If it is actually true as Tom Brown reported it...

If Melbourne went to Collingwood and said we would like to trade him on and if you allow us to do so we will reduce your burden from $300k to $200k per season. Why would Collingwood say no?
Because what Collingwood would be contributing wouldn’t be making or breaking the deal & Collingwood would know that

If Melbourne want him off the books the decision is already made and even Melbourne they picked up Collingwood’s share they would be paying less than keeping him on the list over the term on the contract

Collingwood have zero incentive to help Melbourne out of the bind

That is not correct. I gave you a clear example of an incentive Collingwood would have to "help Melbourne out of the bind."

Grundy is getting paid his full contract regardless. So if Collingwood strangely didn't agree to Melbourne trading him to relieve some of their own burden, and a new club was only willing to pay him what he is likely worth, say $650k, then Melbourne would be paying him $300k to play elsewhere.

But I would have thought Collingwood would be pretty likely to agree if they could save $400k over the course of the contract just to pluck a figure, it could literally be the difference between them losing or retaining one of their first 22 players. It may have been part of the reason the Pies agreed to pay such a healthy amount of Grundy's contract, because they were willing to bet Melbourne might end up in this position having to offer them relief.

In any event, Gawn is more than 2 years older than grundy, so Melbourne may be keen to retain him.

i would be chasing brodie grundy and bailey sniff grundy would come cheap as collingwood and melb paying the wage and a big upgrade on nank who i reckon is just about battered while smith would solve our wing problem and would be a huge upgrade on either kmac or pickett
Collingwood wouldn't be paying a cent for Grundy if he went to a third club. Their deal is with Melbourne, and Melbourne only - they would absolutely cream themselves at ridding that financial millstone from around their putrid necks.

For this reason alone, I wouldn't go near Grundy. Let alone he's not who we need to be spending any of our cap on.

But why would Collingwood agree?
Yes they could but they would have zero incentive and obligation to do so

The burden of the contract is now on Melbourne, trading Grundy to another club would shift that burden onto a new club and Melbourne would probably need to take on some of the contract to make the trade happen

But that agreement between Collingwood and Melbourne would become void and why would Collingwood agree to continue the pay if they aren’t obligated
Surely....
Grundy's 900k has to be paid. Melb taking on a chunk of his salary but the original contract 900k has to be paid.

Currently Melb 400k + Coll 500 =900k. Clauses written into the new employment contract with Melb. that the Pies chunk has to be paid.

If a 3rd club get involved and want to pay him 300 k Player Grundy's salary is Pies contract of 500k and Dees contract of 100k = 900k.

If a player is allowed to be paid by multiple clubs then why not 3 or 4.

Grundy currently at Melb so he's their employee. Pies have agreed to the deal with Melbourne so they wouldn't have any negotiating power in 3rd club movement

Unless the Pies need the salary cap cleared more than Melb. and the 3rd club' 300K wage comes out of the Pies 500k (reducing 500k to 200k) and Dees continue to pay 400k

Not quite sure what Melbourne was thinking. But it i going very well from my perspective.
Yeah, mine too. Any time an opposition club plays a gun player out position, I'm a happy Tigers man, lol.

Gibcus will be our future key forward.

2 years alongside Lynch learning the craft then the forward lines yours Josh!
I just don’t know if he’s going to have the presence of a key forward. But it’s definitely going to be worth a try

He has the height for it. Leave him down the forward line for a few weeks, Believe he would get results once he comes back.

Has the athletic profile for sure. 3-4 kgs on him. Would hate for him to get too big and lose any of that Leap.

Worth a crack and I’m all for it.

Interesting that Twomey (who is normally pretty reliable) is saying Ben McKay definitely won't be at North next year. From memory, Tiger71 said last year that we were interested. I wonder if that's still the case now that Tylar Young has had a pretty solid debut year?

He'll be at Essendon by all reports.

I hope we look at targeting one or two younger guys that arent getting games at their current club, we need to change the age profile of our list quickly and adding a couple of young guys who could be best 22 would help.

Finn McCrae
Tom Sparrow
Rhylee West

Would be the guys I'd be getting into.

Sparrow is contracted and best 22 at the Dees, he won't be leaving. James Jordan would be decent depth and is an unrestricted free agent. West has been fairly uninspiring for his whole career. We desperately need midfield depth.

West.EEkk.
No thanks

Bulldogs have another key forward father-son potentially going within the first round. They got JUH from the NGA, Sam Darcy as father-son, and now Jordan Croft. That’s potentially their KPF stock sorted for the next generation.

Is Charlie Naish looking good or nah? Doesn’t look like he’s even near the first round in Twomey’s July Phantom Draft.
When you add Naughton to that list it just screams salary cap problems and competition for spots. I wonder if we could help them out by taking JUH off their hands

I’ve heard it referenced in the media a few times as throw away comments. It seems like it’s a not so secret, secret.

Sparrow has pretty much played every game this season.... But I get what you're saying.

West is being played out of position, hes not a small forward but he wont get a game in his preferred role until Libba retires or gets injured.

Sparrow is best 22 but wont be getting paid what he's worth, could turn his head with a good offer and more genuine midfield minutes IMO.
