IF the club is contemplating making a play for McAsey, and that's a big IF, I'm all for it.
I've never seen the kid play, but based on him being a KPP and in the event that Jack or Big Sexy go down with injury we need more options other than Samson Ryan and Jacob Bauer.

I dont suspect he will cost anything substantial.
Not much downside to the move if im being honest.
I know some have said he is a spud, but I'd back in our program to get the best out of him.
McAsey is interesting, was a high pick and an AA defender at junior level in his draft year, but we need a KPF at the other end, not so much desperate for tall defenders. Balta, Gibcus and Miller ontop of the existing Grimes, Tarrant and Broad is a very good hand of KPFs now and in the future.

It's a lot rarer for KPDs to suddenly become good KPFs than it is the other way which is relatively common.

Great result
We would’ve got a decent pick if he chose to leave regardless.
But waiting for free agency is best for he and the club

Will get 2 more cracks at a flag and then get a chance to take over a bigger role when Cotch/Dion finish up

If he chooses to leave then we’ll get a better pick then we would’ve got this year more likely then not

I think the Lambert role was something only Lambert could play. We need to go back to 2017 and build a game style suited to the cattle we have. Geelong did it pre season last year and won a premiership. Catering new players to roles that former players played won’t work.

We’re building a new team and need to move on from former stars in Houli/Lambert/Rance/Edwards/Ellis/Grigg/Astbury/Caddy who all were integral to our success and premierships. The guys who are playing in those positions now cannot replicate what those other players did, so we need to build a brand that suits what we have now!

Think far too much is read into the Lambert role on here. He was a glue guy and can’t be replaced, Graham is a different player and has his own strengths. It’s a tough role
if it suits the game plan i think lambert and graham could be clones...both running machines and dynamite when they get involved in our chains and link up play, both not strong overhead or able to kick over 50 but deadly over 35-40m either passing or kicking for goal. tackle hard and will sacrifice a possession to make dusty or bolton get a clear passage. wont be walk up start anymore but if injury free, he's in our top 25 mix and we lose nothing when he plays. also lets us manage dion, cotch and grimes with less stress.

Tarantos a good player, no issues with that chase.

Hopper is the one I'm not 100% sure we needed to chase as well on that long of a deal. Feel he might be slightly overrated for the cost.
Well, we don't know what the cost will be yet to be fair.
Mitch Cleary tweeted yesterday that Graham was firming as a chance to be at Port Adelaide for a second round pick. 12 or so hours later, Graham is no longer seeking a trade to Port Adelaide.

Circumstances change, and even though a few weeks back it was reported that GWS were trying to talk big by requesting two first round picks for each of Taranto and Hopper.
Based on their cap situation and the recent scuttle butt in the media, don't be shocked if both get done for one first round pick each and some later pick swaps.

Yeah, im not going to pretend to know what McAsey's ability is to play at either end of the ground.
I've got the suspicion though that Gibcus may be spending a fair bit of time this pre-season in the forwards group.

Fair point. Hopefully we can do some slick negotiating especially if they are pushed by the cap!

In the very limited time Gibcus went forward he looked to have some potential there, but it was just a tiny glimpse. Will be interesting to track and would solve a massive hole if we could grow him into a forward because he's got a lot of attributes and he's so young. There's a 250 game player there.

I would be extremely surprised if that was the deal

I can see us giving up all our picks #12+#19+#30+F1 with some picks #40+ coming back that is worthless in a draft where only 50-55 players likely drafted
Only way we get to keep either of #19 or #30 is if we include a player GWS might be interested in getting that we are happy to release

We should be looking to off load Soldo , Castagna , Aarts , RCD with the first 2 players releasing around $700k

Not that we have any say whatsoever, but out of curiosity, would people be keen to see Dan Rioli move back to the forward line and push up on to a wing occasionally (or even the odd stint at centre bounces) ?
I wouldn’t be in favour of that unless he demonstrated the tank to play wing, but I couldn’t understand why he wasn’t thrown into the middle on Neale in that fateful final. We put a couple of guys in there who just stood near him.

Dan’s history as a pressure forward would have served him well in that situation. His speed and quick reactions, in my opinion, made him our best option but we just let Neale keep killing us.

With Graham now staying (and 100% confident he will now), and both Taranto and Hopper both are recruited, the depth of the mids obviously will be next level.
Cotch can be managed for finals, Dusty more forward, Sonsie gets another year as a high HFF with mid time.
Certain VFL regulars may be nervously waiting for the call into Dimmer's office.

The only reason we’d be looking at a player like Mcasey is if the club was concerned Noah Balta will look elsewhere at the end of next year.
I mean, that is not remotely true in any universe and the quintessential 1+1=3.

A more rationale assumption would be that Grimes and Tarrant are entering the end of their careers and/or have injury concerns.

I don't reckon we did want to keep Ellis.

Pickett and McIntosh were better

Dud stay away.
We wanted to keep Ellis, but weren't going to pay him what Gold Coast were offering, hence Brandon taking the deal that set him up for life and cashed in on his value when it was at it's highest.

McAsey would probably come in to play KPD which would then allow us to move either Miller or Balta up the ground to play forward/second ruck or send Gibcus up the ground as a more mobile marking option, which would then allow Lynch to remain deeper.

That being said I'm not keen on bringing him in. Would prefer to see what the kids we've got have to deliver

“Not remotely true in any universe”.

Interesting 🤔 which part would not be from this universe?

The phrases they use on the crows board are uncompetitive and physically weak. Sounds like a modern James Sellar, or Jayden Post, Ben Griffiths etc.

No good traits obviously. I am sure there have been cases of kpp’s who at least vaguely fit that description in their first few seasons who go on to be strong performers, our own Ben Miller looks to be trending in that type of direction. But the uncompetitive part doesn’t usually mend itself, you either have it within you to fight for the ball or you don’t.

In that play, Fogarty should be in the same offer. But no. I’d rather JGTI stays.

If Fogarty was involved in the offer, I'd order a limo and send it to Jack Graham's place, inside will have a first class, one way ticket to Adelaide. When he lands in Adelaide, id have a motorcade ready to escort him to the Adelaide football club. In the transport vehicle there will be a trained masseuse along with a smattering of fine foods so that Jack can have the utmost comfort on his travels.

Have liked the look of Gibcus, when he's gone down forward at times this year, won't hurt to see where that leads. Didn't he play forward in juniors?

I am suffering "Magic" fatigue even though I have "Magic" on ignore...

What panacea is available to fight off this debilitating affliction?
Take off the ignore, respond by agreeing with everything he says, tell him he is a genius and should be the list manager as he is so insightful. He'll quickly get bored and stop.

Although he does remind me of Pauline Hanson. Says a lot of really good stuff but then says something so dumb that it is the only thing that you can remember and can't get it out of your head.

Swing, like most juniors. The coaches are pretty good at trying to give recruiters a lot of different looks.

Pure mids they try to push forward, so some of the forwards can show their midfield potential, backs and fwds play both ends etc.

Probably a little different to the SA teams who are always trying to win.
