I've had this same user name since 2006 waiting for the saviour to arrive!

    Round 2 trades. LOL!

I seriously don't get the criticism over broughton and danger. It's 1 game for broughts and I'd take dangers score every week. Lake on the other hand was always high risk. Defenders simply aren't reliable but you still have to buy some prems down back even though they all fluctuate.

    Schoenmakers

As a backman, he will need to be able to play against the Gorilla forwards to get a game. His height and strong frame lend itself to playing that role. Otherwise, opportunities playing forward will be very limited for him as they were for Dowler and Thorp. IMHO, I am sensing he will...

Pick 19 Isaac Smith 2010 National Draft

Drafting is all about risk / return. Smith's performances in the VFL for North Ballarat were outstanding. He brings to the table pace, pace and more pace. He loves to run and carry. He can kick a goal from 50. And he's a well balanced individual who seems to know where he's come from to...

    are we the real deal

The key indicators for mine are: 1. Game Plan - A game plan with a purpose, which all the players can execute, regardless of their level of experience is critical. Lose 1 solider and replace with another. In 2008, the defensive cluster was a trademark which all players knew how to execute...

Round One Autopsy - Disect, Discuss & Diagnose Here

Reality is, Melbourne we're abysmal. But we flogged them with heaps of stars out of our lineup. Thats all you could ask for. Hooper and Gibson are players we should all be very excited about. Our backline may, (holding my breath), be ok without Hodge in it. Boy does he look fit and...

Round 2 v Geelong. Reasons to be Optimistic

Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Bateman are our top 4 that can go toe to toe. Our next tier are capable of rotation through and holding their own: Ellis, Ladson, Shiels Our tall backs can use the footy, our half backs can use it and mix it up in the midfield and our half forwards are versatilte to...

    The torpedo punt

How often do you see a side playing keepings off around the half back line. Then after 2 or 3 passes, find they have to go back and kick long to a contest 50m away. The opposition use the period during the 2 or 3 passes to man up and close down the loose options. What usually then happens is...

Hawthorn vs North - Game Thread

6 weeks minimum not max. it takes 4-6 weeks for the fracture to become structurally sound again. then rehab. he's gotta be able to take hard knocks. Give him another month to be safe IMO. 9-12 weeks from now till he plays a senior game IMO.

    Injury news according to SEN

Sewell will be out for 2-3 months IMO in order to do proper rehab. Dont fret folks, lucky we have Josh Kennedy to put into the midfield mix.

Hawthorn vs North - Game Thread

I can say from first hand experience that if you think you've broken your collar bone, then you have broken it! Dont expect to see Sewell back till Rd 6 at best. My guess rd 9. they dont insert plates as its dangerous to have a plate in that area in the event of heavy contact. It will...

Hawks out to avenge in 2010

I'd have Shiels ahead of Murphy who is ahead of Gibson! Murphy's preseason form is better than Gibson's and given they are both 3rd tall defenders, I know who I'd choose for Rd 1 right now. Gibson needs to improve on last week big time or start the season with Box Hill. That was rubbish...

The future of the 2 Beau's?

Muston has no future with Hawthorn unless he can become a goal kicking HFF / wingman. 15-20 goals a yr (15 possies) is what is required from him. His booming right foot kick is his greatest weapon and it has to be used to score. He'll never be an accomplished decision maker, he cant...

Article - Light relief gives Hawthorn's Jordan Lewis lean slate

93 kgs is overweight for a midfielder. KPPs in the 192 to 198cm category should range from 95 to 110kgs max. Mid sized 2nd tall defenders in the 185 to 190cm category should be between 85 and 95 kgs. Most mid sized defenders that bulk up so as to play above their weight division end up...

    Reflections on the '08 Premiership

IMO: No 1 Reason we won the 08 Premiership was Preparation! Preseason, player management and development No 2 Reason we won the 08 Premiership was Game Plan / Tactics. We adapted our gameplan according to our opposition. Losing matches to the Bulldogs, StKilda and Geelong during the...

    Where should Hodge play?

Hawthorn is at it's stellar best when he's playing across half forward and midfield. 25 toughes, 8 clearances, 3 goals, 5 assists, 3 turnovers created, 5 tackles. It's the balance of posession, clearance work, goal scoring and goal creation that makes him so effective. As an attacking...

So who is the Hawk's No.2 KP Defender?

IMO, Gibson will take the gorilla types and possibly the quicker types as well. That probably makes for arguing he is our no 1 key defender. Gilham will ideally remain at FB and take the more traditional leading forward as his opponent. Shoenmakers will play the 3rd tall defender although...

The up to Round 8 go hard strategy

The middle period is the most interesting IMO. If you look back on 2008, it was a period where Hawthorns form was not as good however it played a significant part in their premiership success. It was the period where the club had the luxury of playing players in different positions or roles...

    Our plethora of forwards

Good in theory but because Franklin and Roughead are so strong and elite, they both can command 2 defenders to be stopped. A team can negate 1 forward if they command a 2nd man up, but not 2. This is the reason why our forward line is unstoppable as you cant put 2 on Franklin and on Roughead...

    Our plethora of forwards

key forward options: Franklin, Roughead, Dowler, Lisle and Shoenmakers Backups - Renouf, Skipper When you consider that a couple of yrs ago we had Franklin, Roughead and the next best was Boyle who I think is equally matched by Dowler's capabilities and Thorp and Dowler at the time were...

How good is our list at the moment?

Those that followed the Hawks 2008 season closely and every game in person would know that the zone can only be implemented successfully with a close to best 22 line up. 2 or 3 missing players from best 22 is ok but as shown during mid / late 2008, with up to 7 injuries from the best 22, the...

Realistically, where do we all think the Hawks will finish in 2010?

realistically, injuries can be the difference betwee being a big flag contender or flopping out and struggling to make the 8. every side in the afl, well almost every side has a best 22 that is pretty solid that is capable of being competitive against any side. AFL is about having the cattle...

    HFC - 'The Mini Rebuild'

One thing is certain, if you fear change, and you stand still for too long, you will definitely fail. Our club may have lost Croad, Crawford, Dew, Williams and Campbell - all worthy premiership players. But contrasting views when cosidering a season as a whole, and career and future value...

    Gameplan next year?

our gameplan will be a product of the cattle we have on the park and the consistency and stabilty of the playing group. As we stabilise our team, our game plan and defensive zoning becomes more and more effective. Defense - Gilham, Gibson, Shoenmakers, Birchall - 4 players with ability to...

    Who to play on Buddy?

Paddy Ryder makes sense. He's one of few players in the comp with the height, speed, reach and athleticism to match Buddy. But I'm hoping for McPhee :D
