For a few reasons I suppose.
1. List wise, Matty wasn't exactly a glaring need.
2. No way 2 late 1st picks will satisfy GC in trade
3. Losing Bing means they need a replacement young KPF
4. Any other player of ours that GC might want will be required at the Saints. We have little else to offer.

Nothing is for sure though. If I'm the GC list manager I'll be asking for Battle.
You say we didnt need Matty yet you say we would use him as part of the trade to get another forward , doesnt make much sense to me anyway i wouldn't be getting too excited about Bing coming to us , if i was him i would stay where he is and be his own man instead of being Max's brother with us

The first line literally says it’s their theory on what could happen lol
Well thanks for that , i did see that and i still wanted to know why he keeps thinking that its going to happen ,

My theory is that GC will simply not accept 2 late first round picks for Bing, and we have little else on the shelf to offer.
Matty Alison will be part of any trade offer to fill the Bing sized hole, and they will still take our 2 firsts for good measure.

Good progression for Matty with more money, and he can become the main man and get senior games, which won't happen with us.
GC will also be humming once the Red Jesus gets back on the park.

They only need an older KPF to hold the fort at that point, and that guy could be Tex whom they can trade for comfortably.

Having Battle and Bing that can swing between CHF and CHB would be just dandy, and I can't see the possibility that Bing's decision would rest on where we want him to play.
He either wants to come home and play at StKilda or he doesn't.
Red Jesus- Gold - very very funny

If it were solely based on heart he'd already be here and we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I'm sure he will weigh up his decision on a number of aspects including being able to play at the club he supported as a kid and with his brother, contract size and length, where he can better his career etc.
This is a question I have been throwing around in my head for a year now .Not to dissimilar to the 2014 draft with Petracca and Paddy where I couldnt make a decision .
‘I think it all comes down to one question to be answered by his parents.
Do I want my boys to play together, one outshine the other and see my team win a premiership ,or Do I want each grow individually to have a spectacular career as a forward.
As a parent I am saying the latter.

Whether they play in the same team or not, one will always be viewed as the better player.

If anything, playing in the same forward line would have them be seen as more of a duo who work together to be great than each being the number 1 forward in different teams where the direct comparison on output from the media would be more intense.

If you’ve ever been a parent of a teenager/ young person you’ll know that your opinion doesn’t necessarily count 😉

Were Bing not a twin to Max and a Stkilda fan, I would be with you on that.

In reality he has no professional reason to play at StKilda what-so-ever.
If he chooses to come it will be solely a matter of the heart, which is why I think he will be less fussy about position.

Since he has a junior history of playing CHB and CHF with Max, it will be his memories of those times which will form his feeling about it now.

Personally I think he would be gutted if he misses out on a StKilda premiership while Max holds the cup aloft.
Fear of missing out would be a huge driver...
good insights all round i think both sides of the coin...but as sure as eggs Saints will be aware of the inherent trap of only having eyes for Bing.....Max would have as good an idea as anyone and i bet he doesnt know for sure...Anyway if something pops up as good or better we go for it and leave the twin towers dream alone...

100%

If Josh Kelly wants out I want a chance at a flag dangling in front of him not us chasing a pipe dream if it's not doable

They are literally giving away free memberships this year.

Not sure if they are counted on the tally?

Collingfilth are too.

Every kid registered with the Yarra Junior Footy League (the biggest in the country) received an email this week with a free two game member offer.

Stand by for media reports of how ‘resilient’ pies supporters are with their ‘record’ membership despite the racism scandal (and fall down the ladder).

I think we're in a position now where we don't need to chase and over pay FA's.

I couldn't see Dodo accepting band 2 compo, so it's basically a guaranteed bidding war.

Merritt isn't a player we want to get stuck in that scenario with. I would consider it with Cripps for example, and maybe Fyfe a couple of years ago.

As with Crouch the acquisition of any FA needs to be %100 on our terms, which means he takes a bit under his market value to play at Stkilda with no catches or involvement from their former club.

Jelly might be that guy, might also not be.

I would like to see how our juniors go before breaking the bank too.
We have the time...
To me Cripps is overrated and because he’s big and inside gets noticed. He has terrible disposal and just isn’t that amazing compared to how he looked early in Gigi’s career. Merrett is a better player but much more outside.

How tall does our midfield have to be?

Crouch, Steele, Ross and Clark are all at least 6 foot 1 which is the same size as Martin (Richmond's tallest mid).

I just think we need quality mids, preferably that can play more tham one role.I don't think our height is a drama.
There's only one Melbourne midfield player who's an UFA this year - he's very tall and, if last year taught us anything at all, he's exactly the type of player we'll need in 2022.

With him in the side I'm looking at back to back to back!!!!

Are you trying to say, that he is Gawn?....

I bloody hope so. Repent your Demon sins Max and seek blessing from the Saints

Ryder and Marshall pairing got us into contention, a Gawn/Marshall pairing would put us right at the business end given the improvement we are seeing in our midfield.

I put getting a quality replacement for Ryder streets ahead in the "want" list than adding another run of the mill "good" midfielder.

I'm really not feeling it that we're going to be getting Bing any time in the near future.

His trade cost this year for instance while he's contracted would be prohibitive.

My mate's nephew reckons that heaps of young players want into the Gold Coast at the moment and player managers were calling them to try to get traded there. Said the club is supposed to be really great to be at and the hub life has lots of kids wanting the lifestyle up there. It doesn't sound like what it was like 5 years ago. I think it will be harder to raid them than people think.

Like anything, that lifestyle and less media attention that being on the Gold Coast brings will appeal to some players.

But others will want to be in a traditional football state and want the extra opportunities - whether thats media/financial/'old boys' connections - that being in Melbourne/SA/WA brings.

There's no way he could handle being the 2nd best Max at the club 😆

You’ve been drinking the Essendon Kool aid. They do this - they talk themselves up every summer and maybe it seeps in?

On the other hand they could have picked him simply because they rate his talent and potential. What if Matty turns out better than Bing?

Hub life yep that’ll last a good 1 to 2 years then what? Young guys need regular new bling in life. Easily bored low attention span.
