Autopsy Positives and Negatives vs Port Adelaide

We’d be no better with the replacements. Playing the teams we did early on has given us a false sense of the replacements putting in more “effort”. In reality we just played garbage sides.

It’s easy to pot our “senior players” for not putting in any effort but who isn’t putting in effort? Kelly was our best today, Yeo certainly didn’t look like he was just out there having a party and Shuey never takes a backwards step. So who is it we’re talking about when we put out a blanket statement of “our senior players don’t give a fu**”?

At some point the question has to be asked of the fitness and coaching staff. It doesn’t matter how talented your players are if they’re not strong or fit, or if the structures are all over the shop. Let’s face it, quite a number of Melbourne’s players are the same spuds that have been there for 10 years, their top end is very good but the role players are the same plebs (guys like Harmes).

So what’s changed? They’re the fittest side in the comp. It allows for them to get numbers to every contest and swarm forward in numbers off a turnover. That’s literally it. They get their best players on the park every week and they’re fit as f*ck
I mean we just played a side that was 0 & 5 sitting at the bottom of the ladder. I don't think you can get more of a garbage side than that. And we made them look like a team of stars.

"Bring the mouthguards Monday" Adam Simpson

😂😂😂😂
I heard Simpson was going to throw a Gatorade bottle across the changeroom at half time but thought better of it and just took the lid off one, tipped a tiny bit out on the floor and replaced the lid.
Really put the guys on notice

Sorry can’t agree

Emotional post coming up.

They have packed it up and could be give a fk at the moment

Why? Because there is literally no threat to their spots no matter how bad they play. None.

They do not two way run, the don’t go hard at the man, can’t stick a tackle,
they couldn’t give a shit

Done with them at the moment, a big f*n turnaround is needed.

There will be more of the same next Friday night.

Thank fu** I’ll be out.
But can’t all that be attributed to S+C? (Or lack of). Our players can’t even run one way at present let alone both ways, hence the slow ball movement. And tackling/sustained pressure takes a shitload of energy and strength. We’ve had the same issues for 10 years, this isn’t just a 2019-2022 problem.

We got away with being good because we built a gameplan around uncontested skills and contested marking rather than any sort of run and carry or contested ball. With the new rule changes continually opening up the field and creating more 1 on 1 contests our team defence and lack of S+C is being found out. I think it’s hard to put this solely down to “senior players checking out” when these same issues have been around since before the flag year

If there is a positive to all this its that belatedly, almost everyone, even our staunchest supporters, can finally see that our medical, strength and conditioning and high performance teams are very, very average

Because we’ve had the worst offseason imaginable in a global pandemic?

You’ve been saying this for the past 4ish years - this is hardly evidence for anything, really. It’s very obvious what the reason is for this result, and, believe me, it only confirms what everyone already knows; global pandemics and satanic luck aren‘t exactly conducive to good fitness.

Fun fact: standout is ashcroft going fs to Brisbane, so even if we get pick 1 we won't get the best player

I wouldn't be picking Ashcroft if we had the first pick I would be taking Wardlaw.

King George is going to be an outstanding AFL player.

So COVID is responsible for Nic Nat being the heaviest he has ever been despite a full pre season? Or our entire senior squad looking slow and visibly unfit and unable to cover ground and get to contests? Or us starting yet another pre season with an already significant injury list before round 1 has even begun?

Your right, I am sure this is all purely circumstantial, our medical, high performance and fitness teams are amazing and there is nothing to see here......

Yep. Not surprising Adelaide have improved dramatically after signing on Melbournes fitness guru. I don’t know why we don’t sort this shit out with all of the extra cash we have at our disposal

From what i saw over a few games... Ports 0 & 5 were a lot better than our 1 & 4 ... their last half last week was the same as their last 3 quarters this week.

Yeah was very curious about following Adelaide’s season when I saw the news of Burgess moving there. They’ve got some good young players sure but it can’t be a coincidence that they’re now able to sustain a manic pressure gameplan and be one of the best 4th quarter sides. Shock horror, elite sport requires elite S+C and medical, something which we don’t seem to have had for a long time. Spend some money there and watch how quickly some of our “duds” start looking like superstars when they’re running on top of the ground

Nah he was just pouring some out for his dead homies.

Perfect post. You nailed it.

This is why a big cleanout is needed and not just the coach. The board has to be replaced for any meaningful changes to happen.

Players cannot have a "credits in the bank" mentality.

The notion of Simpson not holding his favourites accountable for diabolical performances, constantly scapegoating young players whilst backing in his underperforming seniors, isn't a new thing.

People have been saying this has been going on for years. Seems everyone is getting on board the idea suddenly in 2022 because we're finally paying the price for building a culture which doesn't reward performance. Instead relying on credits, contract length and name, which constantly let's fans down time and time again.

Made ya bed, now lie in it Nesbitt. Hopefully you get hit where it hurts, the club pockets, from it's fans pulling the pin.

Not many positives from that one. First quarter was about the most atrocious quarter you will see at AFL level. Both these teams are obviously well past their best, but it's hard to believe this is two of the better teams from 2015 to 2020 putting out that level of footy. The kicking was just diabolical.

Port got slightly better and we just stayed with the shit we've dished up for nine months now.
