So our wish list is getting a KPD, a ruckman and an inside mid in that order presumably.

With the top 15-20 picks being so midfield heavy in the view of the experts, which other clubs are vying for that crucial key defender that are ahead of us in the draft?

Gibcus would be an absolute steal if we could get him but I feel like Adelaide and St Kilda would be two clubs in the same dire need as us for a KDP.

We hope that we can get as much from Hickey next year as this yearZ

Lipinski from the Dogs is the inside mid we are targeting and take Gibcus as the young KPD we are looking for.

If we make finals getting Gibcus will be a stretch. The Giants will likely have two picks before us and they need a long term replacement for Davis.

Stupid not to go for parish

Also imo would give up quiet a few on the list that are not consistent living to up to it which is quite a few.

Yeah I mean he's a top 3 player in the comp right now so I'd give up about 75% of our list for Parish. Unfortunately so would every club likely, and some of them are better placed to get him I think.

Parish is a beneficiary of injuries and could finally show what he can do as the main man.

Yeah we might get belted here and there, but I would really like to see JPK/Parker not be the focal points. We won more than we lost with JPK out last year and Hewett playing as the main inside mid. Parish looked just average, until he was allowed to play. Give Hewett or another mid a chance imo

8. Matthew Roberts
9. Josh Rachele
10. Campbell Chesser
11. Ben Hobbs
12. Matthew Johnson
13. Ned Long
14. Josh Goater

Pulled from Davos top 50.

Would be happy with any from 8-14 for our first as it stands.

For our second
Soligo
Bazzo

Looks like good depth this draft. Not as much top end talent outside of Daicos, Darcy and Horne at this stage

Blues board think they're into Gibcus pretty hard too. Looks like he won't drop enough to be a Swan

if we're looking to trade in a midfielder..
Josh Kelly, Jacob Hopper, Tom Green are all out of contract at GWS
Kelly just needs to sign the trigger.. which is worth around $1m / year
Hopper 24yo is a gun.. worth $750+ ??
Green 20yo will be a gun if not already.. will be asking $250 - $400k ??

GWS cant afford to keep all three
Id happily take Green or Hopper

Both Green and Hopper would be amazing, but Green would be liking trying to pry out Gulden or Campbell from us, whereas Hopper has finished top 5 in their b&f 2 years in a row and is having an outstanding season. Those 2 players are probably in GWS top 8 most important players.

Kelly would just Hamstring the list at this point imo. We need a consistent player if we going to pay Superstar bucks.

Lipiniski though is a midfielder that can get barely anytime in the best midfield in the league. He's got great skills and seems to match the type of gameplan that we are trying to go for. Wouldn't be upset at all to nab him.

IMO we don't need a gun mid as I think it's possible we have a few for the future on our list already. The quality is there but I'm not convinced the depth is, so adding young but less expensive mids to our list, like Lipinski, is the way to go. At least in my opinion.

Im not suggesting we should chase Kelly.. but if he re-signs (which is easy for him to do), he won't be the only Giant on the BIG $$$. Coniglio, Toby Green + others - Whitfield, Toronto etc etc etc. Something has to give. Both Hopper and Green will be wanting a big pay rise.

I reckon Green could be gettable, He grew up in Canberra and may not be as close to the club as you think.
Hopper is in their leadership group..
add to this midfield group, Bruhn, Angwin, Stone, O'Halloran - all 1st round picks from the last couple of drafts and all contracted least until the end of 2022
Ash who was p4 in 2019 has signed a 2 year extension. Green who was picked just after him still has not resigned. Could be that GWS are waiting on Kelly to see if they can afford another midfielder

like I said, Something has to give

Fair enough. I love how Green goes about it, although I'm not 100% convinced he's the right fit for us.

If we can get him though, 100% go for it.

Just don't think GWS would let those 2 go.

JPK won't contribute much next year. Parker and Hewett both remain un-signed. I had a feeling the other day that Parker may choose bigger $$ at another club (was just a feeling and very likely to be wrong), Also think Hewett may go.
in this scenario, Mills would be left to do most of the heavy lifting... He'll need more help than our young mids can offer next year
Im not seeing guns in the Swans midfield, rather I'm seeing alot of very good players, Im backing the group more than the individual.
Dont get me wrong, Im a massive fan of Mills, Rowbum, Warner, Florent, Stephens, JMac, Campbell... but reckon Tom Green is a better inside mid, and Hopper could offer alot especially if there's little of JPK, no Hewett and maybe (unlikely) no Parker.

and.. If we could get Lipinski then great. played 50 games, has a few years into his body, Beatson would know exactly what we're getting, and could play another 200 games for the Swans.

He's very clean, wins alot of the ball, has excellent disposal and reads the game well. add to that he's 190+cm and 90+kg. strong, powerful and increasing his endurance every week.
Reckon he'd fit in pretty well.. reckon he'd fit in to any midfield pretty well.

I don't disagree SGB but all I will say is I have a feeling you're gonna be pleasantly surprised by a few on our list in 2-3 years time...

Mills, Rowbottom and Warner
Big fan of all three and look forward to watching then play the next 200 games for the Swans..
Mills is a very good player, but without looking I imagine theres a few mids of similar age/experince including 3 x bombers.. Merret, McGrath, Parish who have better numbers. How many 'All Australians' will Mills get?
Same can be said about Rowbum and Warner.
You rate those three, Punts rates Warner and JMac, I rate Stephens and Campbell as our best chance of All Australians (thats not to say Mills, Rowbum, Warner, JMac, Florent won't become AA).
Reckon Stephens has the ability to get 30+ and use the ball well. He's very quick and has very good endurance. Hes just undersized at the moment.
Campbell just has fantastic speed and skills!

Post Parker, JPK, Hewett,, I reckon the midfield group is lacking a clean, strong, powerful, 30+ possession winning clearance king. ie. an Elite Inside Mid
If (a big If) Hewett and Parker aren't Swans next year, then Mills will need help. Both Green and Hopper could offer that help.

Not saying we should or shouldn't.. truth is Ive no idea of what the Swans are thinking or what position they're in with the salary cap, or how gettable certain players are. Any midfield changes needs to be put in context with the needs of the back 6, the needs of a Ruck and the needs of a tall forward to replace Buddy and Reid.
Watching the next couple of trade periods with interest.
