Mummy is still the first ruck loves throwing his weight around aswel

Well I doubt we would Trade Grundy when we just Drafted Him and Ben Reid for Luke Parker. You must be Dreaming

Out of the 3 I'd take hampson! We won't have to give up as much for him and I think his tap work is better then the other 2! Who would we trade for one of them?

I think the question would more likely be, would Carlton actually deal willingly with Collingwood? Especially Malthouse.

Yeah that would be the main talking point. Considering that them giving us a ruckman would essentially solve our short term ruck problem and thus, perhaps potentially allowing us to properly develop one if not both of Witts and Grundy to quality ruckmen then it would decrease our chances of getting Warnock/Hampson even further.
I would personally prefer Warnock, great tap ruckmen although he does offer very little around the ground.

Isn't maxwell about to sign a contract extension? We might keep him for one more year. His leadership around the younger players may be seen as important.

Jolly could go round one more year if his body holds up.

Hudson will retire.
Didak will retire.
Johnson will retire.
Krakouer looks likely to retire.
Maxwell may suprise and retire.

Lynch has one more year on his contract.
Clarke has one more year on his contract.

Daisy may go.

Sinclair may be delisted.
Gault may be delisted.
Hartley may be delisted.
Yagmoor may be delisted.

Edwards may be drafted.
Moore may be prelisted for the VFL.

If Jolly goes one more year we may not chase a ruckman as Witts and Grundy will both need more AFL gametime and Lynch will still be there as backup. Keeffe can probably pinch hit too if necessary. So that is potentially Jolly, Witts, Lynch, Grundy and Keeffe as ruck stocks for 2014. thats enough I reckon.

Clarke and Russell go round one more year but Oxley, Williams, Ramsay, Seedsman, Frost and Keeffe are coming through as backline players. Reid, Brown, Shaw, Tooves and O'Brien are all still young enough to go round for at least 3 more years. I think they are even all still under contract.

Dida and Krak make way for Faz and Elliot and Kennedy and Mooney and Broomhead and Martin and Dwyer and Edwards, so small forwards don't look like a glaring need.

Cloke and Lynch and Paine all go round again with Grundy and Witts both developing in support, plus whoever out of Brown, Reid and Keeffe is not playing back, plus Moore in the VFL, so I think that KPF is not an area of extreme need either.

Our midfield of Swan, Pendles, Beams, Ball, Rusty, Bliar, J.Thomas, Macaffer, Kennedy, Young seems to run fairly deep too.

Basically this is the first year where I would GENUINELY say "best available". We do not have a glaring weakness structurally, its just that a lot of the youngsters we have in positions may or may not make it, and you can't tell in advance who will make it and who won't, so the best strategy is just to get the best FA's available, pick the best draft picks available, and rookie the best rookies available.

GO PIES.

Good summary. If we do get such a big turnover it could be a real transitional period for the Club and a chance to reinvent ourselves strategically and culturally as many have suggested we need to.

I would love to see us get a couple of reliable beasts to shield the developing youngsters we have in both ruck and midfield til they're ready to shoulder the load. A Magner or a Moloney for the mids and the best available state or VFL ruckman for the caretaker role. Reckon Grundy, wits and our new brigade of mids will need 2 or 3 years to really be AFL ready. Jolly, Hudson and ball are not necessarily young or fit enough to reliably play these roles.

The advantage of plucking guys from the lower tier is we could get a bargain and go best available in the draft, adding even more to the quality and depth of our list. If we try to do a deal with another club for an established A list player the other club will try and screw us to the wall, they always do. The only club that ever gives us Christmas presents are Freo and they seem to have wised up now in their drafting.

Addendum: if there was a situation where a player from another Club could come to us thru free agency, like a Mumford or a Parker or they wanted to come home to Vic and the pressure was on the Club to orchestrate a deal, then we should go hard on it to get the A lister. Otherwise, Clubs like the swans don't dud trade and nearly every club has a f .... Collingwood policy.

Lets be serious Grundy will be a better footballer than Mummy if developed correctly and Reid is head and shoulders above Parker. With the value that Reid has the only way this gets over the line is if Parker is changed to Mitchell or you add something extra on top of good value.

The best option for that state league inside mid is right under our noses and was clearly our best on ground yesterday.

Moloney is more skilled than Magner and has a bigger body. Like Martin he's showed continuos improvement across the past 2 seasons. If his current form remains for the rest of the season he will be our B&F winner at VFL level and probably poll well in the Listin trophy. There's also the added bonus of him already being aware of our structures if drafted.

