Robbo and Webster are both better and more flexible players when fit than Geary and Savage no question in my mind. There's a reason we signed Robbo for such a good deal last time maybe we should give him more than 1 season interrupted by covid to make a comeback to AFL?

I don't think we'll have much of a choice with Robbo... his $700k contract plus health queries make him pretty much untradeable.

Greetings, I come in peace.
We've been having a discussion over on our board about a potential trade for Higgins, and I'm not sure if my rose tinted glasses are impairing my vision on this one, but let me know what you think.

Richmond gives: Higgins and Pick 21 (was 19)
St Kilda gives: Pick 17 (was 15)

The consensus on our board that it wasn't fair for us, for only a four spot upgrade. I believe its fair because those four spots could be crucial depending on who is available.

Don't flame me please lol

Only sticking point is st Kilda might want to use the first rounder so they have flexibility next year. Other than that it’s a fair deal.

This keeps us in the first round since pick 21 is still considered a first round pick, so I'd absolutely jump at this. Definitely wouldn't worry about rose-tinted glasses offering us this deal, assuming you could continue to wheel and deal your way up the draft board (maybe with the Dogs) I'd say it could be a win/win option.

I'm sure that's something for them as a couple and no one else's business.
The saints only concern should be around his ability to commit to a contract with us for the next five years.
Don’t disagree with you. Just pointing out the hypocrisy.

I think it

still is a first rounder though. BrutThough just replying to your post as well.

i'm pretty sure that's what our Richmond poster is suggesting is a swap of FR picks and we get Higgins - that is ridiculously in our favour. Just goes to show how much more reasonable Richmond are to deal with than say Essendon.

his only got one year left so it's not that bad and hopefully the contract was front loaded , so could be on a lot less on his last year.
I dont recon it matters anyway - we need a few guys on big $$ - Robbo, hanners, ?? - coming off in the next few years to be able to retain our current up and coming young stars on higher wages - also need some extra for maybe Ben King - I recon thats why will need to use our first rounder this year to give us options next year for him

Yeh it's kind of a form of discipline to ensure that we don't use up all our big payments on the nice new shiny object right in front of us. Having some money tied up for a couple more years will ensure we're in a good spot for retention.

Yeah this is what I was hoping we would do as the Dogs dont need pick 14, as it will just get eaten up for JUH.

Who knows what will happen though, there are more intelligent people dealing with this at club land then some pleb on BigFooty (me).

I am a huge fan of Robbo and Webster and would absolutely love to seem them fully fit and firing in our current squad. I just don't believe it is possible.

Not many players can come back from three years out of the game like Robbo has essentially had.

Not many players 10+ games a season for the first 8 years of their career and then become more durable.

Would rather them both than Savage and Geary in a perfect world, but I would have more confidence in Geary and Savage being ready to step up when called upon that I would have in the two more talented players.

If it is going to cost $1m more per year to have Robbo and Webster as our depth than Savage and Geary... I would much rather free up the cap space.

Now for those concerned about the disposal of crouch or treloar I raise you 1 Dunkley.
Absolutely hacks it.

Maybe that was Luke Beveridges logic...he kicks like a ruckman so let’s play him in the ruck.

I may be wrong, but I think our first round pick is off limits unless we can secure another one somehow. We need to use one this year so we can trade next years for potential B.King.

again, I may be mistaken.

Remember that the rule to use 2 in 4 years is not rigid. The intent was so that clubs would not fritter away their first rounds on good players with limited years left.

If trading in for a young player like King I cannot see the AFL enforcing it as King would be a long-term acquisition.

Other clubs have had it waived.

You have far more confidence in the AFL being a competent organisation than I have

I'm pretty excited about crouch.

He has the tools to be truly elite- his first few years before getting OP he looked almost as good as jaeger did pre injury.

If he has a good injury run and really knuckles down and applies himself he is every chance to be our lachie neale.

Don't quite know what Clavarino has done to be considered depth ahead of Joyce besides not showing us he is bad by not playing

Going by comments coming out of the club. Seems like he was the one impressing in scratch matches and being talked about as having a future. I literally forget Joyce is on our list.

I don't think Ratts, Lethers etc. have any interest in him going forward.
