Viney moves to Melbourne

Agreed...how about Gary O'Donnell (always thought he was very articulate and switched on - and was shown the door by the Bombers now that Hirdy's back) or Tom Harley? Probably preferable to have someone who's played more midfield though....maybe Adam Simpson or even Kane Johnson who've had a year out of footy?

O'Donnell would be good IMO. Assisted Leigh Matthews during the premiership years at Brisbane IIRC. We need someone of his calibre - someone who has been in the system for a few years, worked at a few clubs and can bring fresh ideas to the table.

Re: Viney gone :(

Well don't read too much into this, but what I've picked up from some excellent sources very close to the club - is that Viney's main issue was that the Crows were moving steadily away from the Hawthorn game style that Viney was celebrated for bringing to the AFC, and he (Viney) had no other string to his bow, so he moved on before he was found out.

Meanwhile, NC has been having some very heated "frank and opens" with the remaining assistants over who they should target as a replacement. Apparently (don't read too much into this, but it's what my source tells me) the other assistants are keen on Ricciuto or Edwards, and they're nervous about Craig's insistence on bringing in a fresh pair of eyes.

So my sources tell me.

^^^^ I made all that up. But if I rang 5AA and told them that, the talkback audience would lap it up.

^^^ Which is a long winded way of saying: I call BS on your "know for a fact" etc. (Noting of course that the only thing you claimed to "know for a fact" was that NC and Viney "often had different opinions" ) :)

Is it at all possible you could actually put that in english.

Look I'm not denying that it isn't the case, I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes in the commentary box. But to suggest what you are suggesting is pure speculation based on absolutely nothing and hence is nothing more than a conspiracy.

Quite frankly I think it is insulting to some absolute Legends of our club to suggest that all they do is rock up to meetings, agree with NC and then collect their pay checks.

Seriously, I think its time for you to grow up. Do you seriously think that Rob Champman, currently the Chief Executive of St George Bank as well as being Chief Executive of Bank SA for 8+ years would allow the AFC to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars a year for 4-5 men to say "yes" to NC.

Someones on their high horse.

You accuse me of making stuff up and then come out with this massive extrapolation of what I said. I never suggested any of the the crap that you have fancifully dreamed up in this post.

My point quite simply for those of you that are finding this all too hard to understand is; Viney by the shear fact of his seniority relative to the other coaches was not as accepting of everything NC was trying to do. Hart, Bickley and Clarke are inexperienced coaches and as such are much more accepting that what NC says is Gospel.

Not sure if any of that exactly warrants your rant about the St George bank.

By all means tell me that this is BS and that I made it up. I really couldnt give a shit. There are others that will have heard similar from their own sources that know its true.

P.S Dont recall mentioning the COMMENTARY BOX either.

Actually the "rift" if you want it called that was not between Viney and Craig it has allegedly been between Viney and David Noble.

with our results, i'd be very angry if it was a happy environment. that of itself is not unhealthy.

mind you, i'd be all for the hound. he's nobodies yes man.

I understand your sentiment, but if they're not singing from the same hymn book on match day it becomes a problem. Anyway, despite Wood Duck's posturing, it's all speculation really I guess.

Todd's a quality guy and his lad will be a good player it seems, so it is a loss to the club but good luck to the Viney family.

As for assistants, you'd hope Sanderson was #1 target, he's a quality bloke and very highly regarded by the right people. Andy Collins from Westies was mentioned and I think he is an excellent choice from left field. His philosophies, style and professionalism has turned that club around and I think he is a chance to coach at AFL level one day. Scott Burns is another who I think would be excellent but may not be available.

Another decent pick might be Craig MacRae - ex Glenelg boy recent departure from Brisbane, by all reports pretty solid and has had the benefit of being coached by Mathews and playing in premiership teams. I reckon he'd be worth looking at.

There are some quality candidates out there. I would love to get Don Pyke back. That guy was a GUN assistant coach. There are still some good assistants out there that might be available.

Hinckley (GC)
Sanderon
O'Donnell
Burns
Choko :D

I think we can still attract a good, experienced assistant coach, preferably a midfield specialist.

Getting Sanderson would be ideal I reckon if Hinkley gets the Geelong coaching job. He may then decide he doesn't have the potential to get a head coach position at the Cats in the near future and may look for a change.

Please no to O'Donnell. As for Pyke, I reckon if he wasnt making so much coin in the commercial world, he'd be West Coast's head coach by now - definately a gun :thumbsu:

I dont even think it qualifies as a rift. Its more just about a divergence of opinion on an ongoing basis. I have heard a little about the Noble stuff, but no detail.

I am actually quite surprised that Noble has moved out of the coaching position as I thought NC and Noble almost spoke as one. Maybe you can elaborate on why Nobles job has changed Stiff?

Id hardly call it posturing. I am merely passing on some information, that Vineys realtionship with NC and possibly the other coaches was strained at times. Thats It. Dunno why people are making out to be some sort of huge conspiracy.

Bummer - just read MacRae has been signed by Collingwood :(

People are mostly reacting to the arrogant way you put forward an opinion, (which, unless you are claiming to have some inside source, is little more than an educated guess) as though it's the only possibility, and act as though anyone who doesn't fully agree must be an idiot.

Ive got better things to do than make shit up and post it on bigfooty. I posted some credible information (hardly ground breaking stuff though) and got called a lier and told to grow up.

But hey if no one is interested and all anyone wants is bullshit and heresay, I shall happily oblige.

You could have said something along those lines, rather than saying that anyone with the slightest brain would be aware that your opinion is right.

Laughing at some of the names being thrown up as assistants. I would really like someone in the box with some proven coaching credentials rather than plucking names from the recently retired list because they were good players or good blokes.

Get this guy;

After six years as an assistant coach at Essendon, Gary O’Donnell will also pursue other opportunities next season.
“Gary is looking to move onto the next stage of his career after holding assistant coaching roles at Essendon under Kevin Sheedy and then Matthew Knights,” Hamilton said.

Should be our prime target IMO, followed by Sandersen (Sanderson?); both would be excellent.

Rick McGowan would go alright, and he's coming back to Adelaide.

Otherwise, somebody from the Pies/Cats/Saints.

And to be honest, I'm glad Jack Viney is going to Melbourne.

Melbourne had nothing to do with us being screwed over for Gibbs; as much as I'd love Viney, I'd also be uncomfortable with it.

And seriously, anybody suggested we get Mark Williams (and his family) involved in our Footy Club needs to book themselves into drug rehab.

Phil Harper said that they wouldn't rule it out in his press conference this after noon. He stated that Mark Williams used to be the enemy but now he is not. I don't think it would happen but he wouldn't be a yes man like others in here have said about the rest of our assistants.

And so another urban myth starts to spread.;)

Who says? Is this pure speculation? Is there any real evidence for you to say this? Or do I just put this in the same box as the "Neil Craig has lost the players" myth.

Laidley still available?

Its credible information, but again its not a big a deal. Are you best mates with everyone you work with?

PS. For the record I never subscribed to the "NC has lost the players theory".
