Viney moves to Melbourne

Its credible information, but again its not a big a deal. Are you best mates with everyone you work with?

PS. For the record I never subscribed to the "NC has lost the players theory".

It's pure speculation. There is a difference. You may not have subscribed to the "NC has lost the players theory" but the "All the assistant coaches bar Todd Viney are yes men" myth is, at the moment, in the same boat.

I hear his son is a decent player.

I don't know about everyone else, but I for one find the whole thing a bit strange.
When the possibility of us getting Young Viney was mooted I raised the issue of the father effectively coaching the Son and how weird that would be.
Now Dad goes and takes a job as the player development manager (or something like that) at the club Jack is 99.9% likely to end up!
If it was me, I'd like to have a bit of room from Dad and make a name for myself. Having Dad coach you is ok in U12's, but seriously he's going to be this kids development manager! I have issues with this and reckon Todd should back TF away and let his Son find his own way.
FWIW I'm not a fan of either Dad or Son from what I have seen and heard about both of them. Pretty ordinary human beings IMHO.

Sour grapes if I've ever seen it.

Actually no!
If you check the Thread from when we were allegedy trying to get Jack through GWS you will find I made the same comment. Has nothing to do with Todd leaving or Jack likely to be at Melb.
They simply aren't quality people (IMHO).
Of course that doesn't mean Jack can't play, because he seriously can!

Well, you'll forgive me if I disregard your opinion on Viney's character. I doubt you've even met him or his son and are basing your sentiments on second hand BS.

Todd is highly regarded and well respected in AFL circles, and is much loved by all at the MFC. A nicer bloke you will not meet.

Even for you thats one of the dumbest things I've read in a long time.

Why? So many in here have insisted that Craig surrounds himself with 'yes men', and in particular that it is an in-breeding (not sure if that's the right term, but I'm sure you know what I mean) program for ex players. If HE is the one pushing for an external assistant coach - one that can bring a different perspective, then that puts paid to that little theory doesn't it?

Fair enough. Just as I will disregard yours!
That part aside, do you any issues with the Dad/Son relationship in the club? Good or not?

None at all. Everyone is wrapt to have Todd back. He will add volumes to the development of our young players. And when and if Jack comes onto our list, I'm sure he will be a valuable 10 year player for the club.

And with regards to Todd being the coach of his son's team. This is a non-issue as I have no doubt that Dean Bailey will be the coach of Melbourne for many, many years to come.

And hopefully Todd can provide MFC with some sort of insight into how to play Aami Stadium, so that we can get within 7 goals of you blokes there next year! ;)

I'd be hating having Todd there if I were Jack. Sure, take as much guidance as you can from him in a family setting, but It'd just be strange in a professional AFL environment IMO.

Anyway, good luck to him. Will be interesting to see if he can maintain his development and stay ahead of his peers once they catch up physically.

Not if Melbourne fail to make the eight next year. And even if they do...'many, many years'? Give us a break.

You wouldn't be thinking that way as a 17 year old.

When you get up towards 21, I agree you'd be thinking negatively about the situation.

My husband has coached our boy for 3 years... next year will be the last because we think it's important (for his development) he gets exposed (and used) to different coaches. I think it would be a mistake, at that level, to have a parent coaching. Apart from the shit you'd get from your team mates, there is always the possibility of one of two scenarios. a) your father treats you more favourably than others or b) your father treats you harder than others. Neither might be true, but perceptions are massive - just look at what happens at our own Club when there's no family involvement (thinking here about the perceived reactions to some players and the imaginary "golden ticket").

Nothing like his old man then.

Really guys, Viney is a Demon through and through; just like you'd expect Goodwin to come back to the Crows eventually, unless he got a senior Coaching gig, Viney was always going to go back to Melbourne.
