Our problems won't be a quick fix either. This is what happens when you neither prioritise, nor recruit for, contested ball

How do you take a team with a coach who for his full tenure has never valued contested ball, and somehow make a team good at it? 10 years worth of recruiting guys that play outside, or off half back, and have no contested game.

The answer is, you can't. Not until you prioritise it during recruitment, restructure your game plan over a series of years, and readdress the most important stat in football that has long been neglected by consistently drilling it into your playing group

Another positive: we didn't come up with an Anzac jumper to flog with token RSL donations. It might only have been because Castore are too hopeless to make one, but I choose to believe it was a moral stance.

They can’t even produce a jumper for Patrick Naish to wear, good luck making a tribute jumper for the club that doesn’t do tribute jumpers as they pull focus from the other tribute jumpers.

The club needs to work out what they are doing with Waterman. I dont think he is ever going to fit with what we are doing and should be trade bait.

I don’t think waterman is priority. He is a support player to finish when we are dominating in middle.

He can’t do much if up the ground we are toilet.

Also, this got brought up last week on fox footy and its obvious watching the game live: Duggan is getting lost in the zone

He either
i) doesn't know who his direct opponent is
ii) is standing in the wrong position
iii) both

Time and time again he was poorly positioned which led to scoring chains resulting in goals

It's time it was made known to all. There are people on here who actually think Duggan should be captain etc etc. Unfortunately he simply cannot fully grasp the intricacies of AFL structures, positioning and what the hell is going on. He still has to have it explained constantly by pretty much anyone because he just can't see it. With all our struggles midfield and his past exposure, you don't think we'd be trying him more midfield if it was an option?
We may go there at times still in the future out of desperation but the reality is, after 7 years in the system, it is still beyond him. He has some good qualities as well, no he is not a "spud", but he just can't grasp the in depth stuff on field.

In a part defence of Duggan, it’s your small defenders that look like complete noobs when your losing heavily, they are often the ones having to leave their man, to go to another because the midfield aren’t chasing back. So they often look lost and out of place.

We’d be no better with the replacements. Playing the teams we did early on has given us a false sense of the replacements putting in more “effort”. In reality we just played garbage sides.

It’s easy to pot our “senior players” for not putting in any effort but who isn’t putting in effort? Kelly was our best today, Yeo certainly didn’t look like he was just out there having a party and Shuey never takes a backwards step. So who is it we’re talking about when we put out a blanket statement of “our senior players don’t give a ****”?

At some point the question has to be asked of the fitness and coaching staff. It doesn’t matter how talented your players are if they’re not strong or fit, or if the structures are all over the shop. Let’s face it, quite a number of Melbourne’s players are the same spuds that have been there for 10 years, their top end is very good but the role players are the same plebs (guys like Harmes).

So what’s changed? They’re the fittest side in the comp. It allows for them to get numbers to every contest and swarm forward in numbers off a turnover. That’s literally it. They get their best players on the park every week and they’re fit as f*ck
