That was my one experience with him.

Opinion Sack Hinkley 7 - "Turn it around or watch out"

Yeah! Ha, Bad by me. I'll still take that.

Opinion Sack Hinkley 7 - "Turn it around or watch out"

Given that missing finals, the outcome is likely the same- new coach in 2024, I want Hinkley to coach out the season and we get absolutely torched and finish bottom. That's a far more palatable outcome because we will get a new coach, Pick #1 and zero chance of Hinkley being able to manufacture...

Preview Port Adelaide vs Brisbane - Round 1 @ Adelaide Oval

Playing football for Port is what a lot of our players do in their spare time to earn the money to make wine, race cars or commit to their true passion.

Preview Port Adelaide vs Brisbane - Round 1 @ Adelaide Oval

If Brisbane stay full-throttle, it's an 8-10 goal win. Chances are they kill it as a contest by half-time and win by 4-6, which will be enough for Donuts to say is "a good performance against a Premiership contender from our young group that will keep working hard".

Opinion Sack Hinkley 7 - "Turn it around or watch out"

    Just "white noise".
  7. S.Patrol.G

Opinion Sack Hinkley 7 - "Turn it around or watch out"

It was the 'coaches' and not Ken that pushed for Rozee to be moved to the midfield. It's the same 'coaches' that continue to argue against Ken's insistence that our midfield employ a 'tagger', because it creates gaps in the defensive structure. This season, those same 'coaches', minus one that...

Opinion Sack Hinkley 7 - "Turn it around or watch out"

"connected" has become the word sporting groups use when they're happy to participate and be mates on and off the field rather than demand success and perhaps hurt someone's feelings in the process. Connect=comfortable.

    News 2023 Leadership Group Announced

Jonas and Byrne-Jones should be looking at their last year on the list. TBH, they reflect the inept nature of Hinkley and I don't care about 2023. Let's see what happens in 2024, under Carr.

    News Nathan Bassett Departs

Even that title is not correct. Bassett is actually the defence coach. He's in charge of whole-field defence, which is way more than the "back 6" these days. I think the role suits him well.

    Opinion Port's ruck strategy

I expect to see Finlayson more at CB, as he's more agile and mobile than our other options. I reckon there will be a fair bit of him, JHF, Butters and Rozee. Quick and good below their knees.

Coach Josh Carr - Midfield Coach

I stated my position early, when I said that Carr would be the next senior coach at PAFC. Who knows whether he will end up being successful? What I do know is he's had a clear vision and plan to be a senior coach. It's why he left Port and went to North Adelaide, where he won a premiership...

Preview 2022 Goodbye (To 2023) New; Preseason Discussion

"Work around a few things, not having a ruckman in there." Yep, because the bone head coach didn't select one.

Coach Lauren Arnell to join men’s coaching group

I'm not quite sure of your point? If we are appointing a coach to work in the football program and coach our young forwards in the SANFL, I would expect it be the best person. If Lauren is that person, great, but it doesn't strike me as an overly extensive search. It's particularly concerning...

Coach Lauren Arnell to join men’s coaching group

I wonder if Lauren was the most qualified and best person for the role, after an extensive application and interview process?

Opinion Sack Hinkley 7 - "Turn it around or watch out"

I've used a similar analogy in the past, when people have used the fact "the players love him" as a reason he must be a good coach. Students often "love" bad/lazy teachers, because there is no expectation and they can get away with doing less.

Opinion Sack Hinkley 7 - "Turn it around or watch out"

Ask me what I think about the senior staff at my place of employment on live radio, then ask me over a beer at the pub. What you hear will be very different. Why? I gotta pay the bills.

    Analysis Assistant Changes for 2023

Our 2024 coaching panel will be Josh Carr as Senior Coach and any of the current assistants he chooses to keep- hopefully none. I'm hoping for a new senior coach, Chairman and CEO before January, 2024. 2023 is nothing more than sitting in the waiting room- hence no other appointments.

    Analysis Assistant Changes for 2023

Lade had a major clash with Hinkley. I think Lade is a very supportive coach, and would have positive relationships with players as a mentor, but I don't think he's much beyond that.

    Analysis Assistant Changes for 2023

I'll go with: Hird to Essendon. Yze might have been recent favourite, but he was also at Hawthorn at the same time as Clarkson and Fagan. Brad Scott to Brisbane. North Melbourne to fold. As for PAFC, Hartlett is an interesting one. I was fairly confident he would stay at West and play under...

Coach Tyson Goldsack - Defensive Coach

I'm surprised. I had it on pretty good authority that it was going to be Bassett. Either something changed, or my source was wrong- which is rare.
  23. S.Patrol.G

    Analysis Assistant Changes for 2023

Getting Carr is not about getting Hinkley closer to a premiership. I still maintain that Bassett will be the SANFL coach and if that's what does happen, I think it's an excellent move- both for the AFL program and the Magpies. Only my opinion, but I think Bassett is far better suited to SANFL...
  24. S.Patrol.G

    Analysis Assistant Changes for 2023

That's a succinct way of putting it. My understanding is along similar lines- Schofield understood tactics, while Ken thought they were a small mint. As for assistants in '23, I'd say there's so much going on in the background all over the league, SANFL included. I know Francou was head-hunted...

    Analysis Assistant Changes for 2023

The end is coming, so I'm a little more interested than I have been since 2017.
  26. S.Patrol.G

    Analysis Assistant Changes for 2023

Yes and I think he will do a good job. Only my opinion, but I rate Bassett far more highly as an SANFL coach, with some scope to run his own ship, rather than being retro-fitted into a forwards coaching role at AFL level. He hates West Lakes.
  27. S.Patrol.G

    Analysis Assistant Changes for 2023

Carr his highly rated at Freo: Excellent tactician Attack-oriented High standards and expectations Demands excellence So, in summary, a professional coach, in the PAFC tradition- the kind we always had until the monorail salesman we have at the moment.
  28. S.Patrol.G

    Analysis Assistant Changes for 2023

However it's sold, whatever is said, it's no succession plan. Carr left Port to build his resume to, one day, become a senior coach. He took North to a flag, his fingerprints are all over the Freo midfield and there is absolutely zero reason he leaves Perth, and Fremantle for a sideways move...
  29. S.Patrol.G

    Analysis Assistant Changes for 2023

Carr is not moving back to Adelaide just to be an assistant. This is a clear signal he will be the next senior coach.
