Actually for the record, while I think BW is a "bona fide" scrub/spud/stud... Ahhh not the last one... Dom Sheed has been a fantastic player for a long time, one of the all time greatest set shot goals in AFL history and does his bit in the midfield week in week out when he's fit and playing.

My beef is with the coach. How can a team be inspired when he looks, speaks like that at pressers.
I reckon the Eagles are suffering from low morale, and if you also have a coach / leader suffering from low morale, it's only natural it will filter down. Simmo just gotta find a way to get his mojo back, to inspire his players.

Ginbey certainly not short of words in his presser. Seems a confident, well grounded guy.

Don’t mind this stance cause Simmo is rightfully on thin ice with supporters.

But genuinely how many players do you estimate watch the press conference? Do you think there’s a chance his demeanour is different when speaking to the players versus Ryan Daniels?

I am all for prioritising youth, and i am not bagging him or saying he is going to be no good in the long run, but i thought Chesser looked like a deer in the headlights last weekend and contributed nothing. There is a case for letting him have 3 or 4 WAFL games to get some confidence back before throwing him into the big time.

Probably none who knows, and definitely he probably does, would be good to see vision of that eg: Clarko,
How long would you give him if the losses keep coming in 2023?

Speaking on behalf of these big footy types, pretty sure they’d give Simpson until 2031 or 2032 to win a game.

Due to his contract I think he survives the year almost regardless.

If it were solely up to me and the soft cap weren’t a thing; he has until the bye to show the big change in system/application/anything, and if not we’d make the coaching change then. Not so much about a set number of wins as a turnaround on the field and who is being put in roles to carry the load.

I think we will possibly be able to infer a fair bit from this weekend. Simpson, the players and the club have been copping it all week in the media, both in WA and over East. The supporters are pretty disgusted with last weeks showing. If they come out and play this weekend without a massive lift in intensity, desperation and effort compared to what we saw last weekend then the prospects for the season and for Simpson surviving longer term look grim. It will be even worse if we put in another s*** effort like last weekend and lose. If the club can't lift and respond after everything they have copped publicly this week, and it is only round 2 and they have almost a full list to pick from and they are playing another non - top 8 side at home, then they likely can't lift at all for anything under the current regime and in the current environment.

I think it's fair to say the general vibe out there amongst the Eagles supporters (outside of BF) - is that Simmo has been there too long, has got stale, and everyone is too comfortable and a shake up is overdue.

Simmo is clearly aware of this in his interviews, saying he hopes to be able transition the team's rebuild to the next stage, and then even take that team on to finals after the rebuild - said with a wry smile and saying something like "if i was allowed to, or if I was lucky enough, or in my dreams"

Round 1 is just not enough sample size or form to go by - given all the factors involved in 2022 having to be reformed and brought together. But arguably they had plenty of preseason to to do all this and with a professional outfit and new coaches, there shouldn't be any excuses after last season's wasteland of excuses.

Round 2 will be telling...as will the round 3 Derby...by round 4 we should know our true reality? Three home matches in a row. Regardless of the oppo quality, we should be able to use the home ground advantage to build on each game and show progress. (not talking wins or losses here)
(The Super-Mega Cheesy Meltdowns could happen after rounds 2 or 3?)

If the wheels come off and we're just a shambles without any visible progress with players, coaching and game-plan, then obviously the gloves are off with Simmo. You'd think his days were numbered?
Disappointment is palpable, look at the reams of criticism written here on round 1.
The media are already sharpening the knives...
Here's hoping we come out swinging...?

If we lose the contested possession count by 37 again this week, on our home ground, against a non - top 8 side with most of it's best players out and after all the public criticism we have copped this week then i won't need to wait for round 4 to see more. I will be ready to call it. Losing contested possession by 37 is an absolute massive number against anybody, let alone against North.

I watched a SEN thing that had the Guru Hoyne from Champion Data on. From what I understood West Coast was the only team who spent more time going backward than forward ie handpassing back and kicking back. We also spent the most time going down the line rather than attacking the corridor.

I’d like to see that broken down by quarters because I don’t think it would’ve been the case in the first quarter. Seemed like we were trying to be attacking early but just gave up on it.

I’m disappointed my question wasn’t included in the Ask Simmo segment.

I'm not of the opinion Simmo has been there too long. It's a loveless job coaching a team through a list transition and development phase. We need a seasoned coach who can deflect player criticism, absorb club criticism and create a sanctuary to nurture talent.

So many coaches get turfed before the list build is finished because of media and supporter pressure. This often seems to kick the can down the road and the next coach is gone within a couple of years.

Simmo may not be head coach when we make finals next or really challenge for a flag, but while we stock up on youth and have delicate conversations with legacy players hanging up the boots, I think he's better suited than any alternatives to be in the role. Could be why he ended up getting another year at all, as the club realised the position it was in and how long it would take to turn around.
