Re: Matthew Spangher

look, it all depend what we give in exchange for him. I think in this years draft it is important to keep the first and second round picks, purely because of the shallowness of the draft. We also wont get many more picks next year because of gold coast.
I think for david ellards development it is probably best for i to go back home to west coast.
Chris a johnson i would be more than happy to send him back west. (where he came from)
and chuck in a 3rd round pick.

I have seen a little of him, he looks ok, still needs to develop, but a with a couple pre seasons i can see him becoming a pretty good backman. This would also let wait go forward which is where i think he belongs.

a good assessment of the situation anything to get rid of johnson who was total waste of time & effort!

Re: Matthew Spangher

When fully fit we have Jameison, Waite, Thornton, Bower and Austin who can all play either CHB or FB so why go and trade for someone who is no better than any of the above.

Re: Matthew Spangher

Spangher is ok one on one, he can get lost when a forward is on the lead. He is a great rebounder and doesnt hesitate to run forward of the play, he can also leave his man and help out defenders well. He has a great build and is a good size with a tank and a work ethic, right now he is a tall athletic type who is great with the ball in hand but needs to work on his defensive football smarts, as in positioning, spoiling a lead, etc..

Up untill the end of this year I had thought he was athletic but didnt have a brain, I wouldnt of hesitated trading him. His last few games have confused the hell out of me though and given me enough promise to want him on the list for another year, before those games he had shown little.

Is only very early 20's with under 20 games to his name in his 4th season. Could be a late bloomer... right now I think he might be better as an attacking wingman and mabye Worsfold is playing him in the backline to help him learn the game more.

Taking a leaf out of the great man Denis Pagan's book on how to develop young players...

We have a couple of talk athletic types in Bower and Aussie who will be good at rebounding... We also have Waite who is an excellent rebounder who runs off his opponant and kicks goals while they are farting about behind him.

I feel that the only reason we would get Spangher in is for depth. If he is a good enough player he might be able to force his way into the first 22. If he isnt then he would just be bashing around for the ants.

Daniel Stewart

Daniel Stewart

mf3857.jpg

Height: 200 cm
Weight: 92 kilos
Birthdate: 10/10/1988

Stewart played 14 games for Eastern in the TAC Cup in 2006 but was overlooked in that year's draft so he spent the 2007 season playing in the AFLQ. Last season he moved to the SANFL and played with North Adelaide showing some positive signs both up forward and in the ruck. Stewart is a powerful unit who is a great contested mark and agile despite his size.

Kicked a few bags in the SANFL in the last few weeks, Took the ruck duties on because of an injury to the usual ruckman and really impressed.
Im pretty keen on this kid because there is nothing but upside from what I can see athletic, big etc what else could you want? Its no secret we need another forward but imagine having Daniel Stewart & Matthew Kruezer in the same team, both 200 cm, both can play ruck, both can play forward.

Stewarts only a rookie and he is actually originally from Melbourne just moved so he could improve his chances of getting drafted so I think our chances wouldnt be to bad plus we could work out some sort of package deal from all the rumours I have heard from the Powers trade table.

Shaun Hampson for Daniel Stewart+3rd Rounder ?

or

Shaun Hampson , Adam Hartlett & Jordan Russell for Daniel Stewart, Travis Boak & 3rd rounder?

Wouldnt mind hearing what Port supporters would want for Stewart.

Baffling post to be honest.

To begin with your listed as a Gold Coast supporter, so what is all this talk about we, our and us??

Secondly, your trade proposals are completely stupid. You're suggesting that Carlton trade our taller, more athletic, more talented, further developed ruck in Hampson in order to obtain the services of a rookie / SANFL player who was overlooked in the same draft as Hammer to begin with.... I don't even know what superlative to use to describe this. The second one involving Boak, Russell and Hartlett is way off on so many levels it's just ridiculous.

I really hope you're taking the piss. I didn't think I'd had that many beers tonight, but after coming on and reading this crapola I wish I had just gone straight to bed

Im a Carlton supporter but I pressed Gold Coast when I first signed up and I never changed it, and Im not taking the piss out of anything Hammer has great potential and I love it when he does something good but I just cant see him improving on how clumsy he is aswell...you cant teach that out of someone its natural clumsyness, I was just trying to point out that now we are no longer drought of a ruckman infact we have 4 perfectly capable ruckman so why not trade one to try improve our current forward line problems and I did say OUR forward line mate because regardless of what team I may or may not have accidently put as my team on an internet site, I think Ive earnt my right to call myself a blue considering how many collingwood flogs I have slaped around in my day;)

and the thread wasnt about trading Hammer fool, that was just an example of something that could actually happen, now if you would like to post your opinion on who we could trade (if you think we should at all) for this bloke.

