Colin Young was behind the Rory lobb move. That guy is a genius! Talks gws into giving lobb two more years and then turns around to freo and basically demands a trade.

No cherry on top?
If you like!:)

I have been saying all year....draft, draft, draft. Get our home grown players, or own heroes. If we were awash with draft picks....sure, go after a player/type we need.

But we aren't.

How did we not ask the question on this

Will Brodie is from Vic.
This would also free us up for our academy kids plus overs.

This is now a done deal. Gold Coast has traded pick 19, 61, 69 and Will Brodie to Fremantle for the Dockers' future second and fourth round picks.
Wish we done this

Dougal Howard the next to benefit from being mates with Jack Steele. Expect him to come back in ripping form. Both him and Steele taken the initiative to seek extra personal training with Logan Austin.

Yeah I agree that we might want a bit more back on a trade like that, I'm also a bit higher on him than most oppo fans would be I imagine. I'd love him as a replacement for Birchall across half-back for us

What about this:
I have come up with the following trade scenario using each club's current picks (allowing for Daicos and Darcy in the 1st round); and this year's ladder positions as the basis for draft pick points for next year.

St Kilda: Pick 11, 2022 2nd round, Battle

Brisbane: Pick 16, 2022 1st round, 2021 Picks 50 & 60
Points: StK - 1329 + 703 = 2032 + Battle. Bris - 1067 + 1161 + 273 + 146 = 2647. Diff: 2647 - 2032 = 615.
Rates Battle at about Pick 30, depending on where clubs finish. Gives us another FRP for Ben King next year and enough points for our NGAs this year; and gives Brisbane extra 2nd round points next year for Ashcroft!! There may be a bit of extra late future pick swapping, but the above is the guts of the deal.

Result for this year: Brisbane - 11, 20, 54, 76, 90 (+ Battle).
StK - 16, 50, 60, 62, 66, 67, 85. If picks 50 - 67 move up at least 5 spots that will give us 994 points (equivalent to pick 18) that will more than cover our NGAs.

Thoughts? Go easy on me people!!

Would love to know who they have pegged out for our first round pick.
There will be some interest in Lonnie from clubs , but they are hoping we de-list him so they can get him for nothing , which I doubt we do because we need depth.
As for Long and Battle I can't see them leaving because they would be on pretty good contracts anyway for what they are worth and they are more than comfortable at St Kilda and are most probably go all out next year to get a contract extension.

According to Barret, Brodie was apparently on $600k for the final year. A lot of $$$ for a bloke not in your best 22. Freo get an upgrade for taking Brodie’s contract
Do players renegotiate their contract when traded to a new club or are they bound to stay on the contract they signed at their previous club?

I wish the club drafted Zac Bailey, he’s the sort of player they need.... anyway, saints will make a trade with Hawthorn next week. Just wait.

Magpies are the mob I would out for , they could easily let go of a De Goey or Darcy Moore - who wants to be at a club that will be rebuilding for the next 4 or so years , there best part of there careers will be gone.

I like what you have done here.
Im not sure if we need to trade out a future 1st pick next year (2023 pick) to secure Bing. Either way i do like the opportunity to get 2 picks inside top 20.

From my understanding Bris are capped out on TTP. IMO, to trade a player with Bris we will need to cover at least a min 1 year salary.
In that case its 1yr salary + Battle is under contract, so that does add more value.

STK F2 = 703 (PLUS Battle and 1yr salary)
BRIS #16 = 1067 + #54 = 220 + #60 = 146 TOTAL = 1433

DIFFERENCE 1433 - 703 = 730 points, Places Battle at approx pick 26. (but under contract and having 1st year salary paid)

STK 11, 16, 54, 60, 62, 66, 67, 85.
If picks 50 - 67 move up at least 5 spots that will give us 920 points (equivalent to pick 20) that will more than cover our NGAs.

BRIS 20, 50, 66, 76, 90 + F2 + Battle + 1yr salary

be kind

Most of the time they are bound to that contract. BUT any contract can be reviewed, changed or terminated if it’s agreed upon by both parties.

IF ...
the Saints think season 2022 will be significantly better than 2021 without adding genuine star power in this Trade Period ...

THEN ...
they're delusional. Still time to get creative.

… Ok Barrett, so what is it we are supposed to do? Trade players in or develop what we already have? I thought our list was too ‘old’ and we should be hitting the draft?

We’ll be fine even if we don’t add any “genuine star power”, we nearly made finals after a horrendous year, and our kids will only develop more. Next year he’ll be saying, why are they going for Bing, he’s a genuine star but they need to hit the draft and just develop. Lazy take, as per usual.

I think our list definitely has the potential to be great without adding a star. The same was being said about Demons last pre season and we all know how that turned out

The biggest thing in football is belief

Get confidence back into Coffield, Clark, Gresham and Butler and there’s no reason we can’t be back to pushing for that top 4 spot.
