What we have to remember with Graham leaving is that not only does it (potentially) weaken us a bit, it also strengthens a rival. We can't let either of those things happen lightly especially with a player we do want to keep, and that has 1 year (technically 2) left on his contract.

We either demand a high price or he stays.

if we get a reasonable pick, there'll be the opportunity to land a really good player. Having watched a fair bit, there's depth in every position this draft, can't always say that.
Hope so 👍
I know last year this year’s draft was being talked up for talls. 12 months on a couple of highly touted talls talked up as top 10 contenders have fallen completely of the radar.
I reckon this year will be a big one at the trade table for us. Land a couple of big fish then focus on the draft next year.
If we can snag a decent kid with a latter pick in the draft after a big trade period then hats off to Clarke and his team

Fact of the matter is he is contracted (like Hopper) so they will need to pony up like we will be made to

Pony up going to be the buzz phrase of trade period now isn't it

Friend has SEN on and I couldn't help hearing fireman Kane say Graham was worth a late 2nd round pick if he goes. Later when talking to someone else he says Graham would be a great pick up for Port as he is a great player and would add to their midfield. He needs to remember what he says but I suppose with a brain the size of a bird, that may be asking a lot.

w***er.

Graham was pick 55? If we can upgrade him for a lower first high second, I'll drive him to the airport myself and I love Graham as a player.

That is a huge profit for investment imo.

At 55 we knew he was a Larke medalist, we did not know how composed and clutch he would be and in finals

What pick he was taken is not really relevant 6 years into his career. Right now he's in our best team, who cares where he was drafted? We've drafted plenty of late first/early 2nd duds in the past 10 years.

Hope Taranto & Hopper don't...............

not getting anything better than pick #29 for Graham as hes already 25yrs old and probably has no more than 5 seasons of quality footy left in him
if hes lucky, based on that a club be looking at maximising around 100 games out of him so no way in this world is a first rounder comin back
Franklin afterall provided Hawthorn pick #19
Just some basic lack of knowledge going on in here

First Hawthorn pick for Buddy was free agency so is in no way comparable

Then historically the pick required to get five good years and 100 games is in the pick 11-20 range

Pick range 21-30 averages 85 AFL games so around pick 29 is very unlikely to get too 100 AFL games based on the draft historically

It’s only a profit for investment if the player we select with the pick comes good but yes a late first very early second is probably acceptable

Anyone who uses the "best 22" argument instantly proves they don't know WTF they're talking about.

A teams best 22 changes as the season goes on and that's without taking injuries and suspensions week to week.

It takes approx 30 players to be a successful team which challenges for a flag.

A players trade value isn't determined based on a stupid "best 22" argument.

I don’t know, if it’s a player that would play pretty much every week in the AFL I think it’s right to expect a return that would match that

maybe let the media know that. They keep bringing up hopper and tarantos draft positions to justify us handing over too 1st rounders. IMO GRaham is worth the same as hopper. What has hopper achieved that graham hasn't? Plus hes basically contracted for an extra year

What a shame trade value wasn’t based on draft position when we got rid of Bling , Jon and Conca .

I agree with you, my point is that it's not only 22 players who are the clubs "best 22". The AFL is a long brutal season and many players are in our best "22".

This media narrative where you pick exactly 22 players shows how dumb the average punter is - including many MANY ex players.

Our players probably get marked down in the media because we are such a process driven team. Playing your role comes before racking up stats. That’s exactly what Graham has done for many years now.
Had he played in another team eg Bumbers for example he’d be probably be playing as an attacking mid racking up good numbers . But that’s not the Richmond way
