What would Higgins be worth? I look at it as similar to the Jordan Lewis from Hawthorn trade, who was 30 at the time.

That ended up being picks 48 and 66 for Lewis, pick 57 and 68. North might ideally want a more favourable trade but when your telling a 32 year old he can go explore his options, they aren't putting themselves in a good position to be getting anything back.

They are going to need players and players who can kick. Could we tempt them in a Jimmy Webster?
I would offer Savage, Roberton and Webster.
Robbo not a silly idea. Their coaching department is bereft and he's spent the last 2 years learning the trade.

putting aside how bat shit crazy north's list management is. i think we might finally have seen how clubs can exercise power over the players.

since free agency was introduced clubs and supporters have complained about how the clubs do not have the same power. there was talk that clubs should be able to trade players without their consent.

but tbh after watching north melbourne and how we handled the acres situation. maybe we are seeing it happen now. where clubs just tell the player they don't want them. which makes the player and their manager find them a new home.

so it's kind of already started to happen.

Watching him play this year, Steven should retire. Football has gone past him and he doesnt look anywhere close to the player he was.

With everyone they are rumoured to be bringing in, he wouldnt be in their best 22 next year. And it would be sad watching him play VFL.

On the contrary, i think the cats have been holding him back and building his fitness base so he can be a real contributor in finals.

He's been playing only a bit over half a game when he does play- and been racking up stats at a decent clip.

I think the cats learned their lesson last year with GAJ- burning him out during the season so he was cooked come finals.

I think steven and GAJ have both been nursed through the year so they can perform much better now.

Purple talking about us being interested in ben brown.

I just can’t see how he’s a fit for us, I like the big guy he’s one of my favourite non saints but I really hope it’s just purple talking rubbish.

agree. that one i don't get. isn't that what we want King for?

Damo Barrett reckons were “observing the situation” with Ben brown and we could be active in this space. Not sure if we need tbh but could come cheap in terms of picks

sounds like we are feigning interest to put pressure on the real interested party

I think the good thing about Higgins is his versatility. Could easily play four different positions so he wouldn't need to take young players' midfield minutes.
Any position he fills will effect the younger players , half back , half forward , midfield - he could well win the brownlow next year but at 33 I doubt it.

If we can't get the big fish we want get him for sure because having him will be better than a Lonie , Kent , Geary and Sinclair.

I wouldn't be disappointed if we got him , however I really want that Josh Kelly , Taranto type with Caldwell.

We are now a distination club and it's only early anyone could be on the market we all know GWS have to many beast midfielders and all can't play the same role - Hooper , Tom Green , Taranto , Ward and Melbourne are in the same boat with Brayshaw , Oliver , Viney , Pettraca.

Once Daniher , Ben Brown and Cameron are moved into new clubs you will see players coming onto the market which you would think would not be moved.
Magpies would most probably move a good player to get Cameron
Demons are in need of a forward and Brown , Cameron or Daniher would fit needing them to move a good player for cap space.

Heaps to happen and I wouldn't jump at the first fish when the next fish could be 10 x bigger

Sounds like he's just making s*** up.

Despite what some nuffies might think, Brown is a high priced trade.
Even at bargain price it would stop us from doing the more responsible trades that we need to do.

Between Gubby and Gag's we'll have our finger in a lot of pies. We're "observing" effing everything..

North are really rolling the dice, if this ends badly it will be hello Tasmania goodbye North.

I can‘t figure out how they’ve done anything other than drive down the trade value of several players and made themselves a no go zone for player managers. They’ll probably end up paying a good slice of the salary of some of these guys as well, I’d be looking at that if I was the AFL given that their actually paying.

It’s hard to see much of a market for these guys, they could end up being lucky to get anything worth having for them.

Exactly right. It’s amateur hour there. Player Managers will want their clients to avoid North as a club, they won’t be able to attract players going forward, and they are destroying the trade value of some very good players.

In addition, they are cleaning out almost all of their experienced players with more (like Shaun Higgins) yet to come. They will be left with a team of kids, rejected hacks, and a few senior players.

I can’t see them being competitive for quite a while. They are starting to look like Fitzroy after 1994 when they lost Roos, Armstrong, Broderick, Lynch, Osborne and Lyon very quickly. They were non-competitive in 1995 and 1996 before they folded.

The AFL would be very worried.

The only interest we should have in observing the Brown process is what they are interested in receiving for him, as it might guide some of the other players of interest such as Higgins. Would personally be watching the Polec process closer for Higgins price comparisons but anyway.

Or very happy as they might be searching for a club to merge/send down to make Tassie team and they already have a footprint down there.

There are worse players that we have been attached to. Hard to see how we'd play him though.

We do need some key forward and/or post-Ryder depth, which does not appear to be on our list at the moment.

Whether we want to replicate the Ryder/Marshall formula or intend on reverting to Marshall as number 1 ruck post-Ryder, we are going to need either (a) an elite young ruck to free up Marshall to continue his current role; or (b) a forward/ruck to allow Marshall to play number 1 ruck; or (c) a pure key forward to allow King to play as Marshall's back up. One way or another, we have a list hole there which will need to be filled within the next 12 months or so. I don't think Brown is the answer though.

So who are we putting on the trade table this year and who will be told to look elsewhere?
There are a number who didn't get a look in this year. Do a majority of them look elsewhere or do we hold a number back for next year?

For this reason any player is get-table because the football clubs chew you up and spit you out.

Ben Brown a classic example , has given everything to that club and now turfed out.
Any player who doesn't go for there best contract should just move to the club that offers it.

Cameron would be the cream to top off the list - but we still need the meat and potato's midfielder to help Steele
