I think Rioli is gone this year, no bbq sauce, but we won’t be able to offer him what others will considering Lynch/Dusty’s contracts.
Zero chance.

To secure a longer term contract on better money? He could be in the same state as him still

0% chance. It’s been a dream come true to play together.

Franklin and Lockett achieved nothing in Sydney
When have we had this debate before?
The "Franklin and Lockett achieved nothing in Sydney" line looked very much like the many purposeless debates that have tried to make some point that not winning a flag is somehow the definition of a failed career. If that's not what you were intending, perhaps you needed to be clearer.

Only one issue, the coach has publicly said he won’t stand in his way if he wants to go. Do we think Dusty would play good footy if he really wants to go to Sydney?
I'm not really sure the coach really has the final say on such matters. If a player like Dusty wants out, I doubt Dimma's opinion or wishes will really matter all that much.

So if he made it clear this year he was very keen to play in Sydney you’d hold him to his contract and have him leave as an un-restricted free agent end of 2024… due to his age we’d likely get an end of 2nd round pick as compensation.

All I was said is IF he wanted to leave, and we were not in flag contention in 2023-24 you’d look closely at what was best for Richmond and Martin.
If we were very very lucky. I'd say he'd leave on a free transfer at 33yo, even if he had 5 Norms by then. The AFL's mysteriously f****d up formula and all that.

Nothing on Rioli but considering the contracts; I can see anyone that is signed to decent money/contract length having it back-ended. We know Cotchin and Riewoldt don't have long left so can consider their wages (noting they both took a cut when Martin re-signed), Caddy has left (he signed in early 2020 after three very productive seasons so safe to say he was on a fair wicket) and Tarrant's contract expires next season and I doubt he will go around after that. Edwards is also out of contract.

Short would have taken up a bit of that collective with his new deal.

Rioli, Broad, Baker and Gibcus are probably the immediate concerns. Guys like Lambert, Pickett and Stack are also out of contract that the club wouldn't want to lose (Lambert in the second group only due to recent injuries but will elevate if he continues to stay injury-free). Gibcus is contracted next year but the club won't want to lose him. Pickett I doubt will get much more than he is currently on due to his age. Lambert will be in the same boat.

I don't think anyone will be squeezed out due to salary. Only opportunities may be better elsewhere for guys like Stack and Collier-Dawkins which may get interest from elsewhere.

I think Dimma might have a bit to say on the matter. I am not convinced yet that Dusty wants to go anywhere but if he really wants to leave the club won’t stand in his way.

I don't see Bolton getting a look in here?

All the talk about Dusty! If he wants to go then he will go to Richmond or anyone else will stop him. All this talk we will hold him to his contract is nonsense. He is going end off, with all the blessings from the club.
This thread has finally deteriorated to the point we're suggesting trading for our own players.

Interesting situation with Rioli imo, club didn’t rate him last season and now he’s become one of our key ball users off half back

He says it’ll be hard to leave the club with Maurice Rioli a club great and now MRJ being there

Many clubs would love him in their forwardline for that forward pressure & goal sense so that could appeal more to him than his current role

Don’t think he was enjoying playing as a forward anymore and that was one of the issues affecting his form in the role
Think he’s more than happy playing behind the ball now

Or, be like Blakey and come through the Swans academy.
Blakey's dad played for Fitzroy (dec; RIP) and Norf (LOL). The only issue with Dusty's boys will be deciding who gets #4.

Zero chance.
Less than that.

The club has always rated him, it's some fans that have wavered. Notice how when he was struggling last year he got thrown to half-back in the 2s for a couple of weeks, then Dimma went, "Yeah, he gets it", and back in he came. Dimma wants him in the team, always has. And Daniel has repayed him by going from strength to strength on a weekly basis.

He was burnt out from his forward pressure role and is now thriving down back. The only place he'll conceivably move from half-back is to the midfield. And he ain't leaving Richmond.

It's hard suffering with dementia! Words spelling and anything in between get's harder but I keep trying to prolong it. I meant his going and no one will change his mind.
