I’d be really interested in people’s thoughts about why we got beaten in the centre tonight. Was it poor structures? Felt like we were too slow and always second to the ball. I’m still a bit worried about our ruck options and not giving our mids some modest advantage. Thoughts?

Yep Jack Martin took the full brunt of that spray, don't know whether it was directed at him but he certainly felt the heat of the breath.

I thought so too...hadn't done a whole lot up to that point. I noticed some really good defensive pressure acts from Martin in the last quarter, so Vossy probably baked him about that.

Both Phillips and Draper have a good leap which takes away TDKs strength. Their rucks were great tonight but we wore them down in the second half.

Feel like durdin missing those two relatively easy goals was the turning point but never thought we'd lose
Yep, momentum killing, especially the 2nd one. Love that we are winning but really need to start switching on big time and putting in 4/4 efforts.

I know many won’t agree but I think this is a good a year as any to challenge for a flag. It’s extremely hard to get the points and have good luck as well, but I feel we’ve had a lot thrown at us injury wise this year and we’ve been able to weather the storm so far.

No point thinking we aren’t going to win it this year and next year is really our window, when we’ve do so well.

There isn’t anyone we can’t beat there, but Melbourne & Brisbane are a lot more consistent and well drilled than us.

I think we have to dare to dream NOW, and really switch on for the next 5 games.
if we can get another 3 wins in and start refining our game, getting some consistency in effort over 4/4, and stop the lapses, we are a massive chance.

This was the only area of tonight that concerned me too

Good to see Sam De Koning in the rooms after the game during ‘roaming Brian’.
we should be looking to poach him before the Cats lock him in on a long contract!

Roaming Brian gets cops some flak and I agree it can be a bit awkward/cringe at times, but really enjoyed the behind the scenes access into our rooms. Particularly seeing Durdin's family and sister, plus TDK's family including SDK in the rooms.

The highlight of the night for me was the game Young played and Marchys return,so good to see.
Sloppy second half but will take the 4 points.
Hope Cerra will be ok for next week. Saw him in the rooms after the game,he didn't seem hindered by it.
Young has been massive in the last few weeks. Really stepped up, especially tonight with Weiters down.

You could throw a blanket over about 6 teams right now to win the flag and we are in it up to our eyeballs.

If everything clicks in to place injury/returning players wise with 5 weeks to finals to go anything could happen.

Need some decent luck though but yeah we are in it definitely

bombers did well out of the centre. if we had won our fair share of clearances we may have broken their back earlier like we have done to a lot of teams in the second quarter. that and our failure to capitalise on some easier shots and fluffed forward 50 entries gave them enough of a sniff all night to keep it that 5 goal game.
our defence held firm while we churned through the ball in the last half. nil all draw in the last qtr.

bit cute into 50. plenty of ball got turned over further up the forward line than in the goal mouth which kept our smalls out of some of the play.

Voss ❤️ The spray at the break has been missing at our club for a while. Hate to need it but love to see it when we do need it

That was such an intense spray that the veins in David Parkin's neck and forehead got jealous...

My take:
  • Cerra out early hurt, we've won games without him but it might have thrown our plans off a bit and we took time to adjust.
  • We lost the ruck taps pretty badly...Draper/Phillips were able to get a few clean taps.
  • I think the Bombers set up quite well. We love the 'tap out the back' play to one of our guys who surprisingly is often on his own in a lot of games. I noticed Essendon made sure to man this player up, so none of our mids were standing on their own with time and space.
