest of it.

Enright might be a great backline coach but the lines had no cohesion. If Ross has to get the transitions going smoothly get who he wants and pay it.
The jury is still out on Enright

The Cats were a much better side after he left. To the eye we looked much more organised in defence but someone did post in here that we were one of the worst sides for scores against per inside 50.

Not sure if that true or not.

I'd like to hang on to him, but if there's a gun back line coach with runs on the board I can see why we'd look at that too

Dixon is one of the dumbest campaigners to ever open their mouth in the football media which is saying something. Can't believe we ever let him into the club.

He talks like he was part of the Hawthorn threepeat, when he was playing the Hawks were essentially us, constantly mediocre and finishing 9th.

Ben is so dumb, that he doesn't realise we got rid of him for his incompetence.

I think it's pretty sad that we look at our footy department and see very little amount of St Kilda people...

As I said earlier, Geelong have done very well keeping their quality football people at the club.

It's not jobs for the boys, it's keeping people at the club that you know you will have passion and will also be very good at their job..

It's doesn't mean every person must have played for the club but I think it's great having some that have.
