Why would you take a ruck when someone with good skills, kicks on both sides and speed is available? We don't have a ruck shortage unless you think we've drafted Marshall for his good looks.
Not shortage but not the skill set we're looking for. Of the 4 genuine rucks, we've effectively delisted 2, shopped another during the trade period. Marshall is forward who can ruck.
Remembering that rucks take a long time to come on and mature.
We have a huge number of hbf types, both current and in the wings coming through.

Maybe the skill set needed more urgently is speed and skill by foot. Yep I get the ruck development part but our current rucks haven't been there that long. Neither Bill or Hick have much more than 50 games and Bill is still pretty young for a ruck.

I hope you are right. I'm getting old and impatient, when people used to be negative I'd crack the shits with them. Now I'm a miserable old campaigner that find less joy in waiting for the good times to come. I fluctuate between ridiculously pessimistic and stupidly optimistic. I'll turn up to the intra club and be full of hope again next year.

don't worry Gringo we have turned the corner ,
our young kids have the games behind them now to produce the goods - people go on about we don't have any elite players , well what are Steven , Carlisle , Roberton , Billings , Ross and you might as well add Steele , Sinclair as well because they are only going to get better and you never know about Acres , McCartin , Freeman

With White , McKenzie , Phillips , Battle , Marshall , Long waiting in the wings the only way is up.

Also we could not be better place with the addition of 4 elite kids.
Hunter - Clark gets the ball and is a elite kick
Coffield - has leadership potential with classy skill set
Claverino - a developing key defender
Paton - has speed and has good disposal
out of the 4 I really think Paton has got the build already to step up in the first year, the other 3 will be very good as well but will grow as players once they mature, so we are in a hell of a good position.

Many people doen't realize our good our players are and they could do anything next year.

Remember the momentum and when we had Brown, Jones and Smith, then Rooey and the 2000s kids. I'm absolutely starved for some of that. Right now it feels like an old car the gets on a roll, then stalls a bit, then rolls down hill a bit more then chucks a few puffs of smoke and stalls again.

I just want some massive improvement soon. I'm turning into a miserable old campaigner like Plugger 66 or Big mart.
I’ve called you our barometer previously and you’re absolutely that!
Looking forward to you next year, I’m sensing we are not far off.

We needed key back depth. Brown has a year left, Carlisle turns 27 next year & Goddard & Austin are unproven. Clavarino was the u18 AA full back & his strengths include kicking, marking, intercepting, speed & leadership. He ticks all the boxes & is a wise choose with a rather speculative pick in this years draft.

Petruccelle is an absolute headless chook & would’ve quickly become our whipping boy. Plus, he’s very unproductive & for an offensive minded player that doesn’t bode well.

Murphy is extremely speculative but given his obvious talent he would’ve also been a wise choose...for a team not requiring any further tall back depth. But he could be another Marksworth, whereas Clavarino looks just about bustproof imo. A far better prospect than H Goddard who moves like a glacier & may be an injury bust.
Agree with the start of this post, but not the speed of Clavarino v Goddard part.

Clav has elite endurance for someone his size, but lack of speed is one of the knocks I've read on him (hence testing at I think it was 3.13sec for the 20m sprint, v Goddard's 2.98sec) and he also needs to stack on a pile of kg's before he plays key position at AFL level, so that could see him become even slower. Goddard I just reckon piled on too many kg's too fast in his first preseason or two with us (reported to be up to 105kg during his 2nd preseason!), which is what saw him lose some of that speed that he clearly had in the juniors.

Just hope we have someone quick enough to play on the likes of Franklin and Jeremy Cameron going forward.

Have read that Clark is a very attacking player with ball in hand who likes to take the game on and move the ball forward. We already have a few of those in Acres, Gresham, Sinclair, Billings, Steven, etc. So add Clark to that and combined with a bunch of good kicks bringing the ball out of the back half such as Carlisle, Roberton, Savage, White, Coffield, Webster, etc and our transition and ball movement from from defence to attack has the potential to be really quick, exciting and damaging!

It all depends on the game plan and strategies that our coaches implement of course, but I would hope that this means we are able to get a lot more easy looks at goal for our forwards, which in turn may help our goal kicking accuracy problems.
Again agree with the start of this post, but with regards to the bolded, this year we apparently had the equal-4th most shots for goal in the comp and according to Champion Data very late in the year, from the 2nd-easiest spots, so we are or were already in the top 2 in the league at getting looks from really good spots. We just butchered it something shocking from there far too often.

Of course it would be great if we were even better at it, but our inaccuracy is not as a result of poor delivery or movement into the F50, if those numbers are correct.

