Nostradamus predicts Hopper and Taranto come we win 2023 flag. Riewoldt, Cotchin, Tarrant retire on top. Harry McKay chooses Tigers as FA 2023. Media loses their sh1t. We win 2024, 2025, older players like Dusty, Grimes retire. We tank for 1 year load up at draft. Spring back up. Noah Anderson, Tom Green hit FA come to Punt Rd. Before 2030 we win our 20th Flag despite all the rule changes and fact we get even less frees for and more against. The Norm Smith is renamed the Dusty. Richmond now have 200,000 fans and New AFL CEO Benny Gale who rescinded the equalisation measures means the Tigers buy the MCG outright and as landlords bleed all other teams dry for the privilege of playing on our ground. 2050 AFL collapses due to lack of interest as Tigers have now won 40th Flag with a team made up entirely of kids who are half Dustin Martin half leggy Vegas showgirls who are all built like Richo and completely unstoppable. Benny commisions the bloke who made that Brazillian statue of Jesus to do same but with Dusty's head and covered in Tatts, places at Gate 2 forcing all opposition to walk under the 8th wonder of the modern world..... Man I'm bored at work. Hurry up trade week 😂😂

Sounds reasonable and if anything a little conservative

We were a rabble. No doubt.
One of the truly great resurrections of a club ever. Possibly the best?

Not to be a Debbie Downer but for the T&H trade to work as well as some are predicting a lot needs to go right.
Unfortunately I think it’s come about two years too late to give us much leeway for things to go awry as we lose some key player/culture lynchpins over the next year or two and the are already past their prime…
Still, a great move by the club if they can pull it off.
What we need to remember is this, 17 teams don't win a flag every year.

If getting T&H means we make finals more often than not in the next 5 years....it's a win

It’s why the cats are so admirable. They cop shit for not winning them but they always give themselves a chance.

Pretty hard to win a flag from the outside the 8 🤷

I’ll be barracking hard for Brisbane next week but J think the Cats have got it right by surrounding the old legs with kids like
Close
Holmes
Guthrie
DeKoning
Stengle.

Still reckon they’ll stumble at the final hurdle again. Sydney have the leg speed and overall depth to beat them

Mate don’t get me wrong. Seeing the cats fail again would be pretty close to seeing us win again

Eh eh eh

I won’t stand for this sober analysis. Geelong are a bunch of old men led by an ego that surfs in a suit for a photo op.
As far away from a fan as is possible, however will dips me lid to Moe by the sea for fitting their team within the cap. Like the Tiges, they have a few (Porkins, D'Wood others?) that play for market unders.

Georgie P.... That's how it is done.

For an example of a fire sale trade here is the Treloar trade to Bulldogs, it doesn't mention colonwood paying part of his wage as well

GUN MIDFIELDER Adam Treloar has been traded to the Western Bulldogs in a last-minute deal with Collingwood on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs sent pick No.14 and a future second-round selection to the Magpies in exchange for Treloar, also receiving picks No.26, No.33 and No.42 in return.

That trade in isolation means the Dogs got Treloar for a 2nd round pick, but when you look at the whole fire sale then Collingwood traded out Treloar, Phillips, Stephenson, Bosenavulagi AND pick 41 just to get them off the books.

Isn't GWS unloading 4 players?

Yep, looks like they are. Sorry I didn't realise that you were referring to GWS withe the Pies fire sale.

Most pundits have been saying that GWS need to get $1M + off their books, you'd think that clearing those 4 would amount to around $2M then pay the incoming draftees around $500k, so $1.5M saved which might be a bit closer to the actual figure.

We don't yet know what the actual trade cost will be for TT & Hopper, the general consensus is 12-30 for TT and 19-F1 for Hopper which seems about right to me. I guess it would be quite different if it came down to the last day of the trade period and GWS became desperate to offload 1 or more of their players.

Regarding the Hopper trade, who knows what next years salary would have been for him at GWS? He signed a 2year extension last year which would have taken him to FA next year, might have been quite a bit. So I wonder how the last year of his contract is being managed? Do GWS stump up a portion and we reciprocate by giving them around what they want trade wise? Get the trades done with a minimum of fuss and avoid the Treloar/Will Brodie syndrome?

And people think we're going to hand up 12, 19, 30 and next year's first in a fire sale.

Blair will be reasonable in the circumstances, and GWS will have to be too.
Ya never know what goes on behind closed doors, maybe GWS are paying some of Hoppers wage in the 1st year, maybe Kingsley moving has some bearing? Maybe we want to be seen as fair to deal with?

The difference is no-one wanted Treloar so Pies had to do whatever it took to offload him. Plenty of demand for TT and Hopper.

I wouldn’t mind missing Hopper this trade period and getting him next year for nothing (except salary) as a FA. I feel we don’t NEED both in 2023 with Cotch still around for another season and Prestia good for hopefully 15 games. It’s 2014 we will really need both with Cotch retired and who knows how many games from Prestia..?? And Dusty won’t be playing midfield much at all come 2024.