At the end of the day I'd be more than a little ticked off if we don't rookie list him because for mine he's far more worthy of being on an AFL rookie list than Yagmoor.

Scodog just read the match report and you make a good case for Moloney. I know his form has been consistently good this year and to get 28 touches and 7 clearances in yesterday's mauling was a very impressive showing. How old is he? Will definitely be worth monitoring throughout the year. I'd love to know what some of our draft and rookie specialists on BF think of him and whether you put him ahead of someone like a Magner.

Joey mentioned Jolly, Clarke and Russell still having a year to run on their contracts.

Clarke returned to us in 2012, and I doubt on 3 years, so surely his contract expires this year. Jolly signed for 4, starting in 2010, so unless there was an extension, his contract ends this year (an expensive one too given his powers when we signed him). You have to offer 2 year deals for national drafted players, but I doubt we would have offered 2 to Russell, so his modest contract should be up.

Didak signed in 2011 from memory to the end of this season. Johnson you would think might retire given where Seedsman, Williams and Oxley are at.

Krakouer I'd keep on the payrole year to year, presuming he wants to continue.

In any case, I reckon we could have some money to play with, particularly if anyone leaves or becomes part of a trade.

He's 22 in a months time. At 183cm and 88kg he's got the body to step straight in. I wouldn't say he's skillful, but I'd put him on par with JT with both clearly having Magner covered IMO. I'd gladly take him over Magner for a few reasons first that he's improved as he goes along.

I believe two years ago he was an overage player with the Falcons, but didn't set the world alight. Last year he was Werribee's reserves B&F winner which from memory I read when we recruited him and he looks set to win ours this year due to call ups and injuries. So he's improving as he goes. Next is his skill level, with two similar talents I'd always take the more skillful. Lastly he knows our structures so there'd be no lag in learning our game style. He'd have the opportunity to just throw himself into being a professional footballer plus he already has a bond with a number of our players.

I think the last point carries a bit of weight personally and at the end of the day picking him provides incentives for others to join our VFL program with the possibility of getting on the list. I don't believe we've fostered that enough since going stand alone.

Can't fault your arguments Scodog. 88kg is an ideal playing weight for an inside mid and while he doesn't hav that basketballer height were looking for it has been noted in another thread that Other top sides still only have one lofty mid and I guess we have Pendles. I like the sound of him but I guess we need to see how his form progresses for the rest of this season and if the improvement continues. Not often you take anything away from a 90 point pantsing but I thought the game of Moloney and Broomhead yesterday was encouraging for us.

Upgrading rookies, do people know how many we can and does that mean all our draft picks will be used up? Because at present, Dwyer, Frost, Martin and Oxley Might all be in the frame. I am keen to hear what people think will happen.

Depends on who retires/ gets delisted.

I would say that we would use for first pick on some young talent. Maybe even our second pick.

Didak, Johnno look like retiring. One of jolly or Hudson may also retire. Clarke, Sinclair are two names that come up as being delisted. That's 5 potentials. Who knows what krakouer is thinking? Could be 6. If daisy decides to go. We could have 7 picks in the draft.

Depending on how ox, frosty perform and how keefe returns from injury, they may be on the rookie list for one more year.

Off the main list (38)

Krakouer (ret)
Johnson (ret)
Didak (ret)
Jolly (ret)
Gault
Russell

Rookies Gone
Hudson (ret)
Hartley
Yagmoor

On Main list (40 - 2 seniors outside)
Frost (promoted)
Dwyer (promoted)
Martin (promoted)
Oxley (promoted)

Gault re-rookied
Trade for a ruck (Currie, Mumford etc)

Rookie vacancies - 5 (Richmond, Mooney, Gault retained)

May pre-list Edwards, Haggarty but Im not convinced.

Main list vacancies - 3 (minimum draft selections)

Go for a big bodied inside mid first, outside mid second, whatever is left third.

Gutted we didn't rookie Garlett and have Krakouer be a mentor for him -> had 23 disp and 6 goals for swan districts last weekend -- at least rooking would have given the chance of a hidden gem

Ben Moloney does seem like an interesting proposition. I'm liking what I'm reading here about his recent form. But I don't know all that much about him aside from the fact he's a ball magnet.

What kind of game style does he have? Swan? Ball? How's his tackling, outside game/spread and his pace? Can he work as a forward rotating into the middle?

As for the draft, I would like a big bullocking midfielder who can play up forward. Would give the forward line a target to kick to and help ease the kid into AFL. Dangerfield, Stringer, Martin, etc.

Well Garlett is a Lose Cannon and Showed he did not care about his Future.

Yes he has Talent but It's more than that
