So have we delisted McCartin, or are you just writing him off after a handful of games?

Incredible how premature some of the views about McCartin are on here.

Heard the same stuff about bj 10 years ago, Steven five years ago and Billings of late.

Please dont let them develop, just shitcan them after 2 years.

There's no harm in saying that Petracca is a far better player at this stage. He kicked 3 tonight, which Paddy had failed to do in his entire career. Both have been hit by injuries. Everyone wants Paddy to become a star and we all back him in, but taking off your Saints-coloured glasses it's clear that Petracca is the better player.

How am I writing him off? I think he will be good but we missed out on a star. He's not going to be a star simple

It's an exercise in futility comparing development timelines between midfielders and KPFs. We will all admit that Petracca is better RIGHT NOW, but right now is not when we are challenging. We have time in hand. And when we pick up some great mids in the near future, you'll find that will only help Paddy when he's getting decent delivery.

Whilst I don't agree with canning our own players, I don't think it's unfair to call the drafting decisions out for what they are. Facts are we took Billings before Bont and Paddy before Petracca. Bont and Trac are in the top few young players in the comp. Thats not up for debate I wouldn't think. At this stage Billings might be getting closer to fulfilling his talent, but Paddy is a long way off at this stage.

But clearly Paddy is the better key forward.

Yes Bont is I disagree that petracca is let's say that young is 23 or younger
Oliver
Cripps
Kelly
merret
Fantasia
Billings
Lever
Heeney
All players who are at or equal to petracca level

Paddy will become the player we all hope and expect him to be when we fill our remaining needs and continue to improve as a side. Let's be honest, kicking to our key forwards has been an issue for some time now (hi Roo!) and until that gets sorted out, of course our young key forwards will struggle to impose themselves. He has plenty to work on, yes, but I think our players up the ground need to do a lot more to help him/us perform to a much higher level

Our game plan of bomb it long & hope for a goal out the back or crumb essentially makes our key fwds decoys.
Hard work for Paddy with our lack of foot skills & current coaching philosophy.

Keep in mind that GWS have been very good trading partners of ours to this point, so I doubt that any trade for Kelly will be grossly unfair (ie. the 2 and 7 concern several posters have, myself included). They'll drive a hard bargain for a great player for sure, but could you imagine what we'd be up against trying to prise Kelly away from, say... Essendon?

Honesty is the best policy. If we are upfront and say to GWS that we need the earlier of our 1st RDPs but will will negotiate beyond that, everybody will know where they stand.

Maybe a deal would be incredibly difficult to achieve, but the relationship between the two clubs has been very good and they have been a regular and amiable trading partner.

Neither club will jeopardise future trading deals to screw the other over. Being transparent and honest at the beginning of the process is the best way to come to an accommodation everybody can accept as 'fair'.

GWS were very fair with the Jack Steele trade. They could've demanded more but were considerate to the ambitions of the lad and were a responsible trading partner.

I wouldn't blame them for demanding pick 2 (if we have it) for Kelly. We would do the same. He's a fabulous young player in his early 20s. A plum recruit.

But I hope we put barbed wire around the pick and immediately explain to them why we are doing it. Then lay our cards on the table and be fair beyond that.

Sometimes these things can be resolved in ways we least expect, maybe even via another trading partner involved in the deal. GWS may even have creative solutions that suit their long term needs beyond the solution of early draft picks.

Yes....he is a massive kick......who on here saw his massive roost at Princes Park in the pre season game......off a couple of steps and BANG....

And yes.......if we did take Petracca,we would be looking for a Paddy ......the club did say the mids would be the last get in the rebuild.....ok then Saints...foot on the pedal please !!!!!
We took Paddy before bruce kicked 50 in 1 year. If Bruce did that the year before IMO Racca would be playing for us.

All this comparing is making me ill. I for one love McCartin and as instant and impatient as we are which is fair as we are seeing the likes of other young players be very good especially being midfielders/pinch hits up forward our focus has been on spine, which therefore we are witnessing a demolishing as the game is all won from the midfield. Our focus will absolutely be on midfielders. We have the gun we just need the bullets and with our position with our picks we must deliver. I can see us turning this all around we just went with the slower option which will pay off.

Add 2 jets with kicking skills this year and see what happens. We just aren't getting clean delivery. Give him another preseason and even trim him down a few kegs.

Premature and immature.

Clowns can't see the talent that Paddy has got yet pass themselves off as talent experts after reading one of Knightmare's draft profile.

For that to happen we need to get Kelly & somehow keep pick 2. Pick 2 is premium & a difficult draft selection to stuff up. How the **** do we do that (keep 2 & get Kelly)? The war room will be having similar discussions.

I think McCartin maybe a good to very player. Petracca will be a star. We may have picked the wrong player but that's life.

I think there are options outside the square. I doubt we have the right player to trade in another first. Maybe pick 8 plus a future gets it done?

If this year's super draft us actually a spud draft then you have to weigh up if the top 5 are elite or if you spend pick 2 and try as you said get Kelly and knives.

I'm tipping we go he'll for leather for Kelly (not buying that Fyfe is out completely), then go for another low hanging fruit like Steele.

Otherwise both firsts for two guns.

If that fails, then off to the draft. I also believe if the right offer comes along, the club will deal on a contracted player.
