Certainly get the attention of other areas in SydneyI 100% agree, plus Dusty is one of the most marketable players in the AFL. Will bring in heaps of cash to GWS. I think this would also factor into the trade.
If we’re throwing up fantasy trades for Dusty, here’s mine:
Sydney give us pick 14 and 18.
We give Dusty and a late second rounder.
Throw in a some later round pick swaps to balance it out as needed.
Gives us cap space and good picks to either hit the draft or trade away for a Tom Green type.
We could go along way to completing list rebuild inside two years with that draft hand
I was thinking that too. But then I thought I believe one reason, and makes sense, he wants to be able to go places and NOT be seen. If a Sydney team or the AFL are thinking of using him as a marketing package, I doubt he would go for it.I 100% agree, plus Dusty is one of the most marketable players in the AFL. Franklin and Lockett achieved nothing in SydneyI was thinking that too. But then I thought I believe one reason, and makes sense, he wants to be able to go places and NOT be seen. If a Sydney team or the AFL are thinking of using him as a marketing package, I doubt he would go for it.

Most likely outcome if Swans bound. If we’re throwing up fantasy trades for Dusty, here’s mine:

dusty is worth more than that. Most likely outcome if Swans bound.
Depends on what we pay towards his contract.dusty is worth more than that.
Turns 32 in May next year so I would of thought that is pretty fair.dusty is worth more than that.
OK, let's turn it around a bit. Dusty is playing for GWS and wants to come to us. Their offer is Dusty and 2 2nd rounders, plus paying half of Dusty's contract, for Bolton and Balta. Would you take it? Because that is the equivalent of the deal that you have up here.Well dude you missed 2 important details we mentioned:
1. We pay a significant chunk of his salary
2. We would be willing to give our two second rounders to GWS as well to pry 2 of their top kids. Eg. Green, Taranto, Hopper
Both the above will be compensated by either picks or players. Does this sound more reasonable to you or are you still gonna freak out and insult your fellow supporters?
Where did this dusty talk actually start? He’s just come back after taking leave and this is the shit they come up with. How about we leave it for now until we hear something solid.
I would do it for Callaghan if we must but Green would be the main targetHas to be Green we target if this goes ahead. He's the only mid on their list I can see being a true match winner. Taranto, Hopper great players but you wouldn't build a midfield around them imo. Green would be our foundation mid for 10 years.
Honestly what are people on? If Hopper was a Richmond player and asked for a trade we would want a 1st and a later pick for him. If Tom Green was a Richmond player and asked for a trade we would be asking for 2 top 10 picks at least. So you think we could get the equivalent of 3 1st round picks of which 2 are top 10 at least for a 30+ year old Dusty? God some Richmond fans are delusional.
Just because you are angry doesn't make you right.Honestly what are people on? If Hopper was a Richmond player and asked for a trade we would want a 1st and a later pick for him. Not sure bout thatI was thinking that too. But then I thought I believe one reason, and makes sense, he wants to be able to go places and NOT be seen. If a Sydney team or the AFL are thinking of using him as a marketing package, I doubt he would go for it.
I love Dusty and think he is the best ever richmond player i have seenMake no mistake the club have been sniffing around Tom Green for years. Anyone with Kayo can watch Michael Green on open Mike where he talks about the Tiger's working on hashing out a deal with GWS for Tom Green up until the last minute before the draft. Add that to Gale getting busted catching up with Michael Green recently, Balmey spluttering on talking tigers last year when Tom Green to Richmond came up. I'm convinced sooner or later he will end up at Punt Rd, hopefully sooner. If not at the end of this year next year he and Riccardi are out of contract I'd hope the club would offer a good trade where Riccardi is the steak knives and solve 2 deficiencies in one go.
Come to think of it, that was exactly my argument for the 'make Dusty cap't' thread!!Not sure bout that
The Dusty of today is a very very different Dusty of 5 years ago
He is doing more media (prior to this year) and also alot of endorsements of products and is well on the way to "Brand Dusty Martin"
Its a Carr influence about increasing his profile and that only gets done with Dusty's approval.
Broadening his profile into sydney is a smart move if thats what the plan is and there has been no word from Carr as to knocking it on the head
Dunkley a big winner there.Doggies knocked back Bumbers first (pick 6) snd a future 2r for Dunkley.
Just don't even know what to say about that.I think ‘letting him go’ and what we’d demand depends a lot on if we believe we are in or out of flag contention. If we think we can launch at a flag again over the next 3-years then you’d make him honour his contract unless a godfather trade offer came along. You hang on to the games greatest ever finals and GF player if you think you’ll be participating at the pointy end. With Bolton and Dusty we’d have the 2 best mid-fwds in the competition so it’s not out of the question for us to be contending any season those 2 are working in tandem and Balta/Gibcus/Grimes/Vlastuin are patrolling the backline.
But if we fall away and are clearly not contending, then we’d be far more open to seeing what’s on the table.
Other teams have faltered terribly by not reading the tea leaves early enough as to the state of their list - eg. Roos keeping Goldstein a few years back, Hawks keeping Mitchell, Gunston and Breust… how handy would a few high draft picks aged 20yo be right now at those clubs? But the horse has bolted and those teams are stuck with the draft picks they get… which are barely better than all other teams.
We have to be careful we are not a cellar dweller in 2024 with Dusty injured / well past his prime thinking “imagine where we’d be if we traded Dusty for a first and second rounder 2-years ago….”
If .. and only if …. he’s keen to get to Sydney I’d hold him for 2023, see how our list refresh is looking and if we are not in contention make it happen for the benefit of all parties. If he’s got no interest in moving clubs I’d never entertain trading him out or ‘seeing what the market has to offer’ as it can ruin a clubs culture.
