Why? So many in here have insisted that Craig surrounds himself with 'yes men', and in particular that it is an in-breeding (not sure if that's the right term, but I'm sure you know what I mean) program for ex players. If HE is the one pushing for an external assistant coach - one that can bring a different perspective, then that puts paid to that little theory doesn't it?

Please name the current assistant coaches Jen. Are they all not ex players?
Why would anyone be disappointed that NC wants to bring in someone from outside the club?
As for the yes men thing, I think that has been given a bit more life than it deserved. I have used the term yes men myself, but largely in reference those concerned having no other coaching experience and no experience outside of the Adelaide crows. I see them as yes men in that they dont have the experience to question Craigs methods. Not sure how people come up with all the BS about me inferring they dont earn their pay.

Actually it probably gives the theory more weight.

Craig himself seems to have recognised that it has been an issue.

One thing we've seen from Craig over the years he's been at the Crows is that he's always been trying to identify flaws in his methods and the club and then seeks to remedy those flaws. You could argue he is fingering the insular nature of our coaching panel as a flaw.

However, it could just be that he's trying to do a "like for like" replacement. Viney's an outside guy with experience, let's replace him with another outside guy with experience.

You wouldn't be thinking that way as a 17 year old.

When you get up towards 21, I agree you'd be thinking negatively about the situation.

I can't speak for Jack Viney, but I certainly would have been thinking that way at 17.

Rumor on AA Matthew Knights has been interviewed. I hope nope not.
Bass staying at Norwood.

Matthew Knights may've been a liability as a senior coach, but he could well excel in another role. The senior coaching position is as cutthroat a gig as there is in the game, it's not for everyone. His failure there doesn't necessarily rule him out as someone who can make a positive contribution in an assistant role.

I for one am not opposed to him coming on board with us if we're satisfied with what he presents.

I agree - a poor senior coach does not necessarily equate to a poor assistant.

I get where you are coming from, but I'd like to see more recognition that Craig is getting things right. So many complain when he stuffs up, but rarely step up and say, yep, he got that right.

Neil Craig is soooooooooooooooo coooooooool and awesome at his job, we finished right up the top of the ladder....as high as 11th last year. **** we're good.

If Matthew Knights joins our coaching ranks, I will support Port Adelaide.

Smart arse.

It's easy to bag the crap out of him, but I notice that those of you who do so on a regular basis, really have problems recognising any of the GOOD he's done. If he's acknowledged a problem and looking for solutions, then credit should be given. If, however, he'd buried his head in the sand - or just appointed a recently retired Crows player - you would be justified in bagging him. He didn't.

Going by that logic Terry Wallace would be a good candidate for vacant assistants job.
Speaking of former senior coaches Gary Ayers could be headed to Brisbane.

Crap, because he’s the senior coach, we have to look at his position from a holistic perspective. We have to and can only judge his performance on a win loss/ladder position and we finished 11th. NOT GOOD ENOUGH. If he (or you) needs someone to say how good he put the towels away in the gym last week and how awesome he cleaned the cafe....we in strife as a club. He will be judged on wins and losses and making the finals or not.

Jesus, talking about burying your head in the sand.

There is plenty that one can fairly evaluate from the outside. What are the responsibilities of the head coach: On-field strategy, player development, selection policy, team cohesion etc.

Yeah, good luck, Jack.

Just musing here, clear that Jack will go to Demons, Crows have given up the pick they might have used to secure him if he wanted to be a Crow. But it almost seems to me that Mum and Dad have pulled a heavy on Jack - made sure that he doesn't have any other options. All Jack had to do to be a Demon was say he wanted it. Has he done that yet? Is this more to do with what Todd and his wife want?

Whatever. Good luck, Jack.

Personaly I think its more like dad has given up his job and made it possible for him to go to his preferred club and still have his family around him. The family is basically Victorian/Melbournian IMO. Was Jack even born in SA? or ever have a connection/allegence to the Crows? I dont think so.

Got to agree with this version of events, myself. It seems much more likely to me that Todd saw the writing on the wall with Jack going to Melbourne and figured it would be better to head back there now and get settled than try to do it when Jack is drafted, or even have Jack go there by himself.
