Reading some posts, love how Griff can go from the Messiah to a hack in one week.

Personally I think he has been one of the bright lights this year. Not a star by any means but shown enough. Almost choked on my coffee when he couldn't make the distance from 40m though.

He can play against a VFL team, that's for sure. That's where he belongs. Dumb, lazy, shit footballer. Sums up our team for the last 30 years.

Geez yesterday was bad wasn't it.
I actually thought over the first 3 quarters we played okay in some patches - when we force a turnover and run forward in numbers, we can actually look quite dangerous at times. There were a few times where we forced a turnover and rushed forward with numbers running into space and I thought we looked quite good - of course there are a few skill errors and we ended up missing a lot of the shots at goal from those plays, but the intent was there.
But then I think after we'd gone forward a few times without getting goals we went in our shells a bit and started kicking backwards and handballing sideways. Even Rance and Dusty were guilty of this.
As others have touched on, the work rate isnt there. We should be bunching up ahead of the ball and then have players working off in different directions to force space and create targets- unfortunately, we do the bunching up part right and then just stay there. Everytime the Hawks gained possession, they just looked so dangerous with the way their players were running so hard and spreading, they can always find an outlet from pressure situations simply because their players WANT to work for each other.
One of my biggest bug bears is the fact we can NEVER seem to find an easy target from a d50 kick-in. Nobody works off their opponent or makes leads, we just set up at the 50m mark near the boundary waiting for the inevitable bomb - this should be the LAST option after not being able to find an easy target- not the first! And on the reverse side, the opposition seem to always be able to pick us apart from their kick ins- we don't make teams pay with sustained pressure in the forward line as they just get it out so easily.
I don't want us to drop Castagna or Markov after poor games yesterday- they've shown a bit over the last few weeks, the only chance they will get to develop is to show them footage of what they did right/wrong and what they can do to improve and then give them another crack next week. The temptation is going to be there for Hardwick to recall some of his favourites, but the season is over so now is the time for the kids to show what they can do.

Oh the irony from DH in his after match presser

getting stuck into Dusty...whinging about his decision making
Having a go at our defenders for being embarrassing ( or whatever the word was he used) in the last

How's about your inept defensive game plan DH? Talk about setting our players as lambs to the slaughter

Can't hack him singling out players when his game plan sucked BIG time

I'd bring Houli back in if for no other reason than to have the kids experience having a bit of run and carry to play off.

Pretty hard when he is asked a specific question about a player. He didn't bring it up out of the blue. The question about Dusty was something to do with him winning the Brownlow and I didn't mind Dimma's response actually. Keeps Dusty grounded.

I must say watching hawthorns game plan is really good for our team - long kicks, creating overlap and giving forwards deep chances towards goals. Their users through the corridor was good.
We're a team that uses handballing way too much and it doesn't create any forward movement. Saying that I found Jack out of position too many times, Mcbean showed me yesterday he wants to give a crack at this level by doing tackling - leading up the ground marking, vickery doesn't do that.

Agree, they're only going to develop properly if they are learning off better players.
I know Taylor Hunt had a good game yesterday but as far as I'm concerned that's just bought him a few more weeks that he doesn't deserve. Sub-AFL standard player who won't take us forward. If Bachar is fit enought o run out a whole game he should be in for Hunt.

Interesting problem. Do we keep Hunt in the side or not. The problem is that Hunt, with all of his shortcomings probably covers as much ground as anyone and we will be so much poorer without it even with Bachar in the side.

One of my least favourite players but I'd have him ahead of Ellis at the moment.

Probably one of the reasons that they are rushing Drummond back so quickly. Great speed and endurance.

Anyone know how Bachar went in the VFL?
As a few have already mentioned Bachar was a class above. Took about a qtr before he came on but after that completely dominated in terms of skills, getting involved. I kind of thought, first game back, he'd only play a half (off for last qtr) but was going just as hard at the end and was a driving force in the last qtr. Didn't get in the best players in the paper today which was total rubbish.

I'd say on that effort he comes back in for any of the young guys needing a rest, or perhaps some more experienced guys to send a message.

Someone asked how Ty went. Didn't get involved too much - which is disappointing for VFL level. Did a couple of good things in the last when the game was on the line (kicked a long goal and set another up) which was at least something, but was about all I noticed of him. Also, I know the popular thing is to bag Ty but gezz some 'supporters' are cruel. Some of the abuse being hurled at Ty was/is uncalled for. I know he's a big boy and everything, but i felt genuinely sorry for him.

Townsend played well but disposal is not good enough for AFL level IMO. Callum Moore looks similar - he seems to have lots of nice attributes however I've seen him in a few games and have not witnessed an authoritative shot on goal yet - has missed at least 4 set shots i can remember without kicking one. Pity as he looks a player.

I am a journo and I just had to go and take pics and do a story at the local senior citizens piano concert.
It was infinitely more enjoyable than yesterday's game.

I sit about 5 rows back and right near the interchange at the 'G. A few weeks ago Vickery was running off the ground and a supporter in front of me actually stood up and yelled "And STAY off Vickery!" and i just thought that's so uncalled for when he's clearly in ear shot and he's one of your own players. Anyway, Ty gave him the most subtle of rude fingers, close to his body and pointing downwards... I'm surprised nobody else around me noticed except for the guy who called out and myself, but i thought good on you Ty hahaha
