Lethlean’s comments on Treloar this morning suggested to me we are interested if the Pies get desperate and can’t find a suitor that is willing to give up a decent pick - in which case they can give us a shout.

No idea where our cap is and if we have space to split it (or if the pies do) like this:
2021: $1.5mil (pies pay $500k)
2022: $1.5mil (pies pay $500k)
2023-2025: $500k per year

Total is $4.5mil as per his current deal with Pies paying $1mil of that (as opposed to $1.5mil at 300k x 5 years). I’m assuming he is on $900k x 5 now.

But can we push to $1mil per year for the next 2 and still re-sign the following players who come OOC in the next 2 years?
- Clark
- Billings
- Coffield

With Billings we will need enough cap space to match a free agency bid from Essendon.

The more I think about, the more Collingwood is stuffed with the Treloar situation. I've got no idea which club he goes to, but Collingwood is going to have to settle for huge unders, both picks wise and salary wise. If their cap is as full as it sounds like, then keeping him for another year would be a disaster for him. It already seems like they're not going to be able to find a suitor this year to take on his whole salary. If they wait another year and alternative clubs miss out on that year of his footy in his prime, it'd be a very tough sell finding a club that was keen, unless Collingwood paid 350+ a year of his annual salary. I imagine he'll privately nominate a club eventually and Collingwood will have to cop a pick that is well below his value as well as paying 200=250k a year of his salary.

All hypotheticals at the moment, but if a Trealor thing magically happened, who do we move on to make way, rumours about Ross may have to come to pass, I doubt many people would oppose losing Ross to gain a Trealor. But who else would potentially need to go?

Maybe a J-Web or Robbo as well, given that with Crouch and Trealor in Clark may have another year at half back, not the worst as he kills it there.
The lonie rumours... sure but that's not much space given he gets a 1 year contract at a time.
Would we need to lose another best 22 player? I'd be open to it, depending on who it is.

Bringing in Crouch and Trealor would be massive and give us one of the better midfields in the comp, so could be worth the risk. Just not sure who else we could part with to keep us above the ledger.

Bill I think it's time you to fess up which member of your family did what with Hanners in the cubicles at Revolver..

Ha ha, I dont rate him. Guilty.

Not saying he is terrible, he does everything well without really being great at anything. A little undersized, a little slow, disposal is okay but not awesome, not a contested beast, can't play other roles.

Just a good soldier at this stage of his career. I honestly think out young talented list is going to blow right past him if they haven't already.

Was a bizarre trade for mine, particularly as he didn't feel an obvious need, either outside speed or a contested pig.

He has played about a dozen games over 2 years, just don't get how people see this as anything other than a poor trade at 800k.

Can somebody please explain to me why our 2020 gear was red, white and grey?

Did someone just forget to tell them it is meant to be white (not grey)?
For a club with the sexiest colours we have some terrible looking apparel. Polo should be predominantly black, not with a slab of grey in the middle.

Fall out of contract and nominate your club... how often does it fail?

i'm not saying he won't leave or won't get to his club

i am saying there is no guarantee he will nominate us. his management might like the idea of having the two brothers playing for two victorian clubs. if something goes bad at one they use the sibling angle to get the other across.

Why wouldn't he have shown more interest in leaving after his first contract like Caldwell is doing right now?

Or did I miss something that's causing so many to be extremely confident about him coming here next year?

It failed initially due to Gold Coast paying him a wage way ahead of what he is worth at his age and the AFL throwing ambassador money on top of that to get him to stay.

Not sure why there is so much confidence he definitely chooses to come to Saints if he leaves though. He might enjoy being his own man instead of 2nd fiddle to Max. No idea where his head is at with it.

Going to leave this here. Pay attention from 45 seconds...

Just wow.

That's all news. So it's 5 years, not 4+1. It's $500k, not 600-800k. And it's backended.

I'm surprised by the last point, are we heading for cap capacity now? All our kids will get pay rises in a few years, hopefully this backended deal doesn't come back to bite.

Has he slept with someones partner or stolen stuff?

Well I don't know about you, but there's no way I'd like to stay at a club where they are quite obviously and publically trying to get rid of you.

Its a good feeling have a first class management team
If it is possible to get Treloar i say go for it, as long as, we ourselves dont get into the same situation that Collingwood find themselves, like we have in the past.
