Rumour from a third hand corporate is this:

AFL almost sure to give us Gather Round again next year

HOWEVER

SA Govt want it guaranteed for 3-5 so they can invest and get bang for the buck so negotiations ongoing. WA very keen/jealous and want in. Concern is that they are too remote to have people all 'gather round'
WA wouldn't work from a geographical perspective. It's too far to drive for everyone else and flights would be too expensive for the average family. Unless the AFL strikes a deal with Virgin to bring in affordable flight packages, then I can't see WA being an option. NSW wouldn't work because it wouldn't be embraced there, and QLD has a bit of a distance issue too.

For the time being, I reckon it will stay here for the next 2-3 years.

AFL only deals in 50 year contracts though.

Gather round 2073 is gonna be epic

All for this. Would be fantastic for the state but obviously the novelty would start to wear off after the first couple years.

Hopefully the crows can continue to kick it off on Thursday night each year. Danger is the power getting jealous and wanting a slice.

The redevelopment at Mount Barker looks amazing and should be the standard for our suburban/rural grounds. We really should have 30-40 grounds in state at that/Karen Rolton standard

Hasn’t happened that way for the NRL gather round.. (called “magic round)

Its a pretty solid fixture up here now.

People love it.

But it is a slightly different concept in that you buy a ticket and get to see every game of the round with that ticket and every game is at the one stadium..
From what I've heard, next year is looking like a 3 game ticket - 3 at AO, 3 in the Barossa, 3 at Mt Barker.

They can have a China Gather Round

But I do think any further involvement will see Port get the Thursday. Its not a Crows initiative - its a State Gov/AFL one so fair and balanced will win out

But both teams should get prime time Thursday/Friday or Saturday

No Showdown either

I think it will be ours for a while.

The talk of other States getting it is window dressing. As it was in us "bidding" for it.

Mali and the special events team worked with the AFL to develop this.

Much like getting the Supercars back and Liv Golf. Mali was proactive in this happening and happening here.

Won't be in SA beyond next year. Can u not hear the bleating already? Hardwick set the tone .. campaigner.

Too bad about the ramping. Bread and circuses.

No way will there be a reduced crowd, the country has seen the hype and more will want to be part of it, those that came and enjoyed it will likely come back.

Plus locals like me who were indifferent will make more of an effort, I regret not getting tickets to other games now.
Exactly this

Tassie will get it at some point, prior to their own team coming in.

Actually, what better way to showcase SA football than a Showdown to kick off Gather Round and let interstaters have an experience of it?

Now, we can't really have 3 showdowns in one season and the Gather round being a neutral game (spectator ticketting wise), each club takes turns (over seasons) in having the other Showdown game as their home game, while the other club wears their home strip in the Gather round.

An element of that, but it brings more money into SA than it costs Treasury.

I would like to see the non Adelaide Oval games spread out around Mount Barker, Tanunda/Brossa and somewhere down South. McLaren Vale or Victor?

The three key tourist areas around Adelaide. Adelaide Hills, Barossa and Fleurieu Peninsula.
