As a NSW, now QLD who likes a wide variety of sports which includes AFL (though I probably dont like it as much as most people on this forum) I think the ad is crap.
It seems arrogant, full of self importance and completely rubbishing other sports, not to mention the matching of of the players...
sydney siders dont like to sign up to things (atleast in general terms) its not a tradition to go to the AFL every week, theres lots of things to do/options and sydney siders I think imo having been one most of my life, is that we like the option to do whatever takes our fancy at the time hence...
Re: Gold Coast no nickname??
I dont think Gold Coast United will be simply called Utd, be too much confusion, its the same as why you dont see Sydney FC simply getting called FC.
I think they just wussed out on the decision (they would have gotten panned no matter what nick name they came...
Re: If Sonny Bill Williams was an AFL player, how would his club & the AFL handle his departure?
Wont affect AFL in the slightest. Unless the players want to play in a different competition that is (not that there is one or another code alternative like there is for league). Salary cap will...
One would hope so :D But I still wouldn't want to face them in the finals till the grand final even if we beat them well in round 21. The grand final tends to even things out between sides (usually) and we wouldn't be playing at ANZ either...
Swans dont always play as bad as they7 do against collingwood, as long as the swans dont play them in the finals til the grand final we should be in with a pretty good chance I reckon.
I think Lyon is trying to take a total football approach (similar to sydney), if you can get everyones defending/attacking skills to similar levels you then become a very flexible team able to drag the opposition out of their prefered style and play on their weaknesses while not really having...
To be fair though vinnie, flares probably shouldn't be thrown and the toxic nature of some means its probably not to advisable to be letting them off in crowded areas either.
Soccer is an easy game to play anywhere with little need for training/skill development before you can play a game, thats why its popular in poorer countries, tie some softish stuff together and you can have a game, rules are easy too.
As for poor social values, in a weekend where 26 league...
I reckon a shorter one for minor indescretions would be useful (like holding, of course teams that want to slow the game up and give themselves time to get behind the ball could then just give away 15 odd meters for the chance to setup a defence, not really what people want happening is it?) but...
I love vics reactions to sydney:
Paul Roos a good coach? No hes got a really talented team that everyone underrates with players like goodes hall etc.
Sydney a decent team? No, love child of the AFL, protected by umpires, bunch of workman like hacks, have paul roos.
Is it just me or...
Mathews has proven he is a great coach.
Roos for my mind is great (yes i'm a swans fan but thats not what i'm basing my decision on)
He took over a team that was losing badly at the end of a season and instantly turned them round, if he had a few more games he might have got them to the...
I would liken aborigines more to eastern/southern africans rather than african americans (of course this a HUGE generalisation here with next to no back up).
To be honest I doubt race has anything to do with a persons overall sporting ability. I'd be more inclined to think their...
I reckon the main problem you'd have with any of those types of players would be endurance, aside from maybe rugby. All the american sports are way to short on endurance to be any use in AFL IMO, except maybe basketballers as ruckmen, they could do alright I reckon.
I think the studies your talking about showed that african americans tend to have a heavier frame which lends itself to sports like sprinting etc. You'd still have to put in the work though to become good at the sport.
EDIT: the talent part probably comes from early childhood experiences, if...
well looks like we'll have a winner in the NBL team. Brisbane is in trouble with its owner in the shit, sydney rumoured to be wrapping up as early as tomorrow, and i imagine shortly after the singapore/second melbourne team and the rest of the NBL.
Where would the western sydney a-league team play? Telstra stadium is way to big and costly. are there any other decent sized 20 - 25K grounds out there?
FIFA would have ultimate say as to where the final was played, so it would come down I expect as to whether or not they like the layout of the MCG as otherwise its pretty much the best stadium for it.
Another problem with this bid is that I though the stadiums used had to be able to hold at...
This is all a bit pointless really, if it was the 2022 cup then yeah we'd have a decent shot, but I cant see a european country not getting it, 3 consecutive world cups not in europe? It aint going to happen (this was the whole reason why they scrapped the rotation policy in the first place...
