Stroke of genius by Morris with all those positional moves, they all came off, including Bauer forward.
Good call re Brindley he has a massive tank, big vertical leap and was able to compete really well in the air and on the ground
The good thing about Morris he’s like an old fashioned defender with limited playing ability, but would reduce his effectiveness of his opponent by thoroughly researching their game. A bit like a Malthouse , Sheedy and Clarko .
These guys do their homework well as coaches also and not only do they work out how to dissolve the opposition, but they look at all the strengths their own team have and use them to carry out their mission. He’s pulled out more moves than a Russian chess player in the last few games and getting teams checkmate unexpectedly. He’s been impressive considering the injuries we’ve had and also the blending and balance of these VFL listed players with our boys has been seamless as well as productive. The boys really are playing as unit with enjoyment and success is becoming common.

Spot on TI. Love watching the VFL team.

McQualter was another with no elite traits and made it through hard work. Didn't Ross Lyon delist him twice and he kept coming back?

Brown played some very good games last year and a very good game preseason. Judging off a first up effort is unfair.

Played more bad then good. But thats irrelevant to what I said. Effort is easy to measure and Brown defensive efforts are piss weak and that is being considerate. His reaction to losing a contest is to give up, Tresize who is essentially his direct competitor is streets ahead of him in this area. Im not sure its something that will change over time.

I watched the entire game. We played 3 rucks, Miller, Brindley and Biggy, all were smashed by their rucks early because they were enormous. Hardly won a centre clearance all game. Miller was the best of the rucks early because he had been up against AFL rucks and Biggy got a few hit outs around the ground and was very good all game mainly as a forward.

But in the last Q Brindley rucked the last 15 minutes or so I. Miller went to full back and Biggy played more forward. When their big rucks got tired Brindley was too quick and agile at ground level as well as winning quite a few hit outs and got the ball moving our way which in turn won us the game.

Didn't help that the moron of an umpire had no idea how to bounce the ball.

He couldn't chase because he has played no football at all and his first game back was against players with half a season under their belts. Normally these players coming back from injury play a lower time on ground, but he seemed to have played a full game. That is going to leave any player running at half pace at times. He was also probably a bit wary of tackling and punching the ball because he had a broken wrist for 5 months that wouldn't heal.

You cannot in any fairness base any part of a players game after one game after a 5 month layoff. And yes he played some average games last year, but he was a first year player, that happens. Using 15 disposals as an average game for a half back flanker, last season he had 8 games with under 15 and 8 games over, top games 3 x 20, and one 24. Not bad for a first year.

That's a really great point.

Brown's foot skills and vision with the ball is elite. Needs sometime to not feel like a boy amongst men, doesn't need to come good until Jayden Short is reaching the end of his career tbh. There is no spot for him in the AFL team, will start getting regular games once Grimes hangs up boots.

So if injury is the excuse for this game whats the excuse for his lack of intensity last season? There is 17 games of data that make me question his work rate and effort. I identified this issue after his first game and haven't seen anything yet that suggest any improvement.

Too many excuses are made for young players rather than actually analysing their deficiencies. Brown does a number of things well but it's clear as day that the biggest thing holding him back is his effort, having not played in 5 months should be all the more reason to be wanting to come back and make a statement with intent. Using a wrist injury for a suppose lack of fitness that somehow justifies giving up 20m on opponent during the 2nd quarter doesn't stack up.

I will again compare him to Trezise who is only 12 months older but hasn't been involved in any elite development program up until this season. Trezise is a lot more raw but they're both very similar athletes with similar skillsets but in the 8 games Trezise has played in our VFL program its apparent that he doesn't like getting beaten and rarely gives up. I have 17 games of Brown that suggest otherwise. Brown has the talent to overcome his effort but if it doesn't improve then that greatly limit the player he can become.

Well I didn't notice it particularly, confidence perhaps, getting used to playing against men, who knows. It may be as you say and it may be something that he fixes or not, but not just yet, as he has just begun again. He is certainly no Vlastuin, but not many are.

Tresize is 21 and has been playing against men probably since he was 16, like most good country kids who don't go through the TAC competition, private schools etc. Also what that has to do with Brown, Tresize leapfrogged a whole VFL team.

So far I'll back the recruiters who saw something pretty positive to take him so high, time will tell.

You clearly did not watch the whole game... Brindley had his pants pulled down for the entire first half.... let me know when you have so I am not wasting my time with this conversation 😉
Clearly you did not watch the last quarter. Brindley is not a ruckman but was brilliant in the last as quoted. That we needed him in the ruck is not a reflection on him but on Biggie and Miller (both of whom are not ruckmen either). "Had his pants pulled down" is unworthy of you, its not how many times you hit the ball its where it goes and what happens next. IMHO our "rucks" controlled the packs when the ball hit the ground, you may need to watch again.

Maybe you need some new glasses old-timer?

I clearly referred to Brindley's performance in the first half.

Everyone played well in the last quarter.

Steve Morris’s report
He’s given Sonsie a boot up the arse

Lachlan Street (29 disposals, 18 contested possessions, 10 clearances, seven inside-50s)

"Almost the complete game from him. He was crucial in the last quarter and played a really solid role for us in helping out our backs through his work-rate"

Angus Hicks (23 disposals, five tackles, four clearances)

"His best game for the club. He was asked to play a role inside at different stages, and I thought his pressure both up forward and around the footy was fantastic. He was a really important part of us winning the game."

Tyler Sonsie (22 disposals, six inside-50s, four clearances)

"Didn't have the game that we've come to expect of him at this level. He'll be looking to bounce back with an improved performance next week."

