Yeah it’s pretty close. A few journo’s running with our first, next years second and Acres.. which was incorrect.

Sam McClure asked her what she thought was a fair deal. She said pick 6 and a future second.

That’s what we offered. It’s been widely reported. Unfortunately this wasn’t bought to her attention.

Some people aren’t overly sharp.

Give her the benefit of the doubt, she’s busy looking after her teen daughter’s children while chain smoking and yelling at Sunrise. Too busy to keep abreast of nuanced trade scenarios

According to Tom Morris Lethlean had arranged the trade with GWS days ago and said we will do if Freo dont come to the party.
Gave Freo a 9.00 am deadline to accept 6 and a future second.

At the meeting Bell said no we want 6, next years first and a third. Lethlean said nothing and left.
30 minutes later Saints and GWS swap picks.

I was paying attention and what he was asked if I remember was if pick 37 would be used for Steven, to which the answer was an unequivocal "no".

I think the salary element is a red herring and it seems like they want to flip as many of their picks as possible to get into that first round.

In short, I think the Steven deal is dead in the water and he'll probably end up playing for Lorne next year.

Correct. The first time he was asked about pick 37 he just said ‘NO’. Nothing more.

Hard to blame them. He's at a real crossroads. His timeline has been very unusual. To go from progressing very steadily to absolutely falling from a cliff the last two years is hard to fathom. If we bring in Hill and Jones along with Hanners being available it's hard to see how he gets close to the team. If he can get back to 2015-2017 form then he'd be right in the mix again. Hopefully the contract he's been offered by us is on a modest wage.

Jack Steven is going to be very interesting. Do we actually want to keep him or are we just posturing with Geelong? Have a feeling we will end up taking massive unders for him.

I hope not. Better off keeping him if we're paying the majority of his salary.

I hope the AFLPA get stuck into Geelong for providing a fairytale to a mentally compromised player then baulking. Surely not good for his health going forward

Been a massive fall from grace.. was one of the first picked to now not even getting an offer in free agency. Let’s hope it’s a wake up call and can return to some form.

This trade period has been a really bad one for the AFL so far. Compared to the amount of deals done in the first week last year, to have two done so far is a really bad first week. Needs to get back to being five days.

Ben King is happy at the Suns and has a contract in front of him. When pressed on whether King would stay at the club, Gold Coast list manager Craig Cameron said "I've got all the reason to be confident there."

Pretty obvious that Steven in his mind moved out of the Saints, so really what's the point of keeping him on our books if he is trying to be elsewhere? We don't need that kind of half-hearted commitment at the club moving forward. Just trade him for whatever and concentrate on players who want to be at the club.

Re Newnes, he's a good ordinary player, I'd absolutely keep him.

Max isn’t worth 1 and 2. In the slightest. Ben on exposed form is worth more and I’d expect a top 5 pick and a teens pick for him. Max is maybe worth pick 2 but he has a lot of unknown still about him. Is he just going to be a injury prone could be for the rest of his career? Obviously you will know more about him and how he is tracking but I’m not sure. Rowell and Anderson are to good to pass up as far as I’m concerned. So no I wouldn’t do it. Gotta back the team in to have more success next year and convince Ben to stay, as funny as all you will find that

It won’t happen but I’d do it if I was the GC.

I think you’ll loose Ben and really struggle to sign Anderson, so again you’re just treading water.
