That's right. So what happened to the war chest when we were paying the same last year.

Next year paddy will be off the books, maybe Jake too. I heard that Seb is on a million plus too.

Let's ask the many accountants here? What's the go lads??
Them's fighting words Scrappy!

I just find it amazing that for years we've been hearing about the big war chest and front loading contracts.

Even during the trade period we were chest beating about the front loading of everyone.

Then we get the bruce, stuv and acres trades and we are justifying them on here by saying it's a salary dump!

Like so we were front loading stuv and bruce our two biggest earners with hanners excluded and then we're like yeah nah we are salary dumping them now!

It can't be both!!!! So what is it?

With Gallagers back ground as a top line banker our salary cap will be in good hands now , that's one thing good about the club now we have professional's running the club.

Carlisle hitting the trigger for his contract has put pressure on him to perform this year , knowing if he wants another good contract he has to show the form he was recruited for - hopefully it benefit's the team in a big way.
Having a fit and inform Carlisle will be a major factor in how far we go next year and Hannebery as well.

We're minted nex year imo. It's just a guess though. I only have one bank account. ...

DR are you going to change your name since Newnes is going to Carlton
Apparently since changing his name to DoctorNewnes his attendance at work has been exemplary!
But due to complaints from patients about his decision making being very average, and when it came
Time for him to offer a proper diagnosis he went all soft!

The hospital has decided that his care factor was very low, so they came up with a financial package to suit!

Still think $3.50 an hour was a little harsh!

Really the Steven trade was done because of the unknown about will he even front up next year - a lot of water to go under the bridge there , Geelong are hyping him up but it could all come tumbling down very quickly.

Bruce and Acres where moved for trade reasons not money problems - to bring in 5 players we needed more than pick 6 and 55.

That's not what I was saying though. On here people said a positive of the trades was the salary dump we were going to get.

I'm merely asking is it a salary dump or did we front load their contracts? Because the statements made this trade period completely contradict the statements made for the last 5 years!!!!

Acres reportedly on 550k in 2020.

We have the spare space. This year its being used to pay Paddy and Stuv and front load others.

We've got to make finals first to attract FAs, and we've nailed our trades this year help the cause.
One piece at a time.

So right premo. But the fact we took such a low price for them kinda says they weren't in out plans going forward. It was all about the objective.

With regards to Acres, I dont think it was a salary dump in terms of needed to clear his salary to fit in other players. It was more we didnt want to be paying someone we forecast playing a lot of VFL next season 550k so get that off our books was a big positive for us.

It then gives us an extra 550k to help renegotiate and reshape some contracts to clear space in future years.

Another thing on cap space, dont we have the ability to pay 105% of the salary cap this season (and last season) since we banked our cap space in 17 and 18? Maybe thats why there are such inflated numbers regarding what we are paying Hill despite multiple denials he is getting that much. The figure of 900k might be correct for what he is getting next season, but in three years time his salary might be 500k?

Was continually downplayed by the group I hang around with , we escaped round 1 , got the drug cheats & dees
at a very good time , won close low scoring games without being very convincing for the majority of games

Adelaide debacle early in the year was a true reflection , we struggled to score pretty much all year .
and defended poorly ( injuries didn’t help )
I could do with the group you hang with Stewie!
F#ck knows it doesn't take much for my good self to be swept up into a vortex of fantasy and good vibes! 🥳

Could do with them in my personal life too tbh! 😟

We are doing what will forever be known as a Newnsey!

Taking a massive Dump on the salary war chest! 😆
Hey hey.....Yeah that's right you love it b!tches!

On behalf of all the good folk on BigFooty i humbly apologise! :flushed:

The players we lost were 3 of my favorites but really if you look at what we lost in terms of our future.

Steven a club champion , however turning 30 and having problems - long term I feel it most probably worked out for the better.
Any player to keep playing into their 30s as a midfielder has to be very dedicated and has to be fit.

Bruce is a great contested mark , however for a guy who has played as a key forward and has only kicked a bag of 6 as his biggest haul and that was this year, doesn't make him some outstanding forward and for what we got for him which was something around the 30 mark , might be his value (at 27 we are selling him at his peak).
Hopefully he kills it for the Dogs - he could well have a season like Tom McDonald had for the Demons the year before last. but we needed a change and if we want to improve we have to be blooding Battle and Max King forward ,so I can fully see why he was excess and he helped us secure the trades we wanted.

Acres was the only guy I felt who had more upside who we let go , but was it only hope I don't know , we will soon find out this year.

Aren't you agreeing with me? Its good to get a half million vfl player off the books?
Not that it was necessary, but there's Paddy's payout for example. .
I guess. I was just pointing out that despite plenty of comments on here and in the media that we needed to get rid of the salary of Bruce, Steven and Acres to be able to financially afford our new recruits, its was more that we just didn't want to pay Acres that amount so we moved him on.

I knew we were talking about the same thing Brutus.
I paid short shrift to those comments from the start. Complete rubbish from a commentator of some sort. I can't even remember who it was.

I really think employing a banker to manage our accounts might have been a good move now..

Personally don’t think Acres was going , offered up early as option .
Bell stated he wanted picks , hence why Blake was peeved in the end total afterthought by Bell
wanted everything his way after being made to look a goose early on .

We weren’t chest beating in my opinion ,in fact Bell immediately the trade went down was the one
jumping on media telling the world .
The commentary from Lethlean & the banker over the period was first class as opposed to Bell &
Wells who conducted themselves in a different manner .

Since we we're able to get our trades done anyway, we've come out of the period looking first class.
Lethers, Gags n Gubby conducting themselves like total pros.

The golden turd award goes to Chris Scott.
Sos and Dodo duking it out for 2nd worst.

I think you’ve nailed it.

Freo were originally all about wanting the picks throughout the week. Unfortunately for Blake, he became Bell’s “face saver” in the end.

I can't help thinking the Saints have to become better poker players.
With Hill contracted , the worst thing was that the news got out that Hill was totally committed to the Saints and we were totally committed to him.
It should have been more a case of " uh we heard that guy there desperately wants to return to Victoria, we can take him off your hands if the deal is right".

I still can't believe he is worth more than a single first round pick.