James Trezise (17 disposals, eight marks, five tackles)

"His good was very good, he's a really exciting player for Tigers fans moving forward. His contest work is brilliant and one on one, he's as good as anyone."

five clearances)

"He's been in good form for much of the year, but he performed a really important role for us going inside when Cam Olden went off with a concussion. It's really important for him and the team to be able to play wing, half-back and also in the midfield, which he did on the weekend."

Cam Olden (17 disposals, seven tackles, five clearances)

"Was on track for an incredible game with 17 disposals, 10 contested possessions, seven tackles and five clearances in less than half of the game. But unfortunately he went off and we look forward to having him back when he is recovered from his concussion."

Sam Banks (16 disposals, four rebound-50s, three marks, one goal)

"Struggled to get into the game on the wing on the first half so we put him in the backline and I thought he was really important with his run and contests. It was also nice to see him finish a really beautiful set-shot from outside 50."

Bigoa Nyuon (15 disposals, 10 hit-outs, five marks, two goals)

"Had a fantastic game. Would have loved for him to convert a bit better in front of goals, but he's getting himself to some fantastic positions and is looking extremely promising forward of the footy."

Brad Melville (15 disposals, four clearances, four inside-50s)

"I thought Brad had a reasonable game playing at half-forward. He was really important in a couple of passages late, had really smart ball-use and played his role perfectly for the team."

Harrison White (14 disposals, four clearances, four inside-50s)

"Had some really good moments but also was exposed a little bit around the footy. H'll take some good lessons out of that vision as he hasn't spent a lot of time playing in the midfield."

Steely Green (13 disposals, three marks, two inside-50s)

"Really pleased for Steely to have a breakout game. He could have easily influenced the scoreboard more heavily, having missed a couple of gettable shots, but I'm really proud of his mature decision to centre the ball right at the end of the game when he could have gone the glory shot from the boundary."

Tom Brindley (13 disposals, seven hit-outs, three marks)

"He's a really unique player. He's powerful in the air and he can play a number of roles for us. He is equally as effective at ground level, as we saw in the dying stages, with some really important passages and clean hands around the footy."

Jacob Bauer (12 disposals, six marks, six rebound-50s, one goal)

"I really liked the version of him that we saw on the weekend. He was rally powerful in the air with some big spoils that made a big difference to our defence. And he looked strong in the air when he went up forward in the final quarter as well. It's nice to see him have flexibility and impact at both ends of the ground."

Ben Miller (12 disposals, eight hit-outs, four marks, four tackles)

"A really solid game. Importantly, He did't lose many aerial contests at all on the day, and I thought he set us up really well when he moved down back late in the game."

Misilifi Faimalo (12 disposals, four marks, three inside-50s)

"He's progressing really nicely. He's a player we want in the side for his speed, but I think his offensive game is really improving at the moment. Having said that, his defensive pressure and work-rate is outstanding."

Luke Teal (12 disposals, five rebound-50s, four marks)

"Was a valuable contributor to the back six once again. He won a couple of really crucial contests."

Matt Coulthard (11 disposals, six inside-50s, five marks, one goal)

"Tigers fans would be really pleased with what they saw from him in his first game at VFL level. It was really pleasing to see not only his offensive impact, but he's someone who can influence the game heavily on defence."

Mutaz El Nour (11 disposals, five marks, three rebound-50s)

"Low possessions, but I really loved his game. He is so diligent on defence, he works his backside off to play a system for us and help us teammates out, and his physicality was fantastic down back as well."

Mykelti Lefau (10 disposals, four marks, one goal)

"Everyone was keen to see him back in action after 13 months on the sidelines, and it didn't take long for Tigers supporters to see what we've been missing. He had a huge impact on the game, had six bone-crunching tackles, and a role in a number of scoring opportunities. "

Tom Brown (nine disposals, three tackles, three rebound-50s)

"Played down back in his first game for the year. He didn't have a huge offensive output, but what I saw from him defensively was a real willingness to defend, and it's a really good starting point for his season. Late in the game he was able to find a free player in the corridor with some slick hands to give us our final scoring opportunity."

Kaelan Bradtke (eight disposals, four marks, one goal)

"Hot and cold game from him. He stood out in the air at different stages, taking three contested marks, but I'd love to see him be able to halve a few more contests and have a little bit more impact when the ball hits the ground."

Max Clohesy (eight disposals, three tackles, two inside-50s)

"Although his numbers don't look fantastic, he was a really solid contributor. He is invested in our defence and we've got a lot to work with."

Ben Bilston-McGillen (five disposals, two tackles, one goal)

"Great to see Ben take his moment in the last quarter. he wins contests and he gets scoring opportunities, but it was the one that mattered most in the last quarter that we were pleased to see sail through."

Love Morros reports they’re honest as the Sun rising. Calls a spade a spade the old cagey bugger.

VFL watchers.

Is Lachlan Street one of the best most versatile players not on an AFL list?

Just seems to play to an incredible standard wherever the team needs him.
He’s just an ever reliable old vfa player mate. Just not good enough unfortunately for vfl. Just lacks a gear for his height at afl, but will dominate you at vfl level. He’s a tremendous leader though and I love the way he directs our young kids around. He’s a smart wily old coyote and we’re very lucky to have him with such a young list.

Captain. My Captain. I salute you Streety.

Absolutely love this Tigers team that you lead.

Cheers mate, yeah he appears to ooze leadership. Potential coach one day maybe?
