Unless Brady has something big up his sleeve, I think we can expect to see Atley and Dumont return next year. If the Macpherson and Xerri talk is correct, then we're going to have a lot of list spots available and not a lot of great draft picks to fill them with.

I really don't care, but I'd be

Its not a need, but it would have been nice to have gotten pick 19. It would have given us 3 picks in the top 20, something we've never had.

I think Dylan Smith, Daniel Harris and Daniel Motlop were all top 20 the year we drafted them

Because we don't need to be publicly bombastic about it. It is the elephant in the room everyone knows about and I am sure it has been mentioned in private more than a few times.

They don't need to mention anything. Everyone knows what picks everyone else has - all the rest of it is public PR and media fluff to keep people clicking. Every single team in the league will be assuming that we will snaffle the best player in the PSD without even blinking.

Seems pretty clear we aren't getting anything in the way of priority picks or other assistance. I was looking at the history of priority picks, it's funny a lot of the clubs who feature fairly prominently are also the clubs who's supporters like to constantly refer to North as a charity case that relies on the AFL and the other clubs to prop us up.

Richmond got a first round priority pick in 2004, that season they had 4 wins. They had 7 wins in each of 2002 and 2003 and bounced up to 10 wins in 2005, which isn't relevant to how PPs were handed out back then, but makes an interesting comparison to us now. They used that pick to draft Brett Deledio. In 2016 they traded Deledio to GWS for some 2017 future picks. They traded those picks with Brisbane for picks 20 and 25 in the 2017 draft, which they used to draft CCJ and Noah Balta. Interesting to see how long the benefits of PPs from that long ago trickle down.

Seeing how often we are currently hearing about the investment of pick 20 that Richmond put into CCJ and they have a self declared entitlement of return on that investment, it is quite interesting to be able to trace it back and see that they never would have had that pick 20 at all without the charity of the PP and without the disadvantage all other clubs had, shuffling down the draft to accommodate it.

That's a great post. Priority picks are a rip off. Our problem is that we have the perception of improvement, even though our w/l ratio is appalling over the last couple years

Both reasonable to retain if it came to that. Atley might be out of luck if other players come on as expected but wouldn't be the worst player to have as depth and a senior body in the VFL. Dumont is still easily best 22 in the right setup - will just depend on interest elsewhere IMO. If he's offered a 3 year deal on decent money elsewhere he should take it as irrespective of his capabilities I don't think he suits the Noble plan long term and we have a bunch of players coming on that we will want to give time in his role. If he's a defensive winger mainly now that's arguably something Jed can roll through whilst Scott and others keep developing. Realistically though Bailey Scott should be spending this off season putting on some size and working as a defensive winger / tagging style player that can hurt moving forward.

'Its going to be a future third-round pick on it's way from Port Adelaide to GWS for Jeremy Finlayson, we expect that to be done by deadline today.'
