Hello Tiger fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

tugga you may like to sticky or merge this post, move it to the start of the thread (so the sticky post doesn't rotate if a post is deleted before it), or copy it to your draft thread.

Gruff and Houli were trades, Dusty and Cotchin were no brainers. Rance and Reiwoldt were his two best picks for mine.

To be fair Dusty and Cotch were no-brainers that were passed up by other clubs. We could easily have got them wrong too.

lol not sure of your point , it’s pretty emphatic that he built a premiership dynasty , plucking some random player from the boon docks is laughable if that’s all you got
Frank, Craig Cameron and Blair built our Premiership list.

Frank had some howlers though. His first round picks hit rate was below average

1. JON over Hurn, Higgins and Jones
2. Conca over Heppell, Prestia, Lynch, Caddy
3. Lennon over Cripps
4. Corey Ellis over anyone else
5. Griffiths over Fyfe

All of those pale into complete insignificance compared to the premiership dynasty he created , be like Murdoch complaining he lost some shrapnel down the crack in the rental car over the long weekend ,,,embarrassing really

He had that many cast as at the board it was ridiculous.

Even our premiership sides were a little short on talent. We were lucky free agency allowed us to fix our drafting holes and our gameplan and was ahead of its time.

Also Dusty carried our arses in the finals.

Didn't we win our first flag without any free agent?

The only free agent we secured of any value to our flags was Lynch. But along the way we lost White, B Ellis, Conca and Chol to free agency.

The thing the club did well with its recruiting was getting guys with excellent character. So generally where the guy became a good enough player, there wasn't ever much question about the team first intent. That was outstanding in our dynasty years and it is the very thing that made our game plan work so well. The recruiters, and in particular experienced school teacher Jackson must surely take a lot of credit for that.

Had a few hits too.

1. Jack Riewoldt taken 1 pick before James Sellar.
2. Shane Edwards taken 1 pick before Brad Howard.
3. Trent Cotchin taken 1 pick before Chris Mastern.
4. Alex Rance taken at 18 in between 2 very successful players, Harold Taylor and Callan Ward. I'm still taking Rance!
5. Dustin Martin 1 pick before Anthony Morabito.
6. David Astbury taken 1 pick before Joel Houghton.
7. Dylan Grimes 1 genuine pick before Adam Neates in the PSD
8. Bachar Houli 1 pick before decent player Michal Hibberd in the PSD, I am still taking Houli!
9. B Ellis 1 pick before Tommy Sheridan
10. Nick Vlastuin when the next available player taken was Troy Menzel(Carlton)
11. Kamdyn McIntosh when the next pick was Michael Close
12. Dan Butler 1 pick before Josh Deluca
13. Jayden Short rookie pick 1 before Ethan Hughes
14. Jason Castagna 1 pick before Kurt Aylett
15. Kane Lambert rookied the pick before Jake Long
16. Soldo when the next untried player taken was Matthew Hammelmann
17. Dan Rioli in between Hipwood and Himmelberg. We'd take Rioli.
18. Nathan Broad 1 pick before Michael Hartley
19. Shai Bolton 1 pick before Sam McLarty
20. Jack Graham 1 pick before Lachlan Tiziani
21. Noah Balta 1 pick before Liam Ryan(good player, but we still take Balta.)
22. Liam Baker 1 pick before Nick Holman
23. Marlion Pickett in the MSD 1 pick before John "No flags" Noble.

Those are the 23 flag players we drafted. Unsure if I missed any. But just imagine the AFL said oh no, we got the draft order wrong, Richmond you will have to give up all the players you drafted and as compensation, take the next player drafted instead.

How would Dimma have gone trying to mould those players into a 3 flag outfit?

Spot on MR, great post as always.

And of course in that scenario you mentioned that we instead are forced to take the next draft pick, I suspect most of the blokes we actually took would've still been available. i.e. they were astute enough selections that other clubs would've missed them (exception being Cotch, and possibly JackR of course)

Richard Tambling 1 pick before that big goofy fellow that played for Hawks / Swans

Ok i'll see myself out

wasn't that during the Wallace period. He, like a lot of coached before and since believed that a team full of midfielders was the way to climb the ladder. Maybe it wasn't all the recruiters fault that we picked Tambling over Buddy.

The solarium spindoctor was showing a power point presentation highlight reel on Tambling
He was jizzing himself, thinking he was a superstar, Hawks built their list with Bud
And Roughy while we went nowhere with Tambling, Deledio

We were always taking Roughead at pick 4 but Hawks grabbed him knowing that! They gambled we wouldn’t take Franklin, and gambled correctly.
Irrelevant discussion really as it would have totally changed our list and drafting history, and we may not have won the 3 flags had we not subsequently selected the players we did.

I remember that klutz...could not kick a footy without wheeling right out to his left...and was a bit loose with it's tackling as well...

Ok I'll walk out wit ya!

Tambling was a potential super star. Had all the tools. Just never quite stepped it up. Pity.

Lids was a super star, but we ended doing very well out of trading him away.

A draft that if we had picked Buddy we'd probably have seen him go down as talented never was. We're a very different club to back then.

Oh yea and if it weren’t for that one time at band camp , gtfo , our premiership sides were littered with rookie list players , your case is that lame it ain’t worth giving it oxygen ,pls don’t replay , I’d have a more sensible conversation with a coll supporter

Totally agree. But I reckon Buddy might've been just good enough at Tigerland to prevent us from going so bad through 2008/09 that we'd have missed out on Cotch and Dusty, and the Rance priority pick.

And more than Likely not have gone for Jack seeing we had Buddy and Richo.
