Logic is not always a great thing on bigfooty

A best 22 player thats a free agent is apparently a bad idea because we dont want to over pay by $100k a year
There is a very smart saying in the stock market - You never go broke taking profits

HH is taking a profit for no cost , salary cap can always be sorted at later stages
To me i see it alot more simply in 2024 We need a player that can play foward and HH fits that role

So what if you pay him $750k or $650k ?
Really the cap will increase 20%-25% in the next 3 years when we have atleast 10 senior players that will be long gone

* In saying that i highly doubt he will come to Richmond now with no known coach and other clubs seem to be better positioned
Still a fair chance to come to us I reckon. When you look at the way Hardwick left compared to Dew it shows how well run our club is. Taranto and Hopper would be telling him the same and we'd have been putting in the groundwork to HH for 12+ months already.

So when I've seen him dominate at VFL level as an inside mid I must have been dreaming. No doubt the coaches see him more but I have never seen him given the role for an extended period at a senior level. He is still young too. I can see him taking Cotchin's role if he wants it badly enough. He seems to have leadership qualities as well.
Dow also dominates the inside mid role at vfl level, as did Aartts last year and Miles before him I also think you are making the mistake of confusing the roles of being a general/outside mid and being an inside mid

Even Cotch’s role as an inside mid this season has been dependent on Prestia and Hopper being injured and only had that enabled him to get time in the role again

Not saying Ross won’t ever transition to the inside but we can also only go off the evidence we have seen and so far he has never played a game at afl level that shows he can play the role of an inside mid despite him still managing midfield mins

His benchmark midfield game is still last year round 23 and although he played as a mid it wasn’t as an inside mid

He had 3 contested possies, 1 clearance and zero tackles

Who knows

With Dimma as coach i think the stability would have played a big part and playing under a successful coach with your mates would have been a drawcard
Now its looking like a newbie coach and a good offer from Giants on the table with Hawks and others having even bigger contracts and starting to show signs. Just feel his focus now would be to either stay or go to the biggest $$$

Kane Farrell as an athletic outside mid to compliment Bolton, Hopper and Taranto? Booming left foot kick too.

Again, you are going on one game! I think we can both say we have no idea what he'd be like as an AFL inside mid if given a decent run at it because until he does, we won't know.

I'm all for going after free agents when you don't have a first round pick.

I'd be supportive of HH and Gresham.

We're losing lots of senior depth with Jack, Cotch, Tarrant, Castagna all out the door. Prestia and Dusy both in their 30's with the former very injury prone.

No the Gresham for me. We have enough shit kicks in the side as it is.

Big Footy posters.

I was watching a bit of Moneyball recently. I know Baseball is a different sport and different dynamic. Relationships are less important and it was interesting watching Pitt talk to his stats guy about how he wanted to keep his distance from the players to a degree so he could cut them extra and possibly be a little bit more independent. Later he seemed to do a interesting play cutting players when they seemed cheerful after losing a game, supposedly to trigger a cultural firestarter. It was supposedly a biography

Do some think our talent management is too relationship based and this has caused us problems regarding list management? Look at teams like the Pies turfing Grundy, Treloar etc.., I am not endorsing that approach but that would be considered polar opposite of relationship based/influenced list management.

From this does RFC have a structural problem within our footy department creating biases that leads to us being less competitive with our peers over the journey off-field affecting us on-field over time?

baseball seems to be a dynamic where bridges seem less important to the point they openly burn them by the looks of it. I look at Patty Mills that seem to be traded 3 or times in the space of 10 days or so in the NBA recently

Gresh would be our best small forward and could pinch in the middle, probably cost too much

Moneyball works better in baseball because it's a non-contact sport so getting players with histories of injuries isn't quite as risky.

I was not focussed on the injury aspect.

To me RFC is too focussed on trading versus the draft?

The pros and cons are still yet to be decided.

However, is there a bias within/behind this approach? Are some more dependent on trades versus the draft.

One would think apart from the list versus other lists and where our premierships are at their should be no bias between draft and trades so we can get the best talent always over the journey in the best way

Dodoro is Essendon's list manager and they seem more focused on the draft even though they also do trades. He is known for being difficult but he also to me is relentless trying to extract value for Essendon which I think has helped them knowing not everything goes right

Reckon Dusty, contract dollars and our picks 43, 61 and 79 will follow Hardwick to GC for their pick 6 and 24.
12 months ago they salary dumped they’re not picking up Dusty’s 1.3. Why would he want to split it over multiple years he is guaranteed that money next year. He can then go year by year signing 500k contracts

we would make it like burglars if that happened however they are desperate for draft points capital and this aint it.
