If Blake enables the club to bring in a talented player who can improve the team every time they play then he would have fulfilled his potential to the best of his ability.

Seemed in good spirit , He played one decent game and looked like me . How do you know he would even get on the park if he was with us next year , he may not even get on the park for themSorry, but I don't get the Geelong taking a huge risk part. Jack played the last 3 games for the year and seemed in good spirit. If he wasn't in a good place then we wouldn't have played him. People are talking like he missed the whole year.
I'm far from a MH expert and realise his circumstances can change but I'd back Stuv to be in the Cats Round 1 team and finish top 10 in their B & F. Won't be a bad return for a paying a bag of peanuts and having help with his salary.
NarWe essentially are giving up 2 first rounders though...
2nd and Blake would probably fetch a mid - late first.
Let's not forget Acres WAS a first round pick.
Horrible return for Hill.
Maybe we should put a clause he can't play against us then we're all happySeemed in good spirit , He played one decent game and looked like me . How do you know he would even get on the park if he was with us next year , he may not even get on the park for them
What risk?absolute garbage. Geelong taking a huge risk with Steven. We will get what he’s worth, which isn’t much, and we are only paying about one quarter of his wage for one year.
That's what we told him when he was first drafted, 'we're gonna train you up blake, give you the best coaching in the biz, make you the player you want to become... so one day we can trade you for overs to freo for brad hill. Now, time to run your 3k.'If Blake enables the club to bring in a talented player who can improve the team every time they play then he would have fulfilled his potential to the best of his ability.
Well, he did.People are talking like he missed the whole year.
Correct.If they’re paying 3/4 of his $750k salary and he doesn’t play.
There will be a sweet spot somewhere that could see some seriously big gains, maybe 15+ places. With a 3rd rounder and two 4ths next year, we will have a nice opportunity to move up the draft with the amount of clubs looking for academy picks.
Means we get nothing for him. He either signs the contract we put in front of him or he doesn’t sign it and walks to blues as a DFAI might have an ITK here... Hearing from a source that Carlton are into Newnes....

Looks like the best mates club will be splitting up Acres/Marshall/Dunstan/Steele and a few more could find themselves on the chopping block in Newnes/Lonie/McCartin/Sinclair.
Far too long we have accepted mediocrity and used the 'young side' speech when our development has been questioned. This is the first time over the last 17 years of following this club that i can say we have been ruthless in the way we operate. Previously it was careless.
As we have seen this trade period, how we value players and what they are actually worth on the open market are polar opposites. Newnes as an example has been a mainstay in our 18 for the past 8 years. Not 1 club touched him for free! that tells you everything you need to know about our level of performance and no wonder we haven't made the finals in years.

Only way we get compensated is if he signs the contract and then we trade him. That’s not going to happen
So we keep guys that are good blokes because they want to be there? We have been very lucky with player retention and loyalty for a long, long time. Not since pretty much Heath Black have we traded someone who doesn't want to be there...
All of a sudden Stuv wants out AND we are forcing Acres and most likely Bruce out too? Imo setting a a dangerous precedence trading players who want to play for us and have been the utmost loyal to us.

Love Stuv, love Bruce, love Goat.So we keep guys that are good blokes because they want to be there?
We've just freed up over $2m cap space trading those three out.
One doesn't want to be there, another we see as replaceable and another not best 22.
Sometimes you have to make tough decisions
We are starting to look a bit like Hawthorn.
So you would rather keep Steven then. That's an odd point to make. Or is your point that the Brownlow is not the best measure of a player. And still got as many Brownlow votes as Brad Hill.
But wasn’t Blacres was our only really big bodied mid?Brucey and Blacres are two of my absolute faves but I can't melt over what's happening. We have competent people running the club now so I'm sure they're working all this out.
Butler in means we have plenty of small forward coverage so that leads me to think that Gresh stays mainly mid next year. So these are the following midfield players ahead of Blake:
Hanners, Billings, Steele, Hill, Gresh, Seb, Clark, Dunstan (a role player yes, but does that role pretty well). We also have Bytel yet to debut who was very highly rates before his injury; and if Zones comes in (presumably to play mainly HBF and mid) then we have up to 10 players ahead of Blake.
I think it's clear that the list managers have realised that either one or both of Blacres and Sincs are probably going to be surplus to requirements next year and have acted accordingly.
