don't you mean a sourness lol
It's changing to 90 and 110. Isn't it?95% is the minimum cap spend and 105% is the max, providing you only spent the minimum for 2 years prior.
We'll struggle to meet 95% next year if we don't chip in on the contracts of Rioli and/or Bolton. If it can gain us an extra or better pick we'd be mad not to.
All salient points - end of Round 1 or Round 2 compo is matter a one or more spots (depends on other compos) so it should be either. End of Round 2 (Band 4) seems harsh, but we don't know what his new deal is other than 4 years.I feel like the media is trying to talk down what deals are appropriate for our players. I don’t know, but I am not liking their narrative around both the Shai Bolton and Rioli trades. They’re contracted players.
The Bolton deal should be pick 10 and 11 at a bare minimum. Fremantle do this almost every trade period so they need to start becoming easier to deal with.
The Rioli deal is pick 6 and something else. Maybe not pick 13 if we’re to be honest (Rioli is not worth more than Bolton), but a second-rounder or third rounder should be fine IMO. Or, we can get pick 6 and pick 13 and give them something else of value in return (like pick 24 or whatever our first second-rounder is + another pick).
The narrative around Baker being a pick in the teens sounds about right. I’d be happy with a deal like that.
Also, the laugh I’ll laugh if we get Band 1 compensation for Jack Graham I doubt it though. Hoping for an end-of-first draft.
This is a good result too. Bring all our picks after 17 in by 1 if Geelong are using it on Bailey rather than Dogs on a kid.Bailey would nominate for the National Draft, not the PSD. And given the strength of the draft... he'll get to Geelong. Dogs can be filthy all they like - and totally justifiable - but its not the Cats fault. It's Bailey's. Bailey has right royally dogged them - he knew he was leaving 12-months ago. Compare Baker scenario... Baker went to WCE and told them he's willing to come only if fairly compensated. Bailey pissed on the floor on the way out.
You don't overpay list players because front-loaded contracts hurt the club in the medium term.
1) You overpay players coming out of contract, pissing off the contracted players
2) You overpay young players, paying for potential rather than performance
3) Front loaded contracts lead to the player getting "homesick" when the back-end pay-cut hits.
If we pay our list appropriately in 2025, we'll have a lot of young talent on low (draft) contracts and a lot of role players happy to be playing and getting paid. As many others have said, we'll struggle to hit 90% of the salary cap in 2025 and (in particular) 2026.
Rather than overpay, get to the 90% minimum threshold by paying Rioli and Shai. Get better draft picks in return. Those salary deals roll off after 2-3 years and we're in a good spot.
early games and the way we played against sydney when we had no injuries suggest we have a cakeBolton should go, he's the icing on a cake. We don't have a cake to start with, so no point having icing.
I don't understand why people listen.Economy gonna come to a halt if you campaigners keep listening to trade radio all day
It's changing to 90 and 110. Isn't it?
We can bring forward Hooper, Taranto and Short money. We can frontload Balta's new deal. We don't have to pay our players to play for other clubs unless they pay us with picks.
It's not a salary dump. It's trading our spare capacity under the salary cap for better draft picks.Don’t need to do any of that what’s the source of us having to salary dump?
Agree louie was our biggest problem, but you're overrating our list and the actual desire to succeed. We gotta move on some of these players because they've already seen success and it's all 'getting to hard' for them to carry the team.early games and the way we played against sydney when we had no injuries suggest we have a cake
you're judging a team that had a million players unavailable during the entire season
louie was our biggest problem
Is he related to our ex coach walls? For all you nervous nellies, Walls said that if they had 3 x 1st round picks then they'd consider moving one into next year.
Get a grip peeps!
It's not a salary dump. It's trading our spare capacity under the salary cap for better draft picks.
The problem is simple. We need to spend 90% of the salary cap in 2025 and 2026. Looking at 2026, how would you do that?
we can have that and keep boltonAgree louie was our biggest problem, but you're overrating our list and the actual desire to succeed. We gotta move on some of these players because they've already seen success and it's all 'getting to hard' for them to carry the team.
Fresh blood & enthusiasm is what we need from a psychological point of view.
Agreed, it's not like the old SEN days where they'd break the news first.I don't understand why people listen.
All trades a reported on twitter before trade radio anyway. Trade radio is just ads and terrible ex players talking crap for money.
Think he's his sonIs he related to our ex coach walls?
I know what you mean, the potential return for Bolton mightn't be great based on how we know he can change a game.we can have that and keep bolton
12 and 18 are a shite return for bolton
Yeah Bolton's a deadset gun. We gotta make sure we get a great trade from Freo if he goes.but not so sure about bolton
Think he's his son
Fremantle have been like this for a while now and people are now seeing them for what they are. Every deal for a good player is a fight with them. Either that or the other team relents and they walk away with an awesome deal. They’re going to build a reputation if this keeps going. This trade period sucks.... Freo want their cake and want to stick their big shiny anchors in it at the same time.
** them and ** dimma too
This is probably the best way to get pick 13 or we can easily pickup Brisbane F1 and possibly offer it and our F3.GC need picks for next year.
If we could get 6 & 13 id offer a F2 with Rioli.
We can always trade back into next years draft
Front end Noah Balta's contract.95% is the minimum cap spend and 105% is the max, providing you only spent the minimum for 2 years prior.
We'll struggle to meet 95% next year if we don't chip in on the contracts of Rioli and/or Bolton. If it can gain us an extra or better pick we'd be mad not to.
That would be gold if true. This is what will happen.
We get to the Graham pick (wherever that falls) and multiple clubs are salivating at a handful of players remaining on the draft board - there’ll be really highly rated players still there.
We will hear the ‘ring a ding’ of the trade bell, and hear “Richmond has traded pick-25 for Freo’s pick-30 and a F2.”
Then it gets to pick-30 and ring-a-ding of the trade bell again “Richmond has traded pick-30 to Carlton for pick-34 and a F2”.
So Jack Graham turns into pick-34 and 2 x F2’s. Which in 2025 we then trade to GC in a point swap for their first pick of 2025 - pick 12.
So Graham turns into pick-12 of the 2025 draft.
This or something similar will happen on draft night - there is too much quality depth for clubs to miss out, and we’d already have taken half a dozen players we love and can afford to slide, but other clubs can’t.
2024 draft gonna be epic. Bookmark it !

Yeah exactly. End of Round 1 or a second Round pick is fine with me. I’m expecting it to be higher than Band 4 at least, but you’re right, we don’t know what his deal is.All salient points - end of Round 1 or Round 2 compo is matter a one or more spots (depends on other compos) so it should be either. Yeah, you're right. Groupie_ is right too.Yeah Bolton's a deadset gun. We gotta make sure we get a great trade from Freo if he goes.