Just plainly disagree with everything you have said in regards to Hammer, and basically everything in general.

What's wrong with being spoilt for choice in regards to our rucks? For so long we have lacked depth in this area yet as soon as we begin to turn the wheel you suggest we trade away those that we have strived to draft and develop. No deal

I don't know a great deal about Stewart, but lets just say Carlton are interested for arguments sake, a fair trade would be something along the lines of Jacobs (SA boy) in a straight swap. Even then we would be trading someone who has actually played and impressed at AFL level, unlike Stewart.

PS. If you were truly a proud Carlton supporter as you claim to be, it would be one of your first port of calls to change your supported club. I would hate to be seen as a supporter of any other AFL club... Yuck.

And don't refer to me as 'fool'. There seems to be only one of those posting in this thread atm, and I'm quite sure it is not me.

You put up a thread about some kid and then say how about trading Hampson for this kid + a third rounder...

Or giving up a talented young ruckmen, a talented HBF player in Russell and Harts for Boak...

I fail to see how this isnt about trading Hammer and getting arse r*ped in the deal.

Brock McLean

Brock has been put on the table by Melbourne - after contract negotiations having seemed to look unfruitful (ie, refusing to take a $100,000 pay cut).

I think he would be a good fit as an in and under, blocker for Judd - would probably be a significant upgrade on Hadley and is still only young.

I understand that we have more pressing needs at the moment in addressing our forward/back line - but he covers one of the 2 pressing deficiencies our midfield currently has (an in and under, quality extractor who can block for Judd/Murph).

I'd be keen - but Melbourne would in all likelihood demand our Pick #11, there is no way he'd make it to us via the PSD.

What do you guys think? :thumbsu:

NB: Also mentioned by Greg Denham in the Australian (12/09/09)

Port Adelaide's Shaun Burgoyne could be on the move. Melbourne's Aaron Davey remains unsigned and out-of-contract teammate Brock McLean is understood to be tempted to move on.

Re: Brock McLean

I think he's probably worth pick #11. How old would he be now? 23 or 24 I'm guessing. A kid at pick #11 in a weak draft is gonna be hit and miss. McLean is already an excellent player and he'll compliment our other midfielders.

Re: Daniel Stewart

Whilst he sounds alright, Hampson IMO would be in the top 5 for most potential at the club. He's still learning the game and his ruck work could become the league benchmark. He stuffs up on occassions but how many ruckman have a flawless game? Not many.
We're grooming Kreuz to play forward so i dont think we need another ruck/forward. If we need another forward, get a pure forward.

Re: Brock McLean

He'll have just turned 24 at the beginning of next season. Would be a good get for Carlton, a ready made 100 (almost) game player who gets a lot of the ball. Useful in the absence of Judd for the first three rounds. Crikey, if we could get him and Hall.....

Re: Brock McLean

dont think he will leave melbourne but maybe
he wants more wins and glory. but carlton might offer to get him
cloke and pick 11 for mclean and there 46

Re: Brock McLean

Pick 11 is way way too high. Very over-rated. Looked incredibly slow and unfit in the last Blues V Dees gain. Groin issues or just lack of application? Can do a lot better. Pass. :)

I wouldn't base a decision on McClean on that game alone. The opposition weren't exactly trying to win that day. I'm sure the medicos would check him out thoroughly before Carlton would show any genuine interest. A second rounder and Jacobs might get it done....but yes pick 11 is too much.

And how many 'jets' are in and under players? Its easy to look slow when you're in a shit team and the ball continually passes you by.

Re: Brock McLean

Worth a look and like the idea of drafting good players from lower clubs

Lower clubs are much more likely to accept "less" in terms of trade than the top clubs, who already have a good list which means you have to offer better players to get the deal done

Re: Brock McLean

A year ago I would have been totally opposed to this however now I'm not so sure. It was only 3 years ago that McLean was being pumped up by the media as the next big thing however a broken foot,a broken ankle, limited preseasons and perhaps a unreported bout of OP have significantly decreased his output. Having watched him this year its hard to think of a slower player in the AFL. In all honestly writing up a potential best 22 for 2011 he doesn't even make the starting 22.

Will he get back? Maybe he just needs a preseason to get his fitness back?

If Carlton offered pick11 I would seriously consider it. The heart says no but the head says yes.

Re: Brock McLean

Bugger Mclean, there is an 18 year old from Bendigo who won the Bendigo League medal last night, Lee Coughlan, tough as nails, great skills, just not overly quick. Was runner up in the Pioneers B&F last year, but i'm guessing recruiters were worried about his pace. Would be well worth a chance if you ask me.
