To those saying Acres isn't best 22 - last I knew it takes more than 22 players to make a successful season. And for mine he is best 22. I'd have him ahead of Sinclair, Lonie, Kent, Parker, even Long any day of the week.

If he goes it undoes a lot of the great work the team has done in my opinion. Especially if it's not necessary to land Hill and for peanuts in return.

I was going to get worked up over Acres being thrown in as driftwood in that Hill trade but just watched a highlights package on Bytel, realised that Hunter, Battle, Marshall, Wilkie, Coff, Paton will probably take a huge leap next year, King will be an instant hit, Hill will be running wild, Howard has future AA potential and is up there with the elite in spoils and 1%ers... And then it struck me that we will be alright if losing Acres is the worst thing (outside of Steven) that eventuates this trade period.

Problem is we are undervaluing what we have on here and overvaluing what we don't.

Acres vs Jones is a prime example of that.

If Acres departs and Newnes goes as a delisted free agent. We’re going to need a new whipping boy.

Good sides don't just let talented players go because they have other talented players. That is such a flawed logic.

It's been 6 years with Blake, cream rises to the top, richo or not. I don't have him best 22 and we have to move on players that inconsistent if we want to be a contender.
I'd trade Dunstan while we're at it, someone might be fooled by his second half of the year.
Not if you keep mixing the milk like his positions

Is he a talented player though? He's no more talented than a Bradon Ellis, whom Richmond let go uncontested because they had other younger talented players ready to come through. Acres is expendable.

1. Absolutely he is more talented than Ellis. Ellis plays in one of the best sides in the modern era. Put Acres in that side and see what happens.
2. Surely you are not going to compare the deepest list in the AFL to ours?
3. We have younger talented players but we have a lot that are way way worse than Acres. We have Dean Bloody Kent on out list for God sake.

What value you possibly get in Acres isn’t in his current output. It’s in the 15-30 minutes he shows where he impacts the game like a star. His potential is through the roof and that is the most frustrating part about him. Should be a star of the league. Goes missing for weeks at a time before he impacts a quarter and disappears again.

Any St Kilda supporter will tell you how good his best is. But if your club cannot help him fulfil it. Then he is about as useful as a 4th round pick. Manage to fulfil it.... you have a sky is the limit star.
I have followed his career quite closely, TBH not sure if i am pleased or not he is thinking of coming to us,( I watch a lot of neutral games)So my understanding of opposition players is fairly sound , I totally agree with your analogy . If he can play his best over longer periods more consistently he would be a bargain at a 4th rounder . But on exposed form he is a 50 plus pick.

Yeah, Acres is talented, it's why Freo have expressed an interest. When he's on he seems to have all the time in the world in traffic while players are flying about all around him.

Injuries and inconsistency have stalled his progression somewhat.

It would take the gloss off the trade period if we did lose Acres to Freo for peanuts, getting Hill would be great and all but we'd be paying a heavy price.

If Acres then goes on to become the A grade mid/fwd he has the potential to be it will be a bitter pill to swallow knowing it should have been with us.

Brad Hill

Or

Pick 10
2nd rounder
58
Acres.

It's not even remotely close which one I'm taking. I'm over this
It's not the point

Acres has absolutely no reason to be included in the deal. Fremantle take 10 + 2020 2nd + 58 regardless.

Also anyone who doesn't have Acres in our best 22 is absolutely braindead.

Restricted free agent status though so big difference . Also Saints put him up , And where did he finish in your B&F last 2 years?
Correction , Sorry too many vanilla players thinking of Newnes(restricted free agent) ,i stand corrected ,Although Saints put him up is correct.

That's dumb and so far wrong It's not funny.

Richmond didn't attempt to match Ellis for salary reasons and were happy for him to explore free agency, similarly with us with Goddard.

Flappo what do you get out of trying to act like you are of any importance? It truly is pathetic. You know absolutely zero. You must lead a very sad existence if this is how you get your kicks.

I've absolutely had enough. I wish the mods would stop allowing your crap but for some reason they do. Blatant trolling and watch me cop a ban for finally having enough of it and calling you out.
Settle down, it's just football. Even if he knows nothing you don't have to be an abusive prick, just put him on ignore or something. Getting a bit ridiculous, people will start heading back to SS if this elitist crap keeps up.

Could Acres have asked for a trade home anyway?
Wasn't he part of the original offering?
It looks it, he looks to have seen the writing on the wall...

Sorry Guys, I know he's the GOAT and all, but apart from braking a tackle once every 5 games and creating a flashy moment, he's slow of mind and of reaction, not a forceful guy for his size and while I know every talks a out letting him lose inside, overtime he's in the middle we lose the ball because he's out of position. Im not fused about him going...

Its the price for Hill that worries me more. I would be really pushing for the dogs 13 after this. Apparently ridiculous demands are normal this year!

Yeah probably going to be something we agree to disagree on.

But to address point 1) Acres doesn't even get a run in Richmond.

2) And you said 'good teams don't let talented players go' so I used the best team as an example. If I wanted to use a middle of the road team I could have used last year's Adelaide team and said the same for them letting Cam Ellis-Yeoman go to Brisbane for SFA.

3) I actually agree with you. Acres isn't the worst on our list. He would have been okay for depth, but ultimately he's been inconsistent and had plenty of opportunity. If he stays, maybe he could be something under Ratten but maybe not as well. On what I've seen so far, he can be replaced with what we already have. If he was valued as high as some are saying on here by the people that matter at St Kilda then there's no way he's allowed to walk to Freo.

Thinking about this more today the only other thing that would make sense is if freo are involved with us in a later trade where there's a pick swap on the cards which is where acres comes in. It allows bell to save face and we get something ok for acres
