Disagree. Before that there was Fort, McIntosh and the rest. All blanks.

They recruited Edwards for the future

We needed a ruck for the now.
We didnt replace ceglar when he retired despite stanley and blicavs both being 33 and us being aware conway has to be heavily managed (scott has said as much).

What part of this is not playing with fire?

It would have been much smarter to add cover on our list but we didnt.

I also feel like we ran back too deep and allowed them to use space at half forward for short chips. Undoes our whole intercept structure and we need to rebuild around a Humphries led future

I like Humphries but I just cant see him being a game changer yet, but in sayiing that, I wouldn''t mind Humphries coming in for Duncan, hopefully next week.
I expect Zuthrie, Stewart & Holmes to bounce back, as they have all been good this year. but the one that does concern me is Duncan. He doesn't influence games in the manner he used to.

Sam Hayes is still available- MSD?

Watching the Adam Cooney Show (Armchair Experts) and they showed the tunnelling incident where Rioli took Zuthrie's legs out from under him and copped the 100 metre penalty. Rioli wouldn't leave him alone and then Cam 'the Other' Guthrie saunters up and gives Rioli an absolute earful.

Wish I could lip-read!
How was Mitch Cleary on channel 7 saying Rioli and close had choice words and Rioli was upset.. Cleary then keen to put forward that there was nothing “discriminatory”. Seriously is this where we are getting to..

We thought Mannagh would come in to offer a bit of dash and evasiveness a bit further up the ground didn't we?

It makes sense to me... He has those attributes.

But for some reason unknown to me, we are playing him as an inside 50, forward pocket in the VFL.

I don't get it.

I'd be happy to see both Managh + Mullin pushing midfield minutes in the VFL and then AFL if shown good enough.

Could not agree more.

Sam hayes quit footy to do music or something im not sure hes even playing at local level.

But we clearly need to nudge stanley or bews to retire and take a mature ruck in the msd.
Crossley wont be picked despite his form for obvious reasons but we need to find another state league ruck who is ready (a bit like the naismith situation last year).

The tongue is a bit in cheek with my previous comment. But the main point is that our intercepting backline doesn't work if our midfield doesn't apply enough pressure to the opposition entries to make them bomb it.

If our midfield is going to continue to suck then we need to find a different backline that works best at ground level

Surely Stanley has time to get his season back up and running? He can not be banished for the next 14 weeks. Ridiculous.

It's probably true and it shows how bad our midfield crop is.

Sadly, I think our A class is B class and our B class is D class :(

Danger... almost the Goat but old, injured half the time and almost finished.
Bruhn... A kid who has got in the coaches votes once in his career.
Bowes... A guy that was playing VFL at the Suns and half the people on here didn't even think he was B22.

I agree... these are our current best mids... even ahead of Blitz, Guthrie & Atkins atm (def ahead of Parf and Clark).

And all those 3 guys didn't play tonight (ridiculous Bowes didn't IMO) + we have a guy that can't beat an egg in the ruck.

Ahhh my hopes of competing are fading.

Dare I say it... Is it "tank time"? Probs not.
The other way to look at it is those 3 in and playing out full games the past 2 weeks probably turns 2 close losses into wins, while the team is playing poorly. This side have made a game of every contest so far, without really clicking for a bunch of them.

I had no doubt you'd press the tank button the second there was turbulence, and respect your right to do that. I don't tend to get too emotional after losses. It's a very even comp at the moment, the onus is on this squad to now steady the ship. Season is well and truly alive unless you are soft.

The problem is any state league ruck will be lucky to have Conway's fitness base coming off part time footy. We saw that with how Ceglar who was completely cooked dominated VFL last year. Even Naismith who has had a full preseason looks no better than Stanley or Conway.

I'd just play Conway and occasionally Stanley when Conway needs a rest. Then decide in the lead up to finals what our best setup is and it might well be Blicavs as number 1 ruck.

As always, apt username.

Good, then we stick with Stanley, Blicavs, Conway this year, that is all. There are no gems out there in the ether.
Next year, let's see.
Correct

Next year I expect Conway to have the fitness base and Neale to be playing as second ruck. If history is a guide we'll see knevitt rucking before we trade anything in

If Danger plays we win.

Even Bowes tonight over the very not-ready Clark may have changed the result.

And because we won our first 7, sadly, I think tanking is pointless because unlike last year, we won't be shot for a top 4 draft pick.

So we just gotta man up and win the flag.

To make matters worse that cats store ripped me off. Purchased a reduced item $75 down to $50 and they charged me full price. Bastards.

And what if Rozee, and Soldo played tonight?

Without doubt the Jeremy Cameron non goal was an incorrect decision. Chris Scott went into the presser knowing the rules and made it known..

Yes we've all kicked the boots into Stanley tonight. So I imagine Scott will have more to say to him than it was just tactical. Stanley was a liability and obviously not meeting any targets anywhere on the ground, something Scott is really big on behind the scenes.
The guy has been a good servant, premiership ruckman and carried many injuries for his service. It's not like GFC to just go chop, although Bews looks gone. So I think they'll persist, hopefully get another tall in to help (Neale) until Conway is knocking the door down. It's such drainer on Blics who has his own problems.
Better get ready for a bit more frustration I'm afraid.

3 games in a row our opposition have absolutely exploited the gigantic weakness this team has and if Carlton weren't so insipid at kicking we would ave gotten smashed.

Tonight Port put the cue in the rack but the damage was done.

Teams with a half decent midfield have now seen we are absolutely gettable in the centre.

The MC and coaches have their work cut out for them. Better we put up this sort of pathetic performance now rather than during finals.

Don't know if Port put the cue in the rack, we were coming hard, but I agree our midfield is a concern.

We need to figure what we are doing in there for the remainder of the year and going forward because at the moment it's hurting us.

Conway for Stanley seems a given.
I'd give Mullin a go on ball as a tagger or in rotation. I'm a big fan as he brings something we really lack outside of Danger and that's explosiveness. Holmes can do it, and maybe should roll through there often, but he's been key off half back and I'm reluctant to see that change.
Hardie maybe, but he's a vanilla footballer IMO, and I don't really see him as an upgrade on what we have. Same goes for Clohesy but I think they both are worth looking at. Who knows they might surprise.
