GWS probably need #12 + #19 to do other deals and the Hopper deal will be later as they would want to keep F1 and not have it exposed to trading with other deals but can if it suits them.

There is a very good chance the Hopper deal has also been agreed on rough value and would look something like F1+#30 or F1+Soldo
just a guess

We wouldn’t do the tranto trade unless there was an understanding that it would partially off set the Hopper deal.

Not sure how much Adelaide benefitted getting picks 11 and 30 and Dean Gore (never played an AFL game) for Dangerfield or how much Carlton benefitted from getting an 8 pick upgrade and Billie Smedths for Zac Touhy. West Coast spent picks 14, 24, 33 and a future first for Tim Kelly. Geelong gave up picks 15,18,25 for Cameron and picks 32 and 35.

Not sure exactly what your point is here. But none of these trades were considered bad at the time.

And it kind of proves the point that draft picks are fools gold. Yeah maybe you nail the picks but it’s just easier to get know established talent.

So let’s just pay all our picks and get Hopper and Taranto done.

GWS get the chance to pick two 18 year old kids, and the chances they get one player as good as Tim Taranto are slim.

We get Tim freakin Taranto! We get the best player in the trade, we’ve already won unless one of those picks becomes Cotchin/Jack level player (we know that’s unlikely). No need to completely destroy GWS in the trade.

Don't we have them over a barrel though? They either get rid of the players or they blow the cap? Would've thought we'd be paying minimum fair compensation not bending over backwards. I want both players big time so I'm not really that concerned but we always seem to have to play the white knights.

Doubt they’re over a barrel. Seem happy to keep them, and I’m sure there are other suitors if we can’t do the deal.

Also helps when a club is run professionally without ego-maniacs like Dodoro and Bell.

We walk away with 2 genuine gun midfielders who are ready to go.

We hit the draft hard last season as this is was all part of the plan. Elite list management.

The point is clubs are getting fleeced by them. Take Dangerfield for example, in that same year they traded a future first to Carlton for Lachie Henderson. Had they had their time over again Adelaide aren't taking any calls without two picks being on the table.

Maybe by the average fan they weren't considered bad but me much like yourself doesn't value draft picks* (outside the top 10 at the very least) over middle aged established players and to get two guns in Dangerfield and Cameron for late first round picks is absurd. Their easy to deal as they keep getting good deals. They weren't so easy to deal with in 2018 when Kelly requested a trade home and they knocked back all offers.

*unless rebuilding.

Im not overly fussed if we do cough up all our picks for Hopper and Taranto but GWS also have Hill and Braun leaving. They are in the same position as us last year where we had too many picks, not enough list spots and those picks lose value. So somewhere we need to be getting at least one if not two decent second rounders (top 40) back.

Was excellent in Freo’s two finals this year. Only bloke that didn’t choke the first half against the Buldogs. If he plays at that level for Carlton he’s a bargain but it’s a big concern that his output lifted dramatically the closer he got to the end of his contract.

Harmsey is a much loved player at Melbourne
Very heart and soul
Very tight with Gawn
His junior club was 5 minutes away from where Melbourne train at Casey Fields
Can’t see it happening.

But if it does he’s the man to put on Neale in that elimination final and actually make a difference. I’d welcome him with open arms
