Hello Eagles fans!

The embedded resources below are kept up to date by the trade board mods (as much as possible – we are human after all). Enjoy!

Keys you may like to sticky this post & move it to the start of the thread (so the sticky post doesn't rotate if a post is deleted before it), or copy it to your draft thread if you have one.

Any physios or doctors on here with any insight into how debilitating bursitis of the hip would be?

I would’ve thought it would be readily suppressed during games by painkilling medication, but I’ve never had it and I’m not qualified.

I wonder how many people have a 'Welcome to West Coast: Harley Reid' thread ready to go.

Pretty painful. Either burns itself out over time or can have it injected or surgical debriedement. If it was a severe case I’m not surprised Moir had a limited impact, if it was very mild then that’s a red flag.

I can’t see Melbourne trading 6 out. We have a history of trading up or into drafts not out of them. I feel Curtin May go before our pick. If not then I want him at 6.
Have no idea of Dees plans but apparently they did offer up 6 and 11 ++ for 1.
That must have been close to tempting, especially with F1 included.

From afl.com.au today...
As AFL.com.au's Cal Twomey reported last month, the Dees offered picks No.6, No.11 and No.42, plus a future first, for the No.1 pick, but the deal was knocked back.

Other thigns I heard

  • Apparently we also met with Will Lorenz (no idea who this is not one I noticed)
  • All training will be match simulation going forward. No more kicking footballs to cones. Training program we have is a hybrid of Carltons and Western Bulldogs programs
  • Players dont do a ton of fitness work in this new training regime. It points back to the conversations Josh Dunkley had about not liking training and thinking it was a bit too easy at Western Bulldogs. Reason being is that alot of the training is more game plan and mental based. Players are expected to run and that on their own time
  • Club poached the sports psychologist group from Carlton for this year. They are Melbourne based but working with club over video calls.
  • Pyke and co will meet with AFL after AFLW season is over to ask for extra spend outside the cap. Club not happy we are hamstrung by others being too poor to afford the AFLW team.

Apologies, haven’t had time to keep up with this thread.

Imagine the day when a draftee says he’s a Gold Coast fan.

Pretty sure I heard Ryley Sanders say he is a Suns fan.

I can confirm the Will Lorenz meeting.
Dogs have been into him too, rung his school etc and Saints.

That would make sense but its North.
Think they might be aiming for 21 midfielders and Larkey in the best 22. New revolutionary strategy.

Marc McGowan from the Age/WAtoday has an interesting looking "early mail" First Round. He's usually pretty switched on.
He has Windsor, Leake, Wilson and Tholstrup going before O'Sullivan which is a bit unique...

Early mail mock draft

1. Harley Reid (West Coast)
2. Colby McKercher (North Melbourne)
3. Jed Walter (Gold Coast - matching North Melbourne bid)
4. Zane Duursma (North Melbourne)
5. Nick Watson (Hawthorn)
6. Ryley Sanders (Western Bulldogs)
7. Caleb Windsor (Melbourne)
8. James Leake (GWS)
9. Ethan Read (Gold Coast - matching Geelong bid)
10. Daniel Curtin (Geelong)
11. Nate Caddy (Essendon)

Getting all the bids into round 1?

I’m a bit concerned about this Vic Metro prospect. Seems to have had good opportunities this year (AFL Academy member and Vic Metro), and been underwhelming despite that, and without obvious excuses. Speed and strength cited by RookieMeCentral as areas of concern. I think there are better prospects than him at whichever selection we have in mind.

Not thrilled with Archie Roberts either, another Vic Metro prospect we’ve been linked to.

I hope the links to these guys are just smokescreens for other targets.

For what it’s worth, Curtin’s coach still thinks he goes 3 (Norf) or 4 (Hawks). He obviously speaks to recruiters, so he knows who’s the most keen, but doesn’t know their draft boards of course.

He hinted that the Eagles are indeed interested with a future first.

I’d be keen to get Dan, as long as we don’t overpay, which I fear we might. If we don’t get him, hopefully we at least trade up in the second round.

We need to be proactive in improving our current hand of 2 picks in the first 30.

I'm no expert but Curtin at 10 seems crazy to me

Will Lorenz started the year with minor OP, so slow start for him. But he built into the year nicely after that.
Recruiters did tell him to work on speed, but also thst his first step in traffic is exceptional. We'd be looking at him with later pick.

Disagree on Roberts, he's been a very good player.

I would be way more worried about selling our F1 if we were a middling side like Saints. Could easily get a false read on our list, cash out our F1 putting a finals finish value on it and then plummet. Basically - what Freo did getting Jackson.

The benefit for us is we're reasonably certain we will finish in the bottom handful. Therefore our pick has a "known value" and if by chance something clicks next year (won't make finals) we make out like bandits.
Not sure i agree with that.

We might be favourites for the spoon next year, but that won't be the valuation we get for out F1 if we sell it. I would say that other clubs would not be willing to pay more than the equivelant (in pick value) to pick 5 or 6 in next years draft for it. They are not going to trade something equivelant to pick 1 or 2 next year for it, even if they think we will finish last, because where would the potential upside in the trade be for them if they did that? The best possible outcome for them would be that we finish last and they get par value for what they gave us. Plus we are the ones driving the trade because we want Curtin. So that also puts us in a weaker negotiating position.

Like i say, i think if we sell F1 the most we will get is something equivelant in value to pick 6 or 7 in next years draft in return for it in order to get the deal done. And if we do that and then proceed to finish last or second last next year that will be an enormous miscalculation and loss in draft capital for us, which we can't afford.

😂 Dunkley’s first comment when he got to Brisbane is that we do more running than the Bulldogs.

I usually attend one training session a week during preseason.

Our running can be brutal.

We often do repeat 400m laps. Harry Sharp (holds the draft combine 2km record and was a national junior cross country and distance champ), can run multiple 60 sec 400m laps without blowing up.

So Sharp sets the pace, knocks out a 60 second 400 meter lap, and everyone tries to keep up. When he hits the start/finish line, there’s a 45 second rest until the next start.

So the better you can keep up with Sharp, the longer rest you get. If you can’t keep up with Sharp, you get less of a rest between laps.

I’ve watched them do 5 laps. I’ve watched them do 10 laps.

Then we’ll go in to 25m/50m/75m/100m shuttle runs.

Springfield in summer is pretty much mid to high 30’s for 3 months straight, with the occasional 40 degree week thrown in.

This is usually at the end of a training session that involves specific match sims and/or full ground match practice.
