ok, without being too biased where abouts on the ladder do you think we will finish on 2007? If you dont think we'll finish top who will be the team we're all chasing??

1st: West Coast
2nd: Stkilda
3rd: Sydney
4th: Freemantle

Adelaide & West Coast will easily finish top 4 due to sheer talent, depth and home form. Then you would think Swans, Freo, Geelong and Melbourne will be there abouts again fighting for the other two top spots with St Kilda not far away. The Saints will rely on a good coach for a change but have some injury problems - no one comes back better straight up from a reco so Hayes will be down and McGuire is doubtful and they also have no ruck. Would think the Bullies will be hard to beat but a year or two away and Essendon should improve but won't quite get there. Only real change will be Geelong should move up if the coaching situation is now resolved. The Hawks will miss Spida and if he stays fit will be a game winner for the Swans to maybe help offset some of losses from the last couple of years which have pushed us down to fourth.

I would think like any of the past two years, finish in the top 4 you have a good chance of winning the comp which may sound basic but there will be no absolute stand out - particulalry when you take the interstaters to the MCG where the big game is played.

And for Nat - the big unknown in any year is injuries - take a few key players out of any side in the years of reduced lists and you can struggle i.e. - who wins 2006 if Cox and Judd don't play.

It is still between the Swans and Eagles. Any other opinion is just hope by other club supporters.

If we had Ball last year we would have easilyt won the G/F - absolutely no doubt about that.

I personally do not like Everrit but know from the Swans brains trust that he will make a HUGE difference next year.

Don't write us of just yet - like you did in early 2006 !!!!!

yeh, once again.... a very even comp will be played.... injuries & suspensions & playing well away from home, all these things will make a massive difference if all goes their way...

i wonder who will win the pre-season comp (not that is has any bearing)... i recon a collingwood, melb, bdogs or kangas will take it out...

A whole bunch of what ifs guiding you judgement there. You really are on a high horse aren't you? If things went our way you wouldn't have even made it to the grand final in 05. Given that StKilda were massively undermanned, and that we'd flogged the Eagles at the end of the season, who knows. What ifs can be thrown from all angles. If you think that West Coast and Sydney will be running a two horse race in '07 you are deluded.

your top 4's not bad... why you think melb tho? not saints or freo?
i have high hopes for the saints... (they hav a pretty good coach! ;)
Freo will be just in or just outside the 4 and the Dees are a very, very good unit, albeit inconsistant. If they can flush that out of them they are sure to feature close or at the double chance.

St Kilda and Geelong, neither will make top 8.

You have to wonder why a Cats supporter is posting on the Swans board ?

Anyway - just to clear up some facts about 2005. Swans went into the Semi Final as hot favourites as Geelong were fairly undermanned and we had that SCG home ground advantage.

Geelong closed up the game entirely and we were very lucky with some miracle goals from Nicky Davis to win in the end. Basically Balls preserverance and effort in the last 1/4 were outstanding

But we were the favourites and a known better team than Geelong - we proved this again in 2006 - how did Geelong go last year btw ????

Everyone is entitled to their opinions - but luckily mine are always correct.

Well ur a ******** if u say sumthing like that, but yes the Swans last year were a much better side than Geelong no doubts about that at all and in 05, although i believe Geelong should have won, we didnt and at the end of the day its the team who wins the game is the better team!!
I believe both teams will be very strong this year but would predict the Swans to finish slighty higher than Geelong, probs 3rd or 4th IMO. Sydeny to finish there that is!

Not necessarily Ball. We were also missing Crouch! He was the missing link, and with all respect to Jolly. I don't think he's our number one ruckman (if i compare it to Ball's presence with the Swans). I'm quite glad we recruited Everitt.

I don't care if they write us off, becuase then those who write us off won't see us coming. i.e. 2006! :D Almost had the last laugh.

yeh Dee's are a good unit indeed.... consistency is they key for them to be successful!

but how cool is daniher as a coach?! win or lose he's still actually smiling at the post match interviews....

you dont rate stk though?? not even in the top 8? thats harsh! hehehe

St Kilda and Geelong, neither will make top 8.

Hm... i disagree.

Geelong will make it to the top 8 IMO. Even though they played okay-ish in 06, i think they'll be ready and firing. And as for the Saints.. is Ross a good coach? ahaha.. i know he's been with the Swans for quite a while, i don't know if he's a good coach.

although i believe Geelong should have won, we didnt and at the end of the day its the team who wins the game is the better team!!

yeh i admit we were lucky against geelong, & to reiterate what you're getting at, all that matters is who is leading at the final siren; ugly win or not, by 10 goals or by 1 point... a win is a win...

hmmm.. rucking... well you know the way the swannies are, we dont need a team of superstars, we make do with what we have & are good at it! jolly aint the best ruckman going around, but he fits our team "criteria" & fits in well with the team structure... that'll do me fine!! =)

though im still a bit amazed (even though it never had to happen, luckily) that he would give up playing in the GF for the whole premature birth of his child thing. im NOT a father so can't really relate, but gee, he's paid to play & his team needs him.... he would have worked all year to play in that GF! hard to say, but at this moment in time my decision woulda been to play the GF regardless if i had to choose... tough...

wonder why the saints didnt choose Longmire though? to me (on paper) he seemed more of a "better" coach to have....

maybe ross was cheaper? hehehe

Swannies will finish 3 or 4 in my opinion. I'm expecting Freo, West Coast and a Vic side to join them in the top four with the Vic side probably being Melbourne.

I think Adelaide will make the 8 but I don't think they'll finish top 4. I think it is naive to think that it will be a two horse race between the Swans and West Coast again.

Also, I think it is too early to tell where Geelong will finish, was last season an abhorration on a climb up the ladder or did we play beyond our skill level in 2004 and 2005? It is conceivable that the Cats could finish anywhere between first and eleventh and every prediction I've heard has been based on different individual player's form (either coming good in 2007 or playing **** again) which is far less relevant than the way the team play together and we won't know that until about round 6.

True, but the GF is stuck with me for a while. And i'm feeling convinved that Jolly is an okay-ish ruckman. But I know that he had a solid season in 06. Had a lot of hitouts, mainly due to our infinite stoppages. Overall, he's an okay ruckman. With Everitt in the club, it would add more depth into the team IMO. =] Everitt will fit well with the team structure.

shhh... enough about that! =] i'll go through all my 'what ifs' again if i keep on reading something relating to the GF.

I agree with the top 4 stuff, but i reckon the top 4 will be similar as to last year. Adelaide is still a good team, they were just playing badly towards the end of the year becuase their key players were down on injuries.
