I know it is only rumours at this stage, but if we could bring in Redman and Himmelberg this off season that would be massive, it would totally transform our backline. Especially if we can get them both without having to give up a draft pick.

Both of them nicely fill holes we currently have back there. Redman at 187cm replaces Smith as that rebounding defender, Himmelberg at 195cm provides that 2nd KPD to go with Murray.

Any compensation for doedee if he leaves is gonna be a second rounder at best..

no one’s offering doods a $750-800k+ a year salary which is what it takes to get band 1.

if we lose doedee and bring in Redman or HH (or both) then we wont exactly lose sleep over the loss in compo for Doedee.
Especially not geelong, he may even have to pay them.

If the offers for Doedee are in the 500-600K mark - 4 years lets say, I'd be matching it as I'd have no problems keeping him for that money, but if he wants to go, then its a trade scenario and e might get decent picks for him.

That's a bit of a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario at the moment, and one I reckon boils down to how confident are you that Worrell is the real deal? Michaelanny certainly is.

Still I imagine Doedee will end up cheaper than that. He's not exactly the player who opposition clubs would spend a lot of cash on. Not to say he isn't a good player, he just doesn't sit in a role that attracts cash. I think we retain just because of that.

[Confirmed]SA Gov pushing for 3-5 year Gather Round contract
Rumour from a third hand corporate is this:

AFL almost sure to give us Gather Round again next year

HOWEVER

SA Govt want it guaranteed for 3-5 so they can invest and get bang for the buck so negotiations ongoing. WA very keen/jealous and want in. Concern is that they are too remote to have people all 'gather round'

I am against this.

There is such a thing as too much of a good thing and for now its 100% a gimmick. My fear is we will have it next year and 50% of the crowds we saw this time turn up.

Yes its been great but the AFL should look at doing this everywhere but Victoria. That way its special every time it hits a destination and the crowds dont dwindle the following year by being lazy money grabbers and thinking the same level of support will occur each year.

Good negotiating by the Premier, the AFL has just seen how successful it’s been so they will want to repeat it. Throw in our commitment to develop community football and the AFL would be seen as walking away from it if they say no.

Perth won’t work to bring in interstators as the drive is too far and airfares will be ridiculous plus there is the issue of time zones.

Really SA is the logical choice.

No way will there be a reduced crowd, the country has seen the hype and more will want to be part of it, those that came and enjoyed it will likely come back.

Plus locals like me who were indifferent will make more of an effort, I regret not getting tickets to other games now.

Hasn’t happened that way for the NRL gather round.. (called “magic round)

Its a pretty solid fixture up here now.

People love it.

But it is a slightly different concept in that you buy a ticket and get to see every game of the round with that ticket and every game is at the one stadium..

Get us just one of them and we're instantly better.

100%. Interstate people will 'make a weekend of it' especially if they can negotiate it to coincide with victorian school holidays. If they were smart they would also schedule the showdown to open the round on the thursday night...although i like we get the extra home game as it is

If we got redman and himmelberg as FA'S...I'd be happy to put up this years and next years 1sts for pickett (with maybe a f2 coming back for points for Welsh and younger Michalanney) from melbourne. Imagine him rotating through the middle then up forward with rankine and rachele. He would perfectly compliment the fast ball movement and lethal forward structure we are building
