Schlensog seems to have really flopped late in the year. Skinner's knees are made of tissue paper but his talent seems there. I'd probably roll the dice on him. SANFL is a happy hunting ground for us and he seems to be able to play as a forward if we wanted to move some pieces around.
He died off very late in the year playing forward but he's had a great season.

Sounds likely the last game he played he was playing injured. Didn't play the following two games.

The previous he played Subiaco he had 19 touches and 12 marks.

The first half of the season playing CHB was terrific by all reports.

He even started very well when they first threw him forward, kicking a couple of bags.

I've got a couple of mates that follow South Freo very closely that think he's too good not to he on an AFL list.

noticed nathan freeman in an article yesterday

i was hoping we gave him another crack mid season just gone. I know it didnt work out when we took him last time from collingwood, but the guy can seriously play and if hes got over the injury side, which he appears to have done, would be a great addition to our midfield imo
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result

Yuck. This is our last chance and the first for ages to get a high end pick and we are down grading it into the left overs bin. Great for the idiots that are all in on Ben King but it will just mean that GC ask for the two firsts for 2022 and the 2023 first as well.....and we don't even have a second in either year.

To me that's almost the worst of all worlds. If the two NGAs go inside 20 we are left with 6 picks that won't get used.....and we pay them to have Battle.[/QUOTE]

Yep its asking for trouble going into 2022 with 2x 1sts.

GC will say thanks & chuck in 2023 too.

In fairness though, it does seem like he's overcome his injury issues. I think he was likely delisted because of his high likelihood of breaking down again and again.

I'm just glad he's able to play regular footy again. Seems like a good fella.

He's a good fella but that's got nothing to do with his football. Good fellas are for crime families not football clubs. He broke down consistently at two clubs over a long period of time. We tried to get him right for three seasons and it didn't work. I don't know what the infatuation is with him honestly.

Which would be fine if we got a bunch of other picks back that basically value it as 2 firsts. Plus, they'll be very late firsts.

There was some chatter on TR the other day about how the recruiters don't just look at round numbers but break down selections into groups within. Obviously, a pick between 6-10 is more valuable than 11-18 but they're still all first rounders.

Bing for 3 x picks between 15-18 is a steal. Get some future seconds or thirds back and it's highway robbery.

I think people are attracted to his resilience. In the few games he played for us he was reasonably good and he's shown at VFL that he's too good for VFL. Not saying he'll win a Brownlow but he's very good depth to have on a list. I'm confident his time in the AFL is gone but I hope he gets a lifeline somewhere.

Just for the sake of debate, who would consider;

Splitting pick 9 into two picks in the teens.

Taking one to the draft.

Seeing if Hawthorn would bite & send us Mitchell for the other one.

Add Tom Mitchell to the midfield, feeding Steeley & co.

Still get a top 20 midfield talent plus Windy & Mitchito (fingers crossed).

I undersand the reason the club has a hardon for Bing and is gearing up to have a huge crack this time next year, but it is hampering us this year with both picks and $$$.
It has basically forced our hand to hit the draft and that is not really such a bad thing, we will got something like a early second for Long or Battle so if we keep 9 (11) the best available mid, a second rounder for needs, and the two NGA kids.

We can still see whats about DFA, if we want to bolster our mid depth maybe Naish, and look at a key backman for depth, where? I have no idea.
I still want us to do whatever we can to get Brisbane's two firsts.

There is a huge chance we could still get a Sinn type with their first pick and then having the last pick of the first round provides us to many options, whether it's drafting someone who has slide or another team trading us a future pick because someone they love has slid.

A similar deal to the Jeremy Cameron deal... 3 mid-late firsts, with a few 2nd's back (basically 1 decent 1st & 2 downgrades).

I could live with that.

Edit; sorry keep hitting quote instead of reply. Need another coffee

He played 2 games, the first he picked up 19 touches and the second was 14 and a goal. He just isn't the player he was touted to be when he was drafted 10 years ago.

Trent Dumont as a free agent anyone?

At worst he replaces Dunstan as a depth mid but his best is pretty good.

