I don't hate this if I'm honest. Hopefully they don't have to pay out the entire contract. s**t second half to the season, players frequently not working hard enough and no plan B in poor games. Will be interesting to see who comes in the door.
The payout is only 6 months, new rule that was implemented in 2020 to stop clubs from being bankrupt if they made a mistake...funny that...

Stick a beard on him and it's pretty much me

Shits mindblowing. I've only read a few comments but the feel here is people are upset? I thought the general want was for him to go?

I cannot believe we've done that 6 months after re-signing him, but I actually love the move. I wanted to give the guy a chance but it was more unlikely than likely that he'd turn the ship around, tried coaches have a hard time of success the 2nd time they're in the job.

It seems recent promotions or extensions don't matter for us now, so Lethers and whoever else may still be on notice. Perhaps Gags did nothing this trade period as to not touch the list before he too gets the arse? All just speculation from my end of course.

Honestly shocked but deep down I like it.

Please, for the love of God, let's go after untried now. Yze, Hayes, whoever else is available.
I’d say it’s 80-90% happy about it (having read the thread from the start).

A few complaining about having re-signed him recently and now sacking him but being able to pay out 6 months now mitigates that surely?

I think it shows good leadership by Bassat. I respect leaders who know they are wrong and then don’t stubbornly plough ahead with a poor decision.

Big night for the club but one I predict will be a pivotal moment in our quest for a flag with Bassat at the helm.

Personally, not unhappy he’s gone; seemed a nice bloke, but mediocre coach.

I’m unhappy with when it got done, and what it means financially for an already broke club.
Not as much as it used to, it's probably going to be a 200k payout or thereabouts.

I just woke up to go chisel my perfectly moulded physique at the gym, this is an even more surreal moment than that

Nice of you to join us Muzz, loved your work on SEN earlier.

Also we would know who is coming in if we decided to make a call this late. Already someone lined up for sure.

If so, surely buckley would be the red hot favourite given his ties to walsh.

I personally don't think we have someone lined up, and we will go through a round of interviews.

But if we do already have someone- I'd wager it's bucks.

The last 2 years I was hoping we would do it but didn't think we had the plumbs to do it. Pleasantly surprised we made a tough call. Whoever we get the first priority should be a coach who isn't scared to blood as many young guys as possible.

Nope. We have to stop looking to the past.
You could perhaps say that our 'Bubble' also had a negative impact down the line.

Get fresh views in. But let's be perfectly blunt.
We aren't making finals or getting close next year.
Perhaps even the year after.

We've let 3 other clubs find new coaches.
2 other clubs. Essendon don't count, Brad Scott isn't the best candidate out there

I highly doubt Walsh cares about taking mates with him

I don’t mind the decision to be totally honest. I have a nagging suspicion that our inability to attract young talent is related to the lacklustre perception of our systems and methods by key players in the industry.

I do believe Ratten gave it his best, and I think he improved us marginally from our Richardson years. I’m just no longer convinced he had the wherewithal to get us the last nine yards so to speak.

I’m subscribing to the notion of finding a younger voice with new ideas and fresh energy. There are plenty out there.

Geez, It’s a brave call though from Geoff Walsh (if it is his decision) given that he hasn’t been with us long enough to even draw a paycheque yet, let alone gain a thorough understanding of the challenges facing our club. I hope he has a plan, because change just for the sake of it is not always productive.

What a time to be a St Kilda supporter though. Never a dull moment this year riding the hope to despair to hope to despair roller coaster.

When we get Mackenzie in the draft, and a few training reports on Windhager/Owens and Naz is bulked up it’ll be all rainbows and unicorns again.

Nigel Lappin from the Cats? Trying to think of untried candidates who are currently assistants at the top clubs.

Or we go full left field and bring in Paul Roos to guide us like he did with Melbourne before Goodwin took over

About a month ago there was a rumour akin AFL land about bevo to essendon.

It was told to me by my guy who has given me the good this season.

I even posted it on their board.

Turns out it wasn’t true.

But it would make sense for us…..
Except that Bevos gameplan sucks.

They win lots of ball but waste it.

On a level of seriousness I genuinely don't know where the club is at.

I don't mean sacking Ratts. He seemed like a ripper but like Richo being a good bloke doesn't mean much.

But what the club does from here. Are we really good enough to take on Melbourne Sydney maybe Port etc in the next 5ish years and then we bottom out or do we call a spade a spade and start the rebuild now.

We started the year as a top 4 club 8-3 and then ended it as a bottom 4 team 3-8. So we're smack in the middle of not being able to commit either way.
Too much is made of our 8_3.

First half had much softer draw.

King won a couple with one quarter bursts, which were then shut down by opposition coaches.

There were a lot of people complaining the review was just window dressing and would not bring about substantive change. We have now put a bullet in the:
  • CEO
  • Head of football (demoted)
  • Head Coach
  • Senior assistant
Thats on top of a recent change to our head recruiter. Quite simply the biggest change I can remember in my time following the club. For me this is waaaay more significant than landing a star free agent or top 10 pick. Getting this part right will go a long way to fixing our ladder position
Agreed mate and well said

Bassat ordered the review.

We must assume Bassat acted on the results.

Explain why he must go.

Your overly dramatic reading of every move we make is getting extremely tiresome.

Give it a rest.
Couldn't have said it better myself!
