A bank-the-win-and-move-on kind of game. Never looked like losing in that last quarter but also never looked like stringing together more than about three clean possessions.

Great to see Marchbank slot back in so seamlessly. It was a pretty good effort all round by our backline. Young, Newman, Doc all excellent.

It was good to have our structure back with Harry's return. Fisher continues to play well. A nice goal off his right, and loved his tackle on Stringer. The other small forwards weren't great though.

Our mids were probably below their usual level. Lost the centre clearances by a lot, but did enough in the first 2.5 quarters to get the game our way. Played less well for the rest of it, and so went the game.

Good news is that we're usually better than that. Expecting to see it next week again Richmond.

Had an opportunity to really put the foot down in the second half after kicking the first 2 goals. Almost broke their backs but we started playing dumb millionaire football. It breathed life back into them and this could have been another scary collapse if * kicked straighter. Glad to see vossy get right into them! It’s becoming more and more evident that this group is capable of doing something special this year as long as they stay humble throughout the course of games and the rest of the season. That fourth quarter was actually my favourite in the whole game. Restricted their ball movement and killed the game. Nothing came easy for them. Had chances to make it a really a strong finish but I’ll take the w. Onwards and upwards. Will be an absolute cracker next week!

Geez reading the first page wanna smack a few people in the mouths and get them thinking right!

Whinge, whinge, whinge.

How about some positivity!

1) we rained on that white hole of a club’s 150
2) Marchbank played well and survived!
3)Young played a really big game and stepped up
4) Stringer the dog did SFA
5) Saad showed them why they are fools
6) we won via translational footy a different approach this week.
7) the team stepped up even after Cerra was injured in the first 5 mins.
8) Harry and Charlie working really well together and Harry coming back from injury not missing a beat.
9) we are 9-3
10) stop ur bloody whinging!

Soooooo many more other positives, get some perspective negative nellies.

Well done baggers proud of u all!

This fantastic post from Reddit:

‘Those absolute cringe merchants rolled out their 16 cups and all their past heroes, did a bunch of shameful fake jumper pulling and a piss weak pre game speech all to get soundly beaten without much of a whimper. Couldn’t have happened to a nicer club, get absolutely ****ed Essendon.’

Couldn’t agree more.

This. Woulda been 43 pts and that’s back breaking. Left the window open though.

Good win given they threw everything at you.

We’re finally, finally, finally at full strength next week with Lynch and hopefully also Lambert back, unless we picked up injuries last night that we’re unaware of. And aside from some shit, fumbly footy last night we’ve been in pretty good form.

You’ll still be far below full strength but you’re better than us now so it should be a cracking game, I think you guys will still win. Walsh is the sorta player that we can’t stop, he’ll have 40+.

Crazy to think Marchbank just slots in seamlessly after a millennium out of footy, and you’re still missing McGovern and Weitering there, elite backline come finals time. Scary. And still missing your main ruck.

You’re my sneaky tip for the flag but you’ll wanna arrest those fade-outs (tonight, Sydney, Hawks from memory).

All the best :)
Must be nice to have a full strength side. Can't even remember the last time I've seen a full strength Carlton side, if ever.... that is actually really depressing...

Hopefully it's a close game, our midfield today didn't look as damaging as they usually are.

If they don't show up next week, expect the richmond forwards to dominate, although same could be said for richmonds midfield....

Feel like durdin missing those two relatively easy goals was the turning point but never thought we'd lose
Get the feeling he plays better when his sister is watching from home, loves her to bits and adds that little bit of pressure to do well when she’s there. He was definitely off his game and missed two goals he generally would have slotted.

Well... my parade just got rained on.

Life is short, love every minute you've got on this planet.

I'm out of here for the night while I remember a long time friend lost too soon.

We set the win up with a good first half. The second half was pedestrian. Despite some early goals in the third quarter, which set up an impregnable lead, the last 45 was underwhelming.

When the opposition is providing the highlights with poor decisions and terrible skills it’s hard to get excited. However when it’s the drug cheats I’ve got to say I got pretty excited. It’s delicious to watch this team wallow in a mire of mediocrity.

I thought we had plenty of contributors on the night. The back line was solid with Docherty, Newman and Saad continuing their good form. On ball in the first half we looked lost in the centre square but around the ground was a different story. Cripps, Walsh, Hewett and Kennedy worked hard both ways and the outside run from that panicked the other mob. Fast ball movement had the opposition struggling to cope with McKay and Curnow. Owies and Fisher provided good options as small forwards.

We were never going to lose the game. I wish all games were as comfortable to watch as that one.