Excited by our new recruits because I love the club , clark my favourite of the new boys. Would of liked to see us grab a player that has something different like extreme pace or freak athlete but our guys know best. Am a big fan of constable and could of got him at 35 but big boy clav looks the goods too and is a local berwick boy .

I can vouch for Paddy. Looked like a beast yesterday, his marking, leading and kicking was something to behold. He looks like a man and is bloody imposing now.

Dunstan was flying around the park yesterday, he looked quick, I would suggest he has worked hard on this area of his game - seems to have reinvented his body shape if that makes sense. Assuming that is to add some more balance to his game.

Acres is ready, as you say Paddy toys with defenders, it looked as though Acres was doing the same thing. He genuinely has me excited after losing my patience with him at times last year. Will dominate if he gets his go in the middle.

Steele finally has a preseason in front of him, I'm expecting a better spread from him this year as a result. To become a great inside out mid and keep up his tackling pressure is his game.

Newnes need to make the wing his own, and Gresh will be hopefully a 60/40 mid/fwd but showed vs Richmond if that was 30/70 it wouldn't matter as he will dominate regardless.

JB is dead set a class above. I hope we keep him roaming the forward line, he just has it, doesn't look like a kid anymore. By seasons end, I'd expect an AA selection.

Lamb yesterday frustrated me, he has it all. But pranced around like he was already on the list, fixing his hair every two minutes. He is a special player with awesome attributes that were on display, but I am not convinced that he will be a good influence on the group. It's hard to explain but let's just say if you remember Roo, think the opposite.
Which lamb is training with us?

With respect.

Reid is injury prone and will play forward

Dunne is a VFL player who could not get a game in front of Oscar McDonald .....enough said

Howe gets exposed every time he has to defend one on one particularly ground ball entry , is excellent mark when allowed free run at it..

Moore is a kid ....

Elite midfield is one that hit targets not sure pies midfield does .

Woth respect you need to watch more pies games

Knightmare being unusually complimentary of our work and giving us a "solid effort" B for our haul.

Of course Collingwood did as well as us on his ratings despite plugging their KP holes with flankers he didn't even rate.

The ball moves faster than the player. Give me blokes that can use it, not just run fast (enjoy Arden St, Mr. Hartung).

I’m personally pretty pleased with our draft haul. Significantly pleased with Coffield and Clark seems to have some real campaigner about him which I like. We weren’t far off nabbing one of the top five, but that was out of our hands anyway. Would love to get to a training session with the new boys going around soon!

Out of Clav , Goddard and Austin we should get one or two of them to be standouts in the future - you have too realize as well Logan will play this year for sure the kid couldn't get a game at Port due to getting a injury and then not able to get back in due to the players that were in the side were playing good enough not to let him back in , same reason Trengrove left. The kid is a lot better than what most people think - you will see going forward / has aready played on sme of the best forwards and not done to bad of a job.Play in 2 games this year and played on Ben Brown and Hogan.

RD 17 -NM In for the omitted Jack Hombsch, played well as a defensive group to stop Ben Brown and Majak Daw.
RD 18- Melb Had Hogan for much of the day and also spent time on Watts. Beaten early, but fought back well.
RD - 19 Bye.

RD -20 SANFL Fine response to his demotion, helping himself to 22 disposals in big win over the Panthers.
RD -21 SANFL Marked confidently and didn’t put a foot wrong against the hapless Bloods.
As you can see from the game reports he was unlucky not to be in the team - they played finals as well so they were not really a weak team.

2016 season
Coll Given job on Cloke on debut and kept him goalless. Didn’t do anything wrong either.
12 WB Struggled to come to terms with the bigger bodied Redpath.
13 Frem Big job on Pavlich and couldn’t handle it.
15 Rich Rotated between Griffiths and Vickery and wasn’t beaten.
16 Haw Copped a heavy knock to the head in the third term.
17 NM Matched on Petrie. Tore in for the ball with aggression.
18 GWS Kept Patton to one goal.
19 Bris Light on disposals but in the scheme of a massive win, it was not disastrous.
20 Syd Had hands full down back but not aided by lack of pressure further afield.
21 Melb A slight hamstring strain but still good enough to blanket Hogan.
22
Groin.
23 GCS Opposed to Lynch for parts and did OK. Suffered ankle injury in third quarter.

as you can see from his first year of AFL football playing on the big named players he didn't do to bad - was beaten by Pavilich and Redpath but being the 2nd and 3rd games he played.

the start of the 2017 season he was behind the 8 ball after injuring his ankle and had to work his way back to fitness through the SANFL , until he got a recall in round 17.

So the kid has played 13 AFL games and has played on most of the big named players and didn't do to bad and now the kid will be 22 and has huge upside , I think we have scored a winner here.