Compares pretty well to a guy like Jones - https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy...2=16&type=A&pid1=3947&pid2=3932&fid1=C&fid2=C

I like Dumont. This season he had injury issues and struggled when he came back but started piecing together some good footy by the end of the season. Was a consistent player in previous seasons. Would not say no.

EDIT: FYI from AFL website.

FORMER NORTH VICE-CAPTAIN'S CAREER IN LIMBO
8:00am:
Former North Melbourne vice-captain Trent Dumont is still searching for a new club as the clock ticks down on the free agency period.

Dumont is an unrestricted free agent after joining the Kangaroos with pick No.30 in the 2013 NAB AFL Draft.

He was vice-captain last year and has played 113 matches for the Kangaroos including the final 14 this season after overcoming a long-running calf issue.

"He's got a lot of footy left in him, so he's someone we're definitely working on," player manager Robbie D'Orazio said on Continental Tyres AFL Trade Radio.

"David Noble and his team have a plan in place that they're working through at the moment and Trent probably wasn't part of that plan. He had a nice, honest chat to them at the end of the year and I think both parties were happy to explore.

"I think his best footy is in front of him. He's fighting fit and ready to go. He plays multiple positions, inside mid, great leadership as well."

I get the logic, but the recruiting team would have to have a pretty good idea of who we are going for and who may be available to make it worth it. And I mean, I wouldn’t put it past them to draft some gems in the late teens.

But, because we also have the NGA’s bordering early second round, we may err for taking our pick 11 and trying to grab a slider, or someone who may have a greater chance of becoming elite, and then having the NGA’s as the prospects. It’s a good draft to be in this position anyway. What I’m really hoping for is that we pull something off that no one’s even expecting, that just gives us a really good shot at the early-middle section of the first round. Not sure how, but again, wouldn’t put it past them.

IF
I like what you have done here.
Im not sure if we need to trade out a future 1st pick next year (2023 pick) to secure Bing. Either way i do like the opportunity to get 2 picks inside top 20.

From my understanding Bris are capped out on TTP. IMO, to trade a player with Bris we will need to cover at least a min 1 year salary.
In that case its 1yr salary + Battle is under contract, so that does add more value.

STK F2 = 703 (PLUS Battle and 1yr salary)
BRIS #16 = 1067 + #54 = 220 + #60 = 146 TOTAL = 1433

DIFFERENCE 1433 - 703 = 730 points, Places Battle at approx pick 26. (but under contract and having 1st year salary paid)

STK 11, 16, 54, 60, 62, 66, 67, 85.
If picks 50 - 67 move up at least 5 spots that will give us 920 points (equivalent to pick 20) that will more than cover our NGAs.

BRIS 20, 50, 66, 76, 90 + F2 + Battle + 1yr salary

be kind

As it stands we can't really trade our future second. It will be eaten up if we manage to get the 2 NGA's.
If we traded it, our future first will turn into a future second.

Even by bringing in those couple of later picks, we would likely turn one of the 2021 first round picks into a second rounder.

A big step from VFL to AFL, but when he was delisted his body seemed OK and he got a couple of senior games, and I would take a risk give him a year. A bit like Dunstan with better and sharper disposal. Any player who has strong desire to play at top level is a bonus.

I may be wrong but he seems a similar player to Dunston doesn’t he? Would seem strange to tell Dunston he’s on the outer and then to go and pick up Dumont.

IF ...
the Saints think season 2022 will be significantly better than 2021 without adding genuine star power in this Trade Period ...

THEN ...
they're delusional. Still time to get creative.

… Ok Barrett, so what is it we are supposed to do? Trade players in or develop what we already have? I thought our list was too ‘old’ and we should be hitting the draft?

We’ll be fine even if we don’t add any “genuine star power”, we nearly made finals after a horrendous year, and our kids will only develop more. Next year he’ll be saying, why are they going for Bing, he’s a genuine star but they need to hit the draft and just develop. Lazy take, as per usual.
Plus a horrendous draw, didn't we have the worst draw in the comp?

Its a no from me.

Mitchell will he 29 next year and is another one paced mid so I'm not sure he improves that much.

I'd be wanting to use both those picks at the draft if we split.
