BIG CHANGES just announced

Gardiner gone

Having a few minutes to digest. Not too happy.
Spike is OK, though I think a minor downgrade on Pyke. As adults the brothers should be able to work together. Implications for Macca?
Cameron as Horse's boss? Not happy at all. One of the great things about Gardiner is that he did his job (well IMO) and kept to his patch. Can Cameron be trusted to do that?
Has the potential to tear the team apart.

I think your trying to find too many negatives , the beauty is that they have both coached an AFL team .

I'm also not thrilled. I also see Spike as a bit of a downgrade on Pyke.

However I think Cameron will be ok in the GM of Footy role - I think he might be better suited to that than to coaching. Also he should provide a strong voice to challenge Horse which is important. While he will nominally be Horse's boss I don't think anyone will under any illusions about who has rank when it comes to coaching decisions - I think provided Cameron stays in his lane (which I'm confident he will) then it can work well.

Can't say as I agree there Chris. Leon has been a part of the team for a while now so I wouldn't have thought he'd have been appointed to the position if there was any signs of tension between he and Longmire.

I'll be very happy if you're correct. I can get a bit glass half empty. Seen it in my work life.

We're kinda being infiltrated by an unsuccessful GWS regime.

Leon Cameron, Mark McVeigh and Amon Buchanan who moved from the Giants after a season in which they finished 16th. Damian Truslove who moved from the Giants VFL side to ours after a season in which they finished 13th.

I know it's not easy to find coaches who want to move and live in NSW, but geez...

and who were widely considered to have massively underdelivered when taking into account the talent on the GWS list.

No matter who replaced Pyke, it would have been a downgrade.
I'm curious as to who will take Cameron's role with the academy. Could it be big Stewie making a comeback to the swannies?

Would love it but Stewie knocked back a club already due to wanting a senior coaching role.

Sadly find it unlikely.

Can't see Cameron behaving like Horse's boss, unless Horse lets him. Few runs on the board v Horse's runs on the board.

Hope you're correct. As far as an outsider can tell Charlie did a good job. Cameron is a surprise to me, not because he's necessarily a dud, but because he's always been a coach until this year.

I think this means Horse will not be around past the next two seasons of his contract. A guy like Cameron has no pull over Horse. Horse who has been around for so long that a coach of lesser experience and less runs on the board would have little or no influence over Horse in a position of management. Unless Horse allows it. That is how I see it. Maybe Horse has said this is the last contract and is allowing Cameron to assume control in partnership with Horse to find a successor to head coach.
Otherwise it does not make much sense for this lightening appointment.

We didn't do too bad

We are in the hunt

I agree. For all those lamenting how we waste our top picks I would say that only Fremantle, Melbourne and (arguably) North Melbourne have better records than us over the same period, plus Port and West Coast both got one success out of one pick each.

There's a paywalled article on HS about the swans verdict of Mills captaincy. I can't read it though.
I'll spare you the trouble as I read it and it's just a word for word copy of Harley's quotes from his presser this afternoon. Spoke highly of Mills character, leadership and quality as a footballer and said that he'll likely feature prominently in the voting process when they do it again at the end of the year.

So in other words, a non-answer.

The presser in question:
