MRP / Trib. Tex vs MRP/Tribunal

The problem is, and this is what frustrates the hell out of me with the AFC, both teams have huge support in Melbourne, especially in the media, so the cases will be discussed over and over with both sides fairly represented, unlike Walker who was hung by the media with the AFC not even offering a whimper.

I don't care what anyone says, the media has a huge influence on the AFL admin especially when it tries to mitigate PR damage.

These incidents will be rationalised and the clubs will fight the charges because they know they have the media backing and the AFL will cave

And one again Adelaide will be left holding the "made example of" tag.

I will be watching the MRP and the resulting tribunal hearing for Wellingham this week

what are the odds he gets offered 4+ but Collingwood fight it and it gets thrown out?

Wellingham is gone, weak act that deserves extra weeks just because he didn't have the balls to have a go at the contest fairly.

Keen to see what happens with the Sidebottom sling tackle in the first quarter where the umpire even gave away a free kick against him. That is a better benchmark for the Walker decision, Carlton player's head clearly was first contact with the ground.

Walker will be our Franklin... our Warnie... our Noel Gallagher.

He'll find a way to make the news every week for his whole career for on-field or off-field exploits.

If he makes the back page and the front page on the same day for separate incidents we'll know he's reached rock star status.

If Wellingham gets anything less than 5 weeks it is certainly confirmation that the MRP are a complete inconsistent waste of space. Tex's tackle whilst reckless was not blatantly intentional, so an extra week to 2 over Walker. Tex's tackle was head high contact but the severity of the head high contact a lot less, so there is 1 more week for Wellingham, so I conclude a 6 week penalty. This is not the same as the Harbrow and Lewis incident from those years ago as both were going for the ball, Wellingham didn't have eyes on the ball and tucked the arm in to go for the bump.

Looked to me like it was reckless, high impact, high contact. That's 7 activation points, level 4 charging offence = 425 points i.e. 1 game more than Tex got (325). Now as to what happens after that, depends on Wellingham's record etc which I don't know about. But say he's been clean for 5 years and pleads guilty, he would get 2 x 25% discounts and get it down to 239.06 points and 2 games.

This is where it's important to understand the system. People would bleat about how Wellingham got less than Walker for a much worse act, when really Wellingham would have got a bigger penalty but his record means he could be suspended for less weeks than Tex.

Pretty sure he was suspended (twice?) last year, so that would give him a bad record.

You may be right, I wouldn't have a clue. The point I was making is that people shouldn't go off their tree if/when they see "Wellingham can accept 2 with a guilty plea" without understanding why first.

Over on the Collingwood board their predicting definite suspension for Wellingham and 4 weeks... So will be interesting again come Monday... He's in for a looong weekend.

Sidebottom sling tackle in the second quarter - umpire paid carlton player free kick for a dangerous tackle -- does this automatically get reviewed by MRP due to free kick being paid?

As soon as this happened i thought Sidebottom could be in some trouble for it.. Wasn't a big brute of a sling type tackle but he did swing a guy over that he had pinned and knock his head into the ground and the afl/mrp hate this right? Let's see what they do........

As wrong as it is..... It will depend on the medical report

Nice to see Morris has made a full recovery.
He is, quite simply, an inspiration to all mankind. This comeback rivals Jason McCartney for sheer heart. It just boggles the mind, all the unthinkable obstacles, both physical and mental, he had to pass in order to get up. We could all learn something from a true Australian hero like Morris.

I think a lot of the credit has to go to the tireless efforts of the club doctors. ;)
