Rampe getting slapped of footy classified last night for running up to the boundary screaming and yelling , pointing etc etc.

Saying know a rule should be bought in that no player outside of the team that day should be allowed on the bench

Huh?

Doesn't mention much. In Summary:
-Buddy retiring
-Could we bring in Martin?
-We're looking at talls in TDK and Himmelberg
-We need midfield strength but maybe this could be for cheap?

surely it's only the more ignorant sections of the vic football media persisting with this martin-to-sydney crud?!
it would be utter insanity to pay any money, let alone big money, for a player whose hunger for the game is surely all but exhausted

They were discussing on Footy Classified that players not selected in the 23 shouldn't be allowed in the interchange section, and they (Eddie) cited Rampe on the weekend.

As usual seemed a case of something being fine and legal until the Swans benefit from it.

Eddie was pretty silent when Scott Pendlebury sat on the bench while he was out injured.

Ok, Punts seemed to be suggesting coaches were not able to sit there either which would be pretty weird.

Reckon there's a growing push for the soft cap either significantly increasing or being abolished anyway which would play into this, but for now having injured players sitting in and assisting makes perfect sense.

Reminiscent of Dermie's postscript with the Swans

Don't see why it is anyone's business who we put on a bench be they current player or not. I presume we notify the afl before a game who is there? but surely we have a number of spots we fill now we see fit.

Jay Clark is probably the most Vic-biased person in footy media, which is saying something.

I remember he interviewed a Swans player (might've been Heeney or Papley from memory) and it was about an 11 minute interview and I counted 9 minutes of it were spent on questions about footy culture in Melbourne, how exciting it was to be at the MCG, what their earliest memory of playing on the G was, how intimidating it is coming up against the big Vic sides.

It was nauseating. I wanted to just give him a job at Tourism Victoria and get him to shut the **** up

That article by Bastiani is a good one and speaks to what I've been saying about our shift towards faster centre breaks and clearances.

It fails to mention two things though. One being that we actually reverted back to a more hardened, stoppage-based side in the second half of last year with all the bulls in there, and it proved successful. And the second being that the strategy to get more speed into the midfield is kind of a dumb one. We rarely actually get the kind of clearances we are structuring for, so while our clearance numbers might actually be okay, the quality of those clearances isn't it. (Not to mention it leads to us inadvertently becoming turnstiles for opposition mids.)
