This will be one of the most corrupt trades if this gets approved. Trading in a player and receiving higher picks has never been done before.

Salary dumps are a usual thing in America, not against it.

That said, GC using their AFL compo pick to dump a salary seems like the club is mis-managed out the ass.

So how else do they get Dawson?
You can't make top end talent chose your club but then not work out a suitable trade to bring that talent in.

Jordan Dawson had a very good season. But I don’t believe Adelaide will give up pick-4 in any capacity to trade for Dawson. Dawson is 25yo start of next season and Adelaide are in full blown rebuild mode so they’ll keep 4 at all costs, surely? I’d say pick-23 and Adelaide’s future second for Sydney’s pick-31. Maybe favouring Adelaide but he OOC isn’t he, so Crows have the edge in trading.

How goods bf, one person says they heard something and 5 odd people blow up like it’s come straight from club itself. I hope Blair and co look on these pages after the trade and draft and just piss themselves laughing

The problem with this is Adelaide have committed to Dawson. Agreed contract. So now they have to pay his due worth. Dawson is entering his prime, was a class act this season and is definitely worth a first round draft pick. Pick 4 is too high, but pick say 13-18 is about right.

How do they get this done? They have Pick 4 & 23. We have Pick 7 & 15. I would say keeping a top ten pick and obtaining Dawson would be in their best interest. Effectively it’s Pick 4 for 7 and Dawson. That’s a win in my eyes.

Of course so there is a few ways to skin a cat.

The Crows have already pretty much turned that deal down

Because when you are sitting at a poker table, a colt 45 beats even a royal flush. We are staring down the barrel of a gun called the pre-season draft.

I haven’t read anything to suggest the Roos are offering pick-39 for CJ and nothing else yet.

It may play out they take a 2022 4th rounder for Tarrant. We then keep Chol compensation - if they refuse to trade for Tarrant we will lose Chol compo…. I know Chol compo is worth more than Tarrant, but it would ‘water down’ the net loss to Richmond so much the Chol compo would come to nothing.

So in effect it’s Tarrant, 38 and 39 for Chol and CJ. Would we have straight swapped Tarrant for Chol this trade period? I’d say yes. So then it’s 38 and 39 for CJ … equivalent in points of pick-20.

IMO it’s not worth haggling over any other details - swapping here there and everywhere to try and scrounge up from 28 to 20 is just not worth the hassle.

I’d also look to trade out a fringe player (Caddy type) for a pick around 60.

Then work on getting the Dog’s 17 plus a 2nd rounder from Pies in 2022 draft.

So it’s Chol for #38 and CJ for #39. (plus Tarrant)

Then it’s 38,39 & 46 for Dogs 17.

And then picks 28 and 60 for Pies 2022 2nd rounder. They badly need points and picks for Daicos and Lipinski.

So we have picks 7, 15, 17, 26 and 41 this draft.

And then the security of the Pies 2nd rounder in next year’s draft, helping shore up our future even more.

For now. As I said more than one way to skin a cat. Also I’m not sure that was the exact deal.

Interesting times.

Dawson is good, but that team really lacks elite young talent. They have a chance to get that with pick 4.

I’m happy to see we are actively looking to trade up, but I just can’t see it’s Adelaide we will do the deal with.

I think we might have more luck with GWS or GCS.

Unless of course they feel they have sufficient talent on their list, but insufficient funds to retain all of the talent. If that is the case then downgrading pick 19 to save maybe $300k may be a sound decision.

adelaide could swap first rounders as in pick 4 for 12 and then throw in pick 23 OR next years second rounder

Seriously, how bad must MacPherson & his contract be to give up a 1st round pick just to dump ONE YEAR of his contract. It expires 2022 - its literally an expiring contract. It's normal in the NBA to have salary dumps, but theirs is often more extreme - ie You get pick 15 if you agree to take some declined spuds $75,000,000 over 3 year contract. But this is a MASSIVE salary dump for a bloke who is a fringe player taken with pick 21 in the rookie draft

To underline how bonkers this is - Gold Coast Suns are going to spend Pick 19 in a strong National Draft - to dump one year of a bloke they drafted with pick 21 IN THE ROOKIE DRAFT.

The suns are literally burning 1st round picks to sack rookie picks.

It will get done for #23 & #42 or #23+2022 3nd rounder with something coming back to the crows
we not involve pick #4 and sydney will just have to lump it. they get enough freebies as it is

not a bad piece of business for Chol. Pick
30 in the rookie draft turned into pick 45 in the rookie draft when he was delisted and two years later he’s nabbed us pick 38 in the national draft and got himself a cracker of a deal at GC

that’s the sign of a list management crew that knows it’s stuff
Will depend on how his career ends
If he turns into the next Corey Ellis we’ll laugh all the way to the bank. If he becomes the next Brad Ottens…

If North are taking salary dumps then throw in Caddy as well.
Take 38 and Tarrant for CJ and Caddy.

We can do more damage with Caddys wages of our books. With Chol, CJ and Caddy gone would that be $1mil+ of our books?

The Chol highlights package on AFL.com is top shelf stuff. Shame he could never string it together for us regularly. Has all the physical tools. Good luck to him.
